Key Summary of the Story

Story began with a guy named John who is currently studying architecture at university but his grade doesn’t fulfil the minimum requirement of the department and he might have to drop the studies halfway. John’s mother received John’s academic result and she was very angry about it. And so, he started to change his attitude and everything went very fine and at the end, he got the confirmation by the tutor.

1st Concept. Safety and Security

• as finding safe circumstances, shelter, satiability, and protection

• They may also include a need for structure and order.

When John study the more, he will feel more safety as well as he will know his future will going to be very clarify.

2nd Concept. Extrinsic Motivation. • when we take a certain action in

response to external pressure or obligation.

• be done to avoid punishment or earn a specific reward.

John’s grade is on the cliff of the satisfaction of the department which his grade doesn’t fulfil the minimum requirement. John will take action as to avoid the punishment (retake or drop the course).

3rd Concept. Fear Based Appeal Persuasion

• Negative valence that is elicited by a message designed to prevent a specific action.

• It is the most effective when trying to prevent a negative outcome.

John’s mum was so angry with John about his stubbornness and she afraid that John might retake his course or not going to study anymore so she scolded him and be very rude to him.

4th Concept. Stereotyping

• a general belief about a group of people it differs from prejudice in that it can have positive or negative connotations.

• It runs the risk of becoming prejudicial and leading to discrimination.

John’s mum insulted John as if he didn’t get at least a degree certificate, he won’t be able to get a proper job and be successful in life.

5th Concept. Self-Esteem

• one’s evaluation of one’s self-worth. • It involves both your physical and

psychological attributes.

John started to think about his life, and he started to change his study attitude, and he get to know more knowledge about architecture. When he presented his project in front of his tutor, his tutor liked it very much.
