    Valedictory Speech of Rene Mark Steven Masias (High School Class2012)

    To our honorable guest speaker, Governor Grace Padaka; our Chief Executive Mentor, Dr.Genevieve edes!a Tan; "chool President, Dr. Marl #. $erenal; #ice President for %cade!icand &esearch, Ms Mar'orie Guttiere( Tangog; Principal for )asic Education, Ms. Marie #ic $."uare(; !e!bers of the !anage!ent, distinguished guests, facult* and staff, our dearparents, fello+ graduates, friends, ladies and gentle!en, good afternoon.

    %ccording to &alph Marston, Excellence is not a skill. -t is an attitude. /o !an everreached to excellence in an* one art or profession +ithout having passed through the slo+and painful process of stud* and preparation 01orace2. -f *ou are going to achieveexcellence in big things, *ou develop the habit in little !atters. Excellence is not anexception; it is a prevailing attitude 0Collin Po+ell2. Excellence should be exhibited inever*thing that +e do. Excellence is an attitude, an unconscious desire to acco!plish thingsexcellentl* that +ould !ake us not !eet the expectations but surpass it.

    Toda*, - have !ixed feelings of delight and sorro+. Delighted because - can see ho+ happ*!* fello+ graduates are. %fter the see!ingl* endless ho!e+ork, 3ui((es, long tests andstress, +e !anaged to survive +ithout an* casualties. "eeing each of !* batch !ates4 facesso!eho+ gives !e a little flashback of the !an* different !e!ories +ith ever* one of *ou.- kno+ +e have all shared a!a(ing !e!ories +ith each other, cried on each other4sshoulders or handkerchiefs, laughed till that Pepsi spilled through our noses, and evenargued like cra(* but still, - see that the bonds bet+een us +ill never break and that this +illbe so!ething +e +ill al+a*s have. - also see e*es slo+l* tearing up, +hich !akes !e feelsad because +e !ust sa* our te!porar* goodb*es. 5e have gro+n up together and haveco!e to kno+ each other as siblings. )ut 'ust like in !ost fa!ilies, one +a* or another,siblings !ust sa* their goodb*e eventuall*.

    flaunt to ever*one the product of loving, caring and disciplining hands.

    - re!e!ber the sa*ing 5e cannot direct the +inds but +e can ad'ust the sails . -experienced this last *ear +hen /athan %larcon and - participated in the 6%P- $edExco!petition. 5e had 78 da*s till the dead line. 5e had a load of +ork to do in school and +ehad the option to 'ust give up. 5e did not as +e +ere taught not to easil* give up. 5ecollaborated and in exactl* 78 da*s, +e +ere able to create a business plan that +as able to!ake it to the finals. M* fello+ graduates, this proves that hat e ill !e in the f#t#re

    ill depend on hat e do ith o#r lives today$ &e "ay depend on "any otherpeople like o#r parents and teachers !#t at the end of the day' the one ho o#ld

    ad #st the sails* o#ld !e #s$ Doing bad things !a* hurt *our loved ones but the*+ould haunt *ou even !ore. ike+ise, doing great things and kno+ing that *ou +orked ver*hard for the! !akes an achieve!ent even s+eeter because *ou kno+ those are the fruitsof *our labor. - feel ver* fulfilled because - kno+ - +orked hard for this and - al+a*s ai!edfor excellence. Getting here +as a bu!p* ride but thanks to all the lessons, the guidance,the kno+ledge and the 'o* that ever*one shared +ith !e co!bined +ith the values - havelearned to develop, - +as able to reach +here - a! no+.

    5hen - +as elected vice president of the student council last *ear, - had fun experiencesbecause of the people - !et. The council +orks together and sees to it that things areacco!plished, not 'ust acco!plished but acco!plished beautifull*. 5e had so !an*proble!s along the +a* and so!eti!es +e need to be creative in finding solutions. M*fello+ graduates, don+t let the sol#tions co"e to yo#' go and find it$ 1aving a highposition +as even tougher because - had to sho+ ever*one that - a! a role !odel. This +asnot hard to do since - +as raised in an environ!ent that taught !e good values and

    To !* grade school teachers na!el*9 Ms. Glad*s Mintu, Ms. ani Cachapero, Ms. M*lene)otalon, Ms. 6an Gutiere(, and Ms Chi3ui &e*es, thank *ou for al+a*s believing that - coulddo better, and for still looking out for !e even +hen - +as alread* in high school. :ou are allso approachable and al+a*s +illing to give !e pieces of advice that helped !e beco!e!ore responsible and open to ne+ things. - learned that opening up to ne+ ideas and ne+experiences intensif* the kno+ledge that - gain in the classroo! and for that - thank *ouver* !uch.

The* reall*helped a lot especiall* in the !ath section of the entrance exa!inations that - took in thedifferent universities. To Ms. #ioli %lducente, thank *ou for the love and care *ou sho+ed toour class and !ore thank *ous for the great help *ou extended in !* pass research.Despite the long hours of t*ping unexpected !istakes during the experi!ent, +e +ere ableto develop an outstanding research paper. "outhville Eli(alde ca!pus to our ho!e in )acoor, Cavite. - al+a*s feltscared but in ti!e - got used to it. M* parents reall* did their best to !ake !e anindependent kid. %nother exa!ple of this +as +hen !* dad +ould ask !e to stud*. %t firsthe +ould force !e to stud* but as ti!e +ent on, +ithout !e even noticing it, - +as alread*stud*ing on !* o+n. - learned to develop an initiative to stud*. $ro! then on, - have beenindependentl* stud*ing and that is all thanks to !* parents.

    Independence is one of the "ost i"portant val#es to have in order to !eco"e agood decision "aker and !eing a good decision "aker helps one !eco"e a goodleader and person$ 5e cannot 'ust have fun all the ti!e but at the sa!e ti!e, +e cannot
