14 VERONA SENIOR CENTER
Hello! My name is Stephanie Ehle and I’m
excited to join the Verona Senior Center as
the new Director and eager to meet
everyone!

As a Madison native, I have worked in the
health and well-being management field for
over 12 years, most of which has been in the
non-profit sector. I enjoy helping individuals
improve their quality of life through
awareness, education and motivation.

Outside of work I enjoy spending time with
my family. My husband, Eric and I have two
beautiful children and we love to spend time
outside exploring Wisconsin and getting dirty!
Stephanie
This month I want to focus on our
Parkinson’s Group here at the Verona
Senior Center. We meet the third Thursday
of every month. I am the facilitator and am
open to all ideas and speakers dealing with
Parkinson’s.
At the end of August, the American
Parkinson’s Disease Association had a walk
titled the “Optimism Walk”. I was a
participant and had the opportunity to meet
so many wonderful and courageous people.
It was at Warner Park with free corn on the
cob, beans, brats, and a lovely day in
Wisconsin.
According to the Wisconsin Executive
Director, Rachel Wilberding, there were 210
“walkers” and more than $24,000 was raised.
I personally want to thank those of you who
donated for my walk.
Some of our own Verona group also
participated in an “Art Program” recently,
with emphasis on finger dexterity and voice
control.
We had the honor of Rachel attending our
last meeting giving us updates for Wisconsin
including financial assistance available to the
Wisconsin Parkinson’s population.
We have an upcoming Wisconsin Parkinson’s
Symposium this month at the Madison
Marriott West, Middleton. I will attend along
with some of our members.
Nurse Barabra (Please see pg. 6 for pictures!)
Because of you, we are free. Thank

Nov. 12 WHAT LIES IN THE FUTURE?
More than 2 and 1/2 years ago Man Talk was formed at
the Senior Center, meeting twice a month for
conversation. Local concerns drifted into book
reviews. Soon presenters were invited. Then women
were included. Tours became regular events.
Participation increased to a regular 12 to 16. Now we
will have Tom Bauer lead us in a discussion on where
we go from here. The Participatory Learning And
Teaching Organization (PLATO), a U-W Madison
extension program of education, will have
representatives joining in the conversation. Join us as
we look ahead.

Over the years, we've dove deep into many Ve-
rona history topics. These have ranged from our
early settlers, lost rural schools, the history of
our churches and businesses, our original Native
America residents, and even a leper colony. We
have gathered photos, stories, interviews, and a
handful of artifacts along the way. While Verona
has a rich history, one thing it doesn't have is a
place dedicated to showing it off!
In September our officers and members began
seriously investigating and planning what it would
take to rennovate a small historic downtown
Verona home into a history center. We've en-
listed the help of several contractors, an archi-
tect, and other local experts for guidance and
advice.
We'd like to present the current status of this
project to our membership and anyone else in-
terested in the topic. The goals of this meeting
would be as follows:
1. Talk about the home being looked at and give
a status update on the work being done to eval-
uate its potential.
2. Hear feedback on what functions a Verona
history center should serve.
3. Get ideas for fundraising strategies, and vol-
unteers to help with that effort.
We would love to hear your ideas on what a
Verona history center might look like!
