Forsyth County Schools will hold a Bond for Schools referendum on Tuesday, March 20, 2014. The Bond for Schools is an opportunity for Forsyth County voters to address four areas:

Improvements to existing schools School safety Technology Growth (includes a list of proposed projects for middle and high schools)

Forsyth County Schools is home to 40,821 students in 35 schools. As the third fastest growing school district in the nation, Forsyth County Schools adds 1,700 new students a year. This year Forsyth County Schools moved from the ninth to the seventh largest school district in Georgia, surpassing both Henry and Cherokee county schools.

Given the fiscal challenges residents faced during the recession, the district has not held a bond referendum since 2007 to generate funding for capital improvements. Therefore, Forsyth County Schools spent a year building a new Strategic Plan and an additional year completing a Facilities Plan, to identify the current and future needs of students and staff.

If the Bond for Schools is approved, funds would be available fall, 2014 and work would begin on proposed projects at existing schools continuing until 2018. The financing for this bond is structured to not increase the bond debt millage rate as long as SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) is extended by voters. If the Bond for Schools is not approved by voters the proposed projects may not be completed.

Information concerning the Bond is located at www.forsyth.k12.ga.us/bond. I encourage you to review this site, including the video and the Bond flyer. The last day to register to vote is April 21. Click here for registration information. Advance voting is on select days from April 28 to May 20. For dates, times and locations, click here.

“Kickin’ it Old School” Field Day Parent Volunteer Form

Summer is just around the corner and our annual Field Day is only two weeks away. There is much work behind the scenes, but Field Day would not be possible without the help of our parents. Please, please, please consider volunteering to manage a station on Field Day. We are seeking parent volunteers to help run the “stations” as students rotate through them. You have the option of volunteering to work with our K – 2 students, 3 – 5 students, or be a superstar and work with both age groups!!!! If you volunteer your time to help, detailed information, along with your station assignment, will be e-mailed or sent home with your child by Thursday, May 8th.

Our “Kicking it Old School” Field Day will take place on Friday, May 9th. Kindergarten, first grade, second grade, Ms. Lee and Mrs. Courtney’s class and Pre-K will participate in Field Day activities from 9 – 11 a.m. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students will participate in field day activities from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

Last but not least, there will be two “re-fueling” stations for our students. One station will serve water bottles with goldfish crackers and the other will serve pop ice. If you are able to help with these items, please send in at your convenience, preferably several days before field day. You are welcome to drop these items off in the front office or send to the gym with your child.
