Generators

In this application, the VECTOPOWER converts theAC voltage with a variable frequency and voltagelevel to a regulated DC voltage to supply an interme-diate circuit.Here, the VECTOPOWER takes energy from a gener-ator and then feeds it to a DC circuit. From there itcontinues in the direction of a battery or mains.

ChallengesTurbines and high-frequency applications

Electrical machines for high rotational speedshave an especially small design for a particularoutput. This is especially true of high-speed rotors.However, this not only saves expensive materials,construction volume, and weight; it also presents aspecial challenge for the inverter.The turbulent flows induced by the inverter createheat in the rotor. High-speed machines, however,have a smaller rotor with the same power and thusless area over which it can emit excess heat. Heatdissipation is much easier when the motor lossesare lower.

The other challenges are the speeds themselves andthe related high frequencies.

For highspeed applications such as turbines withrotational speeds up to over 150,000 rpm.

Areas of applicationHighspeed drives are increasingly being used,e.g., as:

Development toolsThe inverters of the VECTOPOWER series alreadyhave numerous software functions in their basicversion. These can be called up via CAN bus from ahigher-level master or drive control.

For more complex applications, special softwarefunctions are often required in the inverter.VECTOPOWER therefore offers various options thatare oriented to the requirements.Our development environments VECTOSTUDIO (forhigher-level controls) and VECTONUM EMBEDDED(for integrated microprocessors) are comprehensivedevelopment systems for software functions, whosehandling only differs in the type of target processor,with a few exceptions.

Programming can be done under IEC 61131-3, in C++, and various script languages.Important tools for parameterization and diagnosis,such as, e.g., the ANALYSER, are integrated in thedevelopment tools. The ANALYSER makes it mucheasier to optimize the drives, since the course of allvariables can be visualized.
