Note From the Director

Last year capped a very exciting first year for Vanguard

Business School. We were thrilled to welcome our first batch

and guide them on their journey towards becoming frontline

managers. This newsletter gives all our readers a glimpse of

what our first year was like. As we are poised to welcome the

second batch of students at Vanguard, I congratulate the

editorial board at the timeliness of this initiative and hope that

this effort succeeds in sharing our joy and enthusiasm with

you.

ARKS Srinivas

- Director

Message From The Editorial Team

It gives us immense pleasure to bring out the very first

edition of Vanguard’s Newsletter “Vantage Point”. Vantage

Point refers to a position that provides a broad view or

perspective. In wars, as in business, securing a good vantage

point provides a moment to regroup, review and replan

efforts towards the goal.

For the first batch of VBS, we feel that this is exactly the

place where we have arrived at the end of the first year. As

we stand poised to welcome the second batch on campus ,we

are proud to bring out this newsletter which gives an account

of all we have achieved in the last year.

We hope you enjoy reading this newsletter as much as we

enjoyed putting it together for you.

Sports is the most loved form of recreation at

VBS. At VBS we have some of the best Table

Tennis enthusiasts. Two of them are Avinash

Ranbaore and Saam Ajay. Both of them are tennis

freaks and refuse to budge an inch when it comes

to competition. As expected they met at the final

round of the table tennis competition. It was a

clash of the “Titans”. The match started at 10 am

in the morning and the five set of the match

lasted for about forty five minutes. Neither left no

stone unturned, both tried to outdo the other, but

in the end Avinash won the game with three

closely contested sets to NIL (3-0).

Best Student Activity

It was a great experience and opportunity

for the whole batch when we were taken for

a outward bound training at Pegasus Institute

for Excellence in Bangalore under the

guidance of KK Sir, Ajay Sir and Ashish Sir.

It is one of the premier institutes in India

offering comprehensive outward bound

management training and organizational

development services. It was a two day

workshop at Pegasus. We learnt a lot from

the team building lessons at the workshop

and we also enjoyed the camp fire at the

night. This training helped us come together

as a batch. The bonding among our batch

mates was even more strong than before .We

could understand each other better and this

training changed the relationships among our

batch mates for good. We were excited to

sleep in tents in the nights, which added to

the fun and joy for all of us.

Life at VBS

The journey of my first year of MBA trails down to a

memorable yet arduous experience I have had. As I look

down the memory lane, my faculty and campus life

come first on the list. Every faculty taught me not only

their subjects but also certain unique qualities that an

MBA should possess. The entire faculty team taught me

hardwork, dedication, honesty and above all, humility. I

was quite taken aback when every Professor gave us

personal attention towards all of us , and encouraged us

to seek their help whenever needed. While it may sound

clichéd to say this, the fact remains that they were

extremely dedicated and that, in a way, motivated me to

take my leap forward. They made me overcome my fear

of stretching myself and that made me give my best in

everything that I did. Thanks to the reproachable

deadlines. They made me more professional and most

importantly, a better manager! Our hectic, overloaded

schedules were balanced with refreshing sessions like

Table Tennis matches or sometimes even small

get-togethers to keep our spirit going. Coming to my

hostel and friends, I had a lot of learning in terms of

balancing my hostel and college life. There were also

some unfavourable experiences that I had to overcome

but nevertheless, I came through all of them, and now I

stand as someone who can vouch for all my actions and

be completely confident of pursuing my next year of

MBA with a whole new perspective towards life.

Internship created quite a buzz in our

college two months back and now, I am

done with it. Abbott India in Mumbai,

was where I interned, for the two months

period. My project was on identifying

areas / opportunities of cost optimization

across various support functions and

businesses of the organization. The best

part of my internship was to interact

with all the senior people in the organi-

zation and this gave us ideas and views

which in turn, helped us to give our

recommendations for the project.

Another important learning for me in

particular, was business communication

at work place. Overall, it was a brilliant

kickstart for me as I managed to engage

myself in short conversations with a lot

of other MBA pursuing students.

Mathangi Sridhar

First of all I would like to thank all

those who made it possible for me to get

into Tata Motors specially Arkss Sir and

Arka Sir. To work in a company like Tata

Motors was a fabulous experience

for me. Though I had work experience in

the past. The exposure and the kind of

work culture which I saw was just out-

standing at Tata Motors. I feel lucky to

have got an opportunity of having done

my interns in such a big and reputed

company.

Swarup Kumar Basuri

My first corporate experience was the best

and the place where I did my interns was

at 24/7 Innovation Lab, Bangalore. It was

a four month roller coaster ride with a lot

of fun and learning going hand in hand.

The project which I was involved into in-

cluded text mining of data along with

business insights and recommendations. It

was into Data Analytics. I was the only

intern working in my team along with the

employees who were from IIMs and IITs.

I learnt how to adapt myself in the

corporate culture. The best part of my in-

ternship was my team at 24/7 along with

all the Senior People I interacted with.

This corporate experience was the first

and probably the best where I learnt a lot

of small things which would help me not

only now but for the rest of my life.

Bhanu Oberoi

It was an awesome experience for me to

work for Mini Box Office. It was a

wonderful 4 months for me as the Project

in Charge and also as the Festival

Coordinator for BSFF-2012. It was real

exposure for me where I learnt a lot of

stuffs such as communicating with the

filmmakers , searching for sponsors and

thus speaking with them to finalize the

deal. Finally the event was a dream come

true for me when the 1st edition of

BSFF-2012 was a huge hit and success in

Bangalore.
