    Overview of Menu Driver

Menu Driver is a SunGard Public Sector application that allows you to control who usesapplications, menus, functions, and subfunctions. Only the system administrator should beauthorized to everything. You can use Menu Driver to set up and maintain users, user groups, functions, subfunctions, and menus. You give user groups authority to work with features andfunctions of software applications.

You can also use Menu Driver to customize menus by setting up your own menu and addingexisting menus as menu options. SunGard Public Sector also creates menus and functions andsends them with each update of the software applications. You can copy any of these menus andmodify them as a user menu.

The four components of Menu Driver are:

Applications - A SunGard Public Sector software program, such Cash Receipts orBuilding Permits.

Menus - Each application has a set of system menus that SunGard Public Sector sendswith the application. These system menus access the standard functions for theapplication you are using.

Functions - A function may be a standard or even a mandatory use of the softwareapplication. Functions include SunGard Public Sector software menu options that allowyou to perform actions necessary to the basic use of the software application.

Subfunctions - Subfunctions are functions that perform operations on other functions. For example, you use the Add subfunction to add the File Maintenance Menu to your

main menu. You use the Delete subfunction to remove the Meter Functions Menufrom the main menu. Subfunctions also provide additional application security.

    The HT (HTEGPL) application

Menu Driver uses an application called HTEGPL to control basic functions such as:

    Menus and functions

    Function keys

    The "program selection" feature

You also use the HTEGPL application to control the use of menu screens and access to thecommand line.

Menu Driver is different from other SunGard Public Sector applications because it allows systemadministrators to access menus for all SunGard Public Sector software applications.

Overview of Menu Driver Menu Driver

    6 SunGard Public Sector

    Overview of program selection

Menu Driver has a feature called "program selection," which allows access to all authorizedfunctions and programs across all applications. This saves time by allowing access to differentfunctions at the same time.

Functions are menu options you use to accomplish tasks. You can use the "program selection"feature to select functions you want to work with. The "program selection" feature creates a listof functions you select during your work session. You can keep several functions open as youwork to create a "multi-tasking" environment.

The "program selection" feature allows you to:

Select new functions that are added to your list of open functions

Return to functions you already used during your current work session

SunGard Public Sector defines functions that arrive with the software application. Yourorganization can also define custom functions. You use these functions during work sessions toperform software tasks.

By creating a list of functions for your work session, you can move easily from one function toanother. You do not have to select or type the function you want to work with. You just selectthe function from your list.

When you finish work with each function, you can add it to your function list for use later inyour work session. Once you add a function to your list, you can easily return to it by selecting itwith the "program selection" feature.

To select a function, you can:

Type the function you want to work with

Choose the function from the list of functions already used during your work session

Choose the function from a list

When you type the function you want to work with, you specify the software application and thefunction. You can type the software application or select it. You can type all or part of thefunction name. If you type the entire function name, the system retrieves the function you wantto work with. If you type a partial function name, the system retrieves the function or displays alist of functions starting with the letters you typed. You can select the function you want fromthis list.

If the function you want is not on your list of previously used functions or you do not know theexact function name, you can select it. First, you specify the software application to which thefunction belongs. When you use the Prompt function, the system displays a list of functions for

the software application you specified. You can select the function from this list.

Example: You want to print an Actual Costs Report in the Fleet Management (FM)software application. You clickShortcut or press Escape orAttention to display theProgram Selection window. You type FM in the Application field. The cursorautomatically moves to the Function field. You use the Prompt function. The softwareapplication displays a list of all available FM functions. You select Actual Costs Reportfrom the list, and the software application retrieves the function for you to work with.

When you select a new function, the previous function is added to your list. You can selectpreviously used functions later in your work session. If you do, the system returns you to whereyou were in the function before you clicked Shortcut or pressed Escape orAttention.

If you select Cancel when the Program Selection window displays, the system returns you to thecommand you used most recently.

    Starting Menu Driver (Select only)

You can access Menu Driver using one of three commands or the user initial program.

    Commands

    HTEMNU HT *SELECT

Use this command to begin working with Menu Driver and go directly to otherapplications and menus. The *USER parameter determines which menu displays whenyou use this command.

    HTEMNU XX *SELECT

Replace "XX" in the above command with the two-letter application designator todisplay the selection of menus for that application. For example, if you want to displayPayroll/Personnel menus, you type HTEMNU PR *SELECT, since PR is the two-lettercode for Payroll/Personnel.

    HTEMNU XX *FIRST

Replace "XX" in the above command with the two-letter application designator of theapplication you want to display the main menu for. For example, if you want to displaythe main menu for Customer Information System, you type HTEMNU CX *FIRST,since CX is the application designator for Customer Information System.

    User initial program

The user initial program is a SunGard Public Sector program that is embedded within theSystem i5 user profile. You use this program to set up the menu that displays for each user whenthe user signs on to the System i5. This allows the user to access Menu Driver without typingany commands.

You set up the initial application and the initial menu when you set up user information withinSunGard Public Sector software. You can select any SunGard Public Sector application or menu.

    Overview of software security

    This topic contains information about:

    Levels of security

    Security officer (QSECOFR)

    QHTE

    System administrator

    Application administrator

    Application users

Levels of securitySoftware security should be the responsibility of a select few within your organization. Thosewho set up software security need the authority to work with the following functions:

Application security - Authority to work with the "application security" features allowsyou to:

o Set up functions and subfunctions for the software applicationo Set up menus and menu optionso Create and authorize user groups and individual users to functions and subfunctionso Create and authorize user groups and individual users to menus and menu optionsApplication security - Users - You use this function to set up authority for individualusers

Application security - Groups - You use this function to set up groups of users whomyou want to have the same authority

Every software application has the functions listed above for setting up security.

The security you set up determines who can use menus, menu options, functions, andsubfunctions. You give user groups and individual users authority to work with features andfunctions of software applications. You can also deny authority to user groups and individualusers.

Note: The system administrator should be authorized to all applications, all functions, all

menus, and all subfunctions. No one else should have full authority to the softwareapplications. The system administrator should also have *SECOFR authority in his or herSystem i5 user profile.

SunGard Public Sector recommends that you set up the following levels of security:

    Appendix B Test Environments

    Overview of test environments

A test environment is a series of duplicated data and program libraries. You cannot share files orprograms between production and test environments. A test environment is usually set up to testtwo different releases of software or release updates for an existing release. The test environmentrequires a separate configuration for both the NaviLine server and the System i5 monitor. TheNaviLine test server may be configured on the same server or on a separate server that isincluded in the network. The NaviLine test monitor and libraries may reside on the sameSystem i5 with the production environment but have different monitor configurations anddifferent library names.

ConsiderationsDisk space - Test libraries take up as much disk space as the production libraries. Planon using double the amount of disk space currently being used for production beforecreating the test libraries.

Support for test environments - Since SunGard Public Sector does not consider a testenvironment required for installing software, there are additional charges associatedwith setting up and supporting this environment. SunGard Public Sector provides theprograms and documentation needed to use a test environment with the SunGard PublicSector application software. Additional support or setup assistance is billable throughthe System i5 Technical Support Group.

Refresh of test environment libraries - SunGard Public Sector does not provide aprogram to copy data from production libraries to test libraries. If you want a datarefresh, the libraries must be deleted and then restored from a recent backup.

User profiles - The user profiles set up in production at the time of the data restore areused. Any changes or additions to user profiles in the production environment must alsobe added or changed in the test environment.

Loading software to the test environment - If you load SunGard Public Sector softwareusing Implementer-Receiver, each application that is included in the test environment, including the HT application, must be set up as a test environment within Implementer-Receiver. The NaviLine test server must be updated at the same time the System i5

software is updated. For instructions about setting up the test environment withinImplementer-Receiver, please contact Distribution Services.
