The EYFS Newsletter Issue 6 Date: 12.11.15 Keeping you...In the Loop! This week’s learning What a fun week! The children are really taking off in their reading which Mrs Beard and I are really pleased about. We are really trying to focus on the children segmenting words up, even in every day chit-chat with their friends. I will often stop the children if I hear them say a word, for example ‘pen’ and will ask them to sound it out for me. By this, I mean them breaking the word up, so they say ‘p-e- n’ (using the pure sounds). This will really help them progress through the segmenting and blending process which is so vital in the early stages of reading so if you can help us too then that would be great! Please also encourage this when hearing your child read. Model it first so they can see you do it, then let them have a go. Soon enough they should be able to do this on their own. When the children come back to school next week we will add new sounds to the sound fans and new keywords, so if your child’s sound fan goes missing you know we have them! The children spent a lot of time this week practising for their first Family Assembly and I’m sure you’ll all agree that they were BRILLIANT! I was very proud of all of them. Next week see’s the launch of our new school initiative KiVa so there will be lots of workshops going on throughout the week. You should have a letter about it explaining it in more detail. We will also be starting our school Nativity soon, yikes! It’s called ‘Hey Ewe’ and looks like it’s going to be a corker of a play. Messages Please check your child’s book bag on a daily basis. Thank you! Remember to fill out PROUD CLOUDS for those special moments! Blank copies are in the office. Please can you write in your child’s planner when you have heard them read and a little comment as to how they got on otherwise I’m not sure if they have been read, Thanks! Please also read the school’s newsletter downloadable from the websitehttp://www.havannah.cheshire.sch.uk/ Picture of the Week... Please can you practise forming numbers with your child either on the sheet or in chalk on the floor outside or in the air. However you please! Keeping you...In the Loop! This week’s learning

What a fun week! The children are really taking off in their reading which Mrs Beard and I are really pleased about. We are really trying to focus on the children segmenting words up, even in every day chit-chat with their friends. I will often stop the children if I hear them say a word, for example ‘pen’ and will ask them to sound it out for me. By this, I mean them breaking the word up, so they say ‘p-e-n’ (using the pure sounds).
