4 Issue Number 23 June 11, 2019 After Cindy and I were married we lived in Southern California. During the first several years we would plan our trips home, usually twice a year if we could afford it. At first, we would get out the map and choose a route. We studied the roads we would take and the turns we needed to make and became familiar with the route before we left. Along the route we would often check our progress with the map and determine where we would stop and eat or spend the night. The map allowed us to know where we were going, what we could expect each step of the way, and an approximate time for arrival at each point. Isn’t that what we want in life? We want a road map that tells us where to go and what to do. We want to know every detail before it happens so that we can be confident about what we are doing. Is that how God works? Does He give us a detailed plan for our lives? Let’s look at what God told Abram (Abraham) and see if that is how God works: Genesis 12:1-4a: Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him… God told Abram to go. He didn’t tell him where and He didn’t tell him why and didn’t even tell him how. Just “go” and “I wi ll show you.” Abram went forth by faith, trusting that he was obeying God. How about you? Are you willing to trust God enough to do what He puts on your heart, even if you don’t know the full plan? Let me give you some good news today. God has given us a road map to follow. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…” Jesus is the way. If you want to know where God is leading you in this world, follow Jesus. Allow Him to guide your thinking and your actions. Keep your focus on Him as you go, and He will put you right where you belong for that moment. Beloved, as a Christian, your final destination is Heaven. The road to Heaven is straight and narrow. Jesus is your guide and He will lead you to the Father. Don’t wait until you know every detail of your life to live it. Walk with the Lord and allow H im to surprise you ever now and then. If the Lord has not shown you the next five steps in your life, take the one step that leads you towards Him. After you take that step, He will show you the next step. We are to live by faith and that means we can trust God with each day, one day at a time. Let Jesus be your road map to life. I think you will like the final destination. Issue Number 23 June 11, 2019

After Cindy and I were married we lived in Southern California. During the first several years we would plan our trips home,

usually twice a year if we could afford it. At first, we would get out the map and choose a route. We studied the roads we would take

and the turns we needed to make and became familiar with the route before we left. Along the route we would often check our

progress with the map and determine where we would stop and eat or spend the night. The map allowed us to know where we were

going, what we could expect each step of the way, and an approximate time for arrival at each point.

Isn’t that what we want in life? We want a road map that tells us where to go and what to do. We want to know every detail

before it happens so that we can be confident about what we are doing. Is that how God works? Does He give us a detailed plan for

our lives?

Let’s look at what God told Abram (Abraham) and see if that is how God works: Genesis 12:1-4a: Now the Lord had said to

Abram:

“Get out of your country,

From your family

And from your father’s house,

To a land that I will show you.

I will make you a great nation;

I will bless you

And make your name great;

And you shall be a blessing.

I will bless those who bless you,

And I will curse him who curses you;

And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him…

God told Abram to go. He didn’t tell him where and He didn’t tell him why and didn’t even tell him how. Just “go” and “I will

show you.” Abram went forth by faith, trusting that he was obeying God. How about you? Are you willing to trust God enough to do

what He puts on your heart, even if you don’t know the full plan?

Let me give you some good news today. God has given us a road map to follow. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the

life…” Jesus is the way. If you want to know where God is leading you in this world, follow Jesus. Allow Him to guide your thinking and

your actions. Keep your focus on Him as you go, and He will put you right where you belong for that moment.

Beloved, as a Christian, your final destination is Heaven. The road to Heaven is straight and narrow. Jesus is your guide and He

will lead you to the Father. Don’t wait until you know every detail of your life to live it. Walk with the Lord and allow Him to surprise

you ever now and then. If the Lord has not shown you the next five steps in your life, take the one step that leads you towards Him.

After you take that step, He will show you the next step. We are to live by faith and that means we can trust God with each day, one

day at a time. Let Jesus be your road map to life. I think you will like the final destination.

Alan’s Notes

A s you read this, we will have celebrated our 34th

anniversary and will be celebrating some quality time with our grandchildren. Of course, we will also be celebrating some quality time with our son and daughter-in-law as well! Where in the world does the time go? I

have asked myself that question numerous times since we moved to Sayre. When we arrived, Curtis was in 10th grade and Clayton was in the 3rd grade. Now Curtis and Maggie have 3 children of their own and Clayton will be graduating from OSU in 2020. Times change, culture changes, people change, children grow, but through it all, one theme remains constant. God is faithful! I can assure you that throughout the last twelve years, I have NOT been perfect, I HAVE failed, and I have had many shortcomings. Our God on the other hand has been and IS perfect, He HAS NEVER failed, and He has no shortcomings whatsoever! In Psalm 25: 6-8 David prayed a prayer of dependence on the Lord. In it he wrote, “Remember, LORD, your compassion and your faithful love, for they have existed from antiquity. Do not remember the sins of my youth or my acts of rebellion; in keeping with your faithful love, remember me because of your goodness, LORD. The Lord is good and upright; therefore he shows sinners the way.” (CSB) God hears our prayers as we declare our dependence on Him and demonstrates compassion for each repentant child. He does not let us languish in our sin, but shows us the way to grow and become more conformed to His image. I am so grateful to serve a God like that because He does not let me languish in my imperfections and sins, but is faithful to be compassionate while He shows me a better way and beckons me to die to self and live to Him. I may not know what the next 10 years will hold, but I DO know that God will be faithful in them as well. Thank you for the privilege of serving alongside of you in both music & discipleship ministries. Thank you also for the opportunity to take a quick break to rest and see my family.

Serving the Faithful One,

Brother Alan

Stefan’s Thoughts

Church and Parents,

The first thing I would like to say this week is praise be to God! What an incredible day we had on June 1 st. We made it safely home from ACC Camp at Falls Creek, had an incredible Youth Garage Sale, and witnessed Matt Riggs be ordained to the ministry. I wanted to give a big shout out to our church family for your generosity. Your donations made it possible for us to have the garage sale, which raised $1900.00. Pray for

our Youth Team as we prayerfully seek God and use the money raised to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ through the student ministry. Thank you SO MUCH church!

We’ve started a new series called “God Is.” For the next three sessions, our teenagers will look at different character traits of God and how those traits invite us to know and love God more. We also will explore how these traits impact their relationship with Jesus.

In this first lesson, we dug into Genesis 39, where Joseph experienced God’s presence in both the good (leading successfully) and the bad (being thrown in prison). God is everywhere and nearby. That may sound like a contradiction, but it shows us the beautiful character of God. God is near you when things are going well, as well as on the worst days.

Take some time to talk more with your teenager(s) about this lesson. Use these questions to get started:

When do you feel God’s presence the most?

Tell me about a “God Sighting” from this past week or two—evidence that God has given you of His nearness.

When God feels distant, what helps you remember that he is actually near?

Know that I’m praying for you and your family. Please pray for me and our students that are attending Super Summer this week. Students at Super Summer consist of Gabby Spieker, Madi Spieker, EmilyJo Riggs, Makenna Valdez, and Mason Valdez. Thank you in advance, I hope you have an amazing week!
