Excellence in academics is the hallmark of any good institution and the students of class 10 & 12 brought laurels for the school by achieving 100% results at the recently conducted CBSE Board Examination in March 2018. A felicitation ceremony was held on 30 th June 2018, on the school campus to honor these meritorious students for their praise worthy performance. The programme commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp to invoke divine blessings. The Principal, Mrs. Joble Bijoy in her welcome speech, expressed her joy at the spectacular results of class 10&12. Exhorting the students to carry on with their pursuit of excellence, she congratulated the meritorious students. Speaking on the occasion, the President of Vidya Vikas Mandal, Mrs. Sheela Gaunekar congratulated the toppers and urged them to always remember the values they have ingrained at the Academy which will help them etch a life embellished with success. The Chairman and Manager Mr. Nitin Kunkolienker addressed the gathering and expressed his vision of seeing VVA in the stellar list of top 50 school of India. The Guest Speaker for the day Mr. Sushil Tripathi encouraged the toppers through his motivational speech by encouraging the students to set goals in life and work hard to achieve them. The toppers were felicitated with a merit certificate and a trophy. The ceremony was witnessed by the proud parents and teachers of the honored students. After the formal felicitation program, students expressed their gratitude towards the management, the principal, teaching and non- teaching staff for playing a vital role in their success story. The parents spoke highly about the dedicated approach of Vidya Vikas Academy towards achieving excellence. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Vice-Principal, Mrs. Tania Monteiro.

TOPPERS FELICITATION AT VIDYA VIKAS ACADEMY

Vidya Vikas Academy has always believed in commending the students to inspire them to scale greater heights. Excellence in academics is the hallmark of any good institution and the students of class 10 & 12 brought laurels for the school by achieving 100% results at the recently conducted CBSE Board Examination in March 2018. A felicitation ceremony was held on 30th June 2018, on the school campus to honor these meritorious students for their praise worthy performance. The programme commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp to invoke divine blessings. The Principal, Mrs. Joble Bijoy in her welcome speech, expressed her joy at the spectacular results of class 10&12. Exhorting the students to carry on with their pursuit of excellence, she congratulated the meritorious students. NO SCHOOL BAG DAY – JUNE MONTH

“No Schoolbag Day” was held on the 29th June 2018. Since WorldnEnvironment Day is observed this month, the colour selected for this day was Green. All students came dressed in beautiful shades of green. All activities conducted were related to environment. The activities included nature hunt, cooking activities like sandwich making, salad making etc, art and craft work like collage, poster making, leaf printing, making bookmarks etc, extempore were successfully conducted. The final round of the quiz (activity of the month) was also conducted class wise in the school hall. A mock test for the Achiever’s Exam that will be held in the month of October 2018 and March 2019 was also conducted to prepare the students for the same. The students had a fun filled day and are looking forward to the next “No Schoolbag Day” which is scheduled on the 20th July 2018. Co-ordinator Tr. Michelle Mascarenhas

ACTIVITY OF THE MONTH – POSTER MAKING – ANTI CHILD LABOUR

The activity for the month of June for classes 9 and 10 was to prepare posters on the theme- Anti Child Labour. The students made charts individually as well as a team. The posters depicted the anti child campaign especially in areas which cause health problems and mortality at an early age. They also made charts depicting construction sites, cleaning of vehicles by children and portrayed the ill effects as these children cannot attend school and do not enjoy their childhood. SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY – SPECIAL ASSEMBLY

Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated it’s 24th anniversary on 2nd July 2018. A Special Assembly was conducted by the students of class 4C to commemorate this day. The assembly was held in the school hall. The Principal, Vice-Principal, Staff and the students of classes 4 and 5 were present to celebrate the event. There was a special prayer service by Jaden Fernandes invoking God’s blessings, followed by a ‘Thought for the Day’ given by Sheena Cardozo. Later Ishika Naik recited a poem on “My School Promise”. The students of class 7A performed an Indian Classical Dance on ‘Tishra Allaripu’. Heramb, Neomi, Erika and Atharv told the audience ‘What they like about VVA’ with the help of charts. The assembly concluded with the School Anthem song by the students who were trained by Tr. Vanessa. CELEBRATION OF SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY

A special assembly was held by the pre-primary children on monday ,2nd July 2018 to Celebrate the 24th School anniversary . A prayer service was held to thank God for all his blessings on our School. Principal Mrs. Joble Bijoy addressed the students on the occasion . Tr. Hilda spoke briefly on the inception of the school and the importance of education.

The children joyfully sang the school anniversary song.The assembly concluded with a dance performance by the Sr.kg and Jr.kg children. Co-ordinator Hilda Barbosa

WORLD POPULATION DAY

World Population Day is an annual event observed on July 11 every year, which seeks to raise awareness of global population issues. The event was established by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme in 1989. The Theme for 2018 is ” Family Planning is a Human Right”. A Special Assembly was conducted by the students of Class 6. The students emphasized and explained the meaning of World Population Day through their speech and poem, which related to Family Planning. Posters and slogans were prepared to spread awareness about the consequences of growing population. Some posters also depicted the causes, effects and statistics of growing population in the world. INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY CELEBRATION 2018-19

On the 21st of June, 2018, VVM’s Vidya Vikas Academy observed International Yoga Day. It was an exciting and memorable day in the school. The event was two hours long and took place in the School Hall. Many students and teachers took part in observing this day. Thecelebration begun by the traditional lighting of the lamp by our Chief Guest, YogaGuru- Mr. Rama Naik, Vice Principal, Mrs. Tania Monteiro, Physical Educator, Mrs. Sonia Naik and Sports Director and Yoga Instructor, Mr. Omanakuttan G. The Vice Principal Mrs. Tania Monteiro addressed the gathering on the need to practice Yoga daily. Our Chief Guest, Mr. Rama Naik was then called upon to recite the Prarthana. Bouquets were presented to Mr. Naik, Mr.Omanakuttan G and Mrs. Monteiro by the NCC students.Mr. Rama Naik instructed the students and teachers on different Yoga positions and how they can benefit ones lifestyle. The gathering followed his instructions and, under his guidance and the guidance of Mr. Kuttan G ,mirrored the positions. The Chief Guest praised the students and teachers for their efforts and inspired them to practice Yoga. After a very helpful demonstration by Mr. Naik, Mrs. Archana Verma proposed the vote of thanks to conclude the event. ELECTIONS FOR VVA SCHOOL OFFICIALS (2018-19)

Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao conducted its annual elections for school official for the year 2018 – 2019 in the month of June. The nominated candidates for the posts of School Captains and House Captains from different houses gave their speeches and campaigned on 15th June, 2018 displaying their symbols in the presence of teachers and students of Class 8 to 10. The elections for school officials were held on 22nd June, 2018 for the academic year 2018 – 2019. Students of classes 8 to 10 voted in the school hall in the presence of election staff on duty. The entire process of the Election Code of Conduct was followed to give the students an experience of the Voting Process in a democratic setup. The counting of votes was also held on the following day, 23rd June, 2018 in the presence of candidates. The counting was done by the staff on duty in the Audio Visual Room 2. The results are as follows: School Captains : Keegan Barreto and Nadia Da Silva Assistant School Captains : Vaughan D’Souza and Annalie Rodrigues Red House Captains : Melrich Moraes and Anya Gonsalves Blue House Captains : Vaibhav Prabhudessai and Saakshi Shah . Green House Captains : Atharv Hede and Anvi Dessai. Yellow House Captains : Schaden Da Gama and Tiya Naik. The Investiture Ceremony was scheduled on 14th July, 2018 at 8:30 am in VVA School hall. The ceremony commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp followed by a prayer dance by students of class 8. The parents of the Head Boy, Head Girl and house captains witnessed the oath ceremony. The newly elected school representatives were administered the oath by Principal Mrs. Joble Bijoy. The school officials sang a song “Thy Word” as a sign of acknowledgement of the responsibility that lies ahead. Yolan Fernandes and Jelsh D’Costa of Class 10 were the comperes. NO SCHOOL BAG DAY – JULY MONTH

‘No School Bag Day’ was held on the 20th July 2018. ‘Life is like the ocean. It can be calm and still, and rough or rigid but in the end it is always beautiful.’ The theme for this day was ‘Aqua Love.’ Teachers and students came dressed in blue attire. The activity of the month ‘Wealth Out of Waste’ was conducted in the respective classes. All activities conducted were related to the ocean. The activities included art and craft work like collage, finger printing, poster making, etc, clay moulding, puzzle, extempore and the quiz was related to the ocean. A mock test was also conducted to prepare the students for the Achiever’s Exam that will be held in the month of October 2018 and March 2019. PHONIC READING FOR NURSERY PARENTS

A ‘Phonic Reading Session was held for the parents of the Nursery, new admitted students of Jr.Kg and Sr.Kg on 30th June, 2018 in the school hall from 9:00 am- 10:00 am. The School Counsellor , Mrs. Wilma Alphonso, spoke to the parents on ‘ Parenting their Children’. The Pre-primary teachers explained to the parents about the phonic sounds and vocabulary related to it. Formation of writing of letters was also discussed. Parents were also informed that the story books will be sent home every week, for the parents to read out to the children to inculcate the habit of reading in children. 24TH SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY

VVA, completed its glorious 24 years of illuminating young minds on

2nd July 2018 and to commemorate this day of paramount importance the students of class 11 conducted a special assembly. The assembly began with a prayer service dedicated for the well being of the members of the management, principal, staff and students of the institution. The students read out the vision and mission of the School. The assembly was concluded by singing of the school anthem .

WORLD FORGIVENESS DAY

July 7th is observed as “World Forgiveness Day” all over the world. This day is a day to forgive and to be forgiven. To commemorate this day of deep significance, students of class 11 organized a special assembly on

9th July 2018. Meaningful thoughts and quotes were read out and a motivational video on forgiveness was also screened.

The assembly was concluded by participating in an ancient Hawaiian

forgiveness practice called Ho’oponopono, which is saying a very simple prayer consisting of the words “I’m sorry, please forgive me, I thank you.” Co-ordinator Sir Agnelo D’souza

IRIS WORKSHOP

IRIS (Initiative for Research in Innovation and Science) workshops are

conducted across the country to provide the young students with a platform to harness their scientific skills and bring their innovative research based projects to limelight in the field of science.

On 13th July 2018, the students of class 11 and 12 attended a seminar where the students were informed about the components of an IRIS cycle. The presentation was accompanied by a video which helped the students to understand how science can be used to solve various

environmental as well as day today problems.

A planner was also shown regarding the different levels of the competition held in each month along with the procedure for registration. It was an encouraging and an informative session. Co-ordinator Tr. Shaheena Basha

STUDENT COUNCIL ELECTIONS AND INVESTITURE CEREMONY

The elections of the students’ council, for the academic year 2018-2019 were held in the first week of July. The nominated candidates delivered their election speeches on 5th while the elections took place on 6th of July 2018. The council consists of 15 members who were duly elected by the students of Class 11 & 12 and the staff of the Senior Secondary. The General Secretary (boy & girl) were elected by the school election committee. The installation of the Student Council took place on 14th July 2018. The parents of the newly elected student council members were

invited for the same. The solemn ceremony presided with the lighting of the traditional lamp. Principal, Mrs. Joble Bijoy administered the oath of office and also pinned the badges on each council member so as to instill in the newly elected school leaders a sense of duty and pride. VVA STUDENTS EXCEL AT ENSEMBLE 1.0

The Department of Computer Applications of Rosary College of

Arts & Commerce, Navelim hosted its very 1st edition of Ensemble (1.0) on 21st July 2018. It was a technical event aimed at creating awareness about the latest trends in Information Communication Technology (ICT). Senior Secondary students of Class 12 (A) represented Vidya Vikas Academy for the event with great thrill and enthusiasm.

The one day event consisted of a Quiz, Photography, Sketching

and Gaming competitions.Elritz Gonsalves and Jay Shinde triumphantly won the 1st Place in LOGIKA (Quiz) by giving a tough competition to the other participants.
