Toppers’ Conclave at Rajbhawan The third toppers’ conclave was held at Uttarakhand Raj Bhawan auditorium from 8 th to 12 th August 2017. The conclave was inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand State Dr. K.K Paul while Chief Minister Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat, Bharat Ratna awardee Prof. C.N.R Rao and the State Education Minister, Shri Dhan Singh Rawat was present. The first conclave was started in 2015 at the initiative of the Hon’ble Governor to encourage and educate the young talents of the State about the thrust areas where research and higher studies are required. The initiative has won great appreciation from the teachers, students and the intelligentsia. So as to inspire the youngsters to do better in their professional career, the conclave honored the two PG toppers of each of the State University. The toppers got the opportunity to express their views on a number of subjects before the well known educationists and intellectuals which helped them to gain confidence and to be creative. Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand Govt., Shri S Ramaswamy spoke on “Importance of good governance in development with reference of Uttarakhand”. Dr. Rajendra Dobhal, DG, UCOST, talked on “Role of scientific inventions in economic development”. Prof. Anoop Kumar Gakkhar addressed on “Ayurveda in our daily lives and Herbal Uttarakhand - the way forward”. 1. Toppers’ Conclave at Rajbhawan

The third toppers’ conclave was held at Uttarakhand Raj Bhawan auditorium from 8th to 12th August 2017. The conclave was inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand State Dr. K.K Paul while Chief Minister Shri Trivendra Singh Rawat, Bharat Ratna awardee Prof. C.N.R Rao and the State Education Minister, Shri Dhan Singh Rawat was present. The first conclave was started in 2015 at the initiative of the Hon’ble Governor to encourage and educate the young talents of the State about the thrust areas where research and higher studies are required. The initiative has won great appreciation from the teachers, students and the intelligentsia.

So as to inspire the youngsters to do better in their professional career, the conclave honored the two PG toppers of each of the State University. The toppers got the opportunity to express their views on a number of subjects before the well known educationists and intellectuals which helped them to gain confidence and to be creative. Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand Govt., Shri S Ramaswamy spoke on “Importance of good governance in development with reference of Uttarakhand”.

Third day, Dr. Savita, Director, FRI, spoke about “Livelihood Issues of Uttarakhand and Role of Forestry”. Prof. Anoop Kumar Gakkhar addressed on “Ayurveda in our daily lives and Herbal Uttarakhand - the way forward”. On the same day, the toppers were taken to Centre for Aromatic Plants (CAP) at Selaqui for a visit.

Fourth day, Dr. Anil P Joshi gave a talk on “Rural Economy, its development in Uttarakhand - Innovative techniques”. 2. Digital Economy and Cyber Security Prof P K Garg, Vice Chancellor, UTU attended a Workshop on "Digital Economy and Cyber Security" organized by Vigyan Bharti at Doon University on Aug. 12, 2017. He addressed the gathering on the topic. Hon’ble Minister of Higher Education, Dr Dhan Singh Rawat was the Chief Guest on the occasion who highlighted some salient points related with the topic.

3. Independence Day celebration

The University celebrated 70th Independence Day on August 15, 2017. Prof. P.K Garg did flag hoisting at 9.00 AM followed by the National Anthem, and later addressed the Officers, employee, students and faculty present there.

4. Seminar on Art of Living

To experience the bliss of yoga and meditation, University organized a seminar on “Art of Living” on 19th August 2017 at University auditorium. Sri Sri Yoga classes are taught with an emphasis on all aspects of Yoga specially hatha yoga, which focuses on uniting mind, body and breath. Happiness program helps to learn the techniques to make your life a constant celebration. Sahaj Samadhi

Meditation program helps to learn the art of effortless meditation. Prof. P.K Garg, Vice-Chancellor welcomed Dr. Shilpa from Art of Living, on this occasion. Dr. Shilpa provided the brief about the benefits of Arts of Living, and demonstrated many simple yoga exercises. All the University officers, non-teaching and teaching staff were present on the occasion.

5. Memorandum of Understanding University on 21st August 2017, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AKG Skills Foundation, Ghaziabad for Industrial Automation & Robotics Labs. This MoU will provide opportunities to students for their skill upgradation.

The MoU includes mutual co-operation on new or existing academic programmes, development of joint research activities, doctoral student training and development, the exchange of information in the form of publications and journals, reference materials and other results of teaching and research, and any other activities viewed to be potentially beneficial.

6. B.Tech Lateral Entry Counseling On 27th August 2017, as per the direction from Uttarakhand Govt., the University has successfully conducted the counseling for B. Tech lateral entry course of Women Institute of Technology. 7. Research Proposal University has invited the research proposal for the use of Alcometer (a device used for the detection of consumption of alcohol in human body). The proposal should contain methodology with flow diagram along with software, hardware. time, cost and team involved. The last date for submission of proposal is 20th September 2017. Health Awareness The CEP-UTU event including lectures on “Health awareness” was scheduled on Saturday, August 26, 2017. Large number of Pharma students from various colleges participated in the event.

9. Odd Semester Back Paper Examination

In the month of August 2017, University successfully conducted Odd Semester Back Paper Examination (Technical Courses) .

10. Revision of Regulations and Syllabus of Pharma As per the directions of Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) for revision of regulation and syllabus for B.Pharm and M.Pharm courses, the University has revised the regulation & syllabus and implements the newly introduced syllabus for B. Pharm and M. Pharm course and also directed all the pharmacy colleges affiliated to University to implement the newly introduced syllabus for B.Pharm and M.Pharm courses. Designed and Finalised the Syllabus and Ordinance

of B.Arch Course

The University conducted a BOS to develop the Ordinance and Syllabus of B.Arch programme. After sever, iterations and meetings with the experts from IIT Roorkee and UTU

affiliated colleges, particularly DBIT, Dehradun, these were finalized.

12. Environmental Science Course

UGC has suggested the syllabus of Environmental Science course which a compulsory course to all students of Ist year. It was circulated to all colleges to implement from this session. The course contents have been uploaded on the website of the University

13. Spoken Tutorial

The Spoken Tutorial project is the initiative of the ‘Talk to a Teacher’ activity of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India. Universities vide letter no. 1792/UTU/2017 has nominated various institutes for participation in Spoken Tutorial programme of IIT Bombay.

The Spoken Tutorial programme is about teaching and learning a particular FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) via video tools through distance learning mode (http://spoken-tutorial.org/)

14. Action to Curb Ragging

To curb the menace of ragging in all the Institutes (affiliated and constituent) of University, University vide letter no. 9672/UTU/17 directed the Directors of all institutes to submit an affidavit from students and parents on a Non-Judicial Stamp Paper of Rs.10/- duly attested by oath commissioner. The same has been made mandatory by the AICTE and by the Hon’ble Supreme Court. 15. Wheel box Testing With reference to Association of Indian Universities notification, State Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition (one of the constituent institute of University) has successfully registered on Wheel box Employability Skill Test. 16. Run for Uttarakhand

On 29th August 2017, on the occasion of National Sports Day, the Uttarakhand state has organized ‘Run for Uttarakhand’ marathon.

Shri. Trivendra Singh Rawat, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttrakahnd flagged off a ‘Run for Uttarakhand’ to mark the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand. Hon’ble Minister of Sports, Shri Arvind Pandey addressed the gathering after the run.

Large number of people of all ages participated in the run. Prof. P.K Garg, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, also participated on ‘Run for Uttarakhand’

17. RDCs for Ph.D Scholars

University has successfully conducted the RDCs of old and newly enrolled Ph.D scholars for various specializations from 8th to 31st August 2017. PhD scholars also presented the State of Seminar on these dates.

RDC is held regularly every six moths to monitor the progress of students as well as providing them useful guidelines by the subject experts.

18. Toppers Awards Function

On 29th August 2017, the Times of India group organized the Toppers Awards Function at Doon Girls School, Dehradun. Hon’ble Finance Minister Shri Prakash Pant was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Prof. P.K Garg, Vice-Chancellor, UTU graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.

The Chief Guest distributed the awards to toppers students of 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th standard of Uttarkahand.

19. M.Pharm students visit

M. Pharm students of the University undertook a visit to Himalaya Drug Company on August 8, 2017.

The students had an opportunity to explore Production department, Quality Assurance Section, Herbal Garden and Museum. They were accompanied by Dr.Yusra Ahmad, HOD, Faculty of Pharmacy (FOP), UTU and Mr.Jagdish Bisht from FOP UTU.

The President of Himalaya Drug Company Dr. S. Farooq also interacted with the students.

20. Health awareness

CEP-UTU organized lectures on Health awareness on August 26, 2017 at New Building, UTU. The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest of the session Prof.P.K Garg, Honorable Vice Chancellor, Uttarakhand Technical University, Dehradun.

The Lectures were delivered by Dr. Somita Handa, Medical Officer –Anti Retro Viral Therapy, Doon Hospital on “An Overview of HIV/AIDS with its prevention and control”and Dr. Chinappan Baskar, Associate Professor, THDC-IHET, Tehri on “Chemistry behind the Health Science”, vote of thanks was given by Dr.Yusra Ahmad, HOD, Faculty of Pharmacy and Coordinator CEP-UTU.

The attendees were Pharmacy students (B. Pharm and M. Pharm) from various Pharmacy colleges affiliated to UTU and the students and faculty members of Faculty of Pharmacy and Faculty of Technology, UTU. Organizing committee of the event were Dr.Yusra Ahmad, Dr. Prashant Gahtori, Dr. Shikha Baskar (Guest Faculty at FOP,UTU), Mr. Jagdish Bisht, Ms. Babita Rawat and Mr. Deepak Negi from Faculty of Pharmacy UTU.

21. International Conference

Prof. P.K Garg, Vice-Chancellor, was invited as Chief Guest in an International Conference on Pluralism,

Society and Management organized by Invertis University, Bareilly In collaboration with Howard University Washington D.C, USA, from 17th to 19th August 2017. The conference acted as a major forum for presentation of technological progress and research outcomes in the various areas of Pluralism.

SIHMCT & AN

1. Participation in Spoken Tutorial programme –

It was a matter of proud that SIHMCT & AN, New Tehri took part in the Spoken Tutorial Programme organized by the IIT Mumbai. This programme is mainly for the faculty and students to familiarize themselves with the software used to upgrade their teaching skills. This programme is free of cost and information related to many software can be received by the help of this programme.

Some of the software which are included in this programme are – Linux, Latex, PHP, My SQL, C, C++, Advance C, Advance C++, Java, Libre suit etc. This programme will help the students and faculties to enhance their skills related to IT (Information Technology) and even help the students to get knowledge about vocational training related to computers.

2. Independence day celebrations

SIHMCT & AN, New Tehri proudly celebrated our 71st Independence day within the premises. The programme began with the flag hoisting ceremony by the Hon’ble Director Dr. Yashpal Singh Negi followed by the national song by the Institute’s staff and students. Nitesh Gairola, a student of 1st year gave a speech related to the struggle of freedom. Mr. Pradeep Negi, Assistant Professor gave a speech related to the importance of constitution for the country men and even told the various incidents related to the freedom struggle. Last but not the least, an impactful and motivating speech was delivered by the Hon’ble Director Dr. Yashpal Singh Negi related to

the struggle of freedom and its importance for the nation. The function was concluded by the distribution of tea and Chaulai laddu as ordered by the Hon’ble District Magistrate, Tehri Garhwal.

3. Participation in an On-line Quiz Competition-

The students of BHMCT of the institute participated in an online quiz competition on 11th August 2017 organized by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Govt. of India.

The students took part with joy and exuberance. The students even received online certificate of appreciation & participation in the quiz competition by MHRD, Govt. of India.

4. Two day guest lecture series

A two day Guest Lecture series was held in the premises of the Institute by the subject experts on 17th and 18th August 2017 to enhance the skills of the students of the Institute.

On 17th Aug 2017 Ms. Namrita Kathait, a writer and spirituality trainer was invited to SIHMCT & AN for guest

lecture. She had delivered a fruitful lecture on the following topics: Personality development, Soft skills grooming standards, Body language. At the commencement of the guest lecture she was felicitated by Director Dr. Yashpal Singh Negi with a memento and a thankful speech.

In continuation of the guest lecture series on 18th Aug 2017 Mr. Ravindra Karasi, Corporate Manager-HR, Club Mahindra, Mussoorie had given a worthy lecture covering different issues of the hotel industry which were as following: Current scenario of hotel industry, Skill competencies in hospitality Industry, Quality & Attributes of a hotel personnel and Human resource development.

At the commencement of the guest lecture she was felicitated by Director Dr. Yashpal Singh Negi with a memento and a thankful speech.

Amrapali Institute of Hotel Management

1. Cold Buffet Workshop

A work shop on cold buffet preparation and layout was conducted on 29th July, 2017 at Amrapali Institute of Hotel Management, Haldwani under the guidance of Chef Mohit Arya along with Chef Himanshu Mehra and Chef Anjali Maheshwari. This learning event was attended by 58 students of the final year. This workshop was organised to familiarize the

students with cold preparation like salads, cold soups, meats, non edible displays, fruit carving etc. During the work shop an array of delicacies as salads both vegetarian and non vegetarian found a beautiful place as carving, plating and cold canopies of various preparations like Pâté en Croûte, Terrine de Poisson, Galantine de poulet, Ballontine de poulet, Chicken Quenelles with Chaud froid sauce and Chicken Aspic.

The esteemed management and faculty members of Amrapali Group of Institutes witnessed the workshop and tasted the salads. They were enthralled by the preparation, Layout and presentation and praised the effort of the chefs and students.

They also encouraged the staff to organise similar workshops in the institute campus for upgrading the knowledge of students.

2. Best Hotel Management Institute award

Amrapali Institute of Hotel Management won the Best Hotel Management Institute award from the Honorable Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Sri Trivendra Singh Rawat ji and Honorable Minister of Higher Education Dr Dhan Singh Rawat ji. The prestigious award ceremony was organized by TV 100, at Hotel Solitaire, Dehradun on 3rd August 2017.

3. Orientation Program 2017

The academic session this year formally began with the grand introduction of AIHM as ‘Orientation 2017’ to the new admissions in the Amrapali Institute of Hotel Management.

An event of utmost importance to familiarize the new students with the trends of the institute for their smooth movement is also aimed at making them feel at home to the new surroundings.

The Orientation week from 1st -7th August and 8th to 10th August, 2017, saw two subsequent sessions one each for BHMCT and BHM KU and DHMCT and DHM UOU

students. The customary lamp lightning ceremony was followed the welcome speech by Mr. Prashant Sharma, Dean Academics. The fresher’s were familiarized with the trends of the dynamic ‘Hospitality Industry’ by renowned Hotel Professionals like Mr. Raveesh Chhetri, Training Manager, Leela Group of Hotels and Mr. Mohammad Yusuf Yamin, HR Manager, Taj Group of Hotels .The venerated COO Prof. Dr S.K. Singh and experienced faculty also introduced the technicalities of life to the nascent buds at AIHM.

The commitment to assist the new students in making a smooth transition to the institute and to gradually introduce them to life in the institute, from academics and community norms to resources and support services has been the main essence of the program.

4. Alumni Meet 2017

Though the distance may be of miles, yet the heart dwells at its root’! True as the statement itself , the year 2017 brought back good memories to the old students who became a part of the token remembrance as ‘Alumni Meet 2017’ in the ‘Amrapali Group of Institute’ as the ‘AIHM Department’ invited them for a grand get- together.

The premises offered a flash back to the old students to rejuvenate their past treasured moments of student life. The ‘Alumni Meet 2017’ was organized by the students of

AIHM to welcome their seniors and to spend some fruitful time with them.

This event saw the traditional lamp lightning ceremony to get the blessings of Ma Saraswati in the presence of the esteemed Vice Chairman Mr. R.C. Monga of Amrapali Group of Institutes. The event opened with a welcome note.

The fun packed day of recreation through a variety of songs, music and dance along with a wonderful skit written and directed by the students was well appreciated by the Alumni. The ceremonious cake cutting and a gala lunch were some efforts to bring close the old students to their golden past. The alumni motivated the students by revealing their ‘success stories’. They rewarded the mentors by complementing the efforts of the teachers in shaping their life. The mentors were heard calling it the ‘biggest award of their life’.

The COO, Prof. Dr S.K. Singh called the presence of Alumni as an inseparable part of the life of Amrapali and congratulated them for their success. He called the Alumni as the ‘guardians’ of the industry and the ‘soul’ of Amrapali Group of Institutes and invited them for similar participation and get together in future. The fulfilled day came to a close with felicitation of the Alumni by the Dean Academics who bestowed his blessings with ‘mementos of love’ to the old students including some Alumni teachers working in the department itself.

5. Expert Lecture

Academia and Industry are two different worlds which operate on different pedestals. Both have different purposes and different ideologies. However, the rapid pace of change in the outside environment is compelling these two different worlds to come together to address and solve some of the

real-world challenges. There is an urgent need to fill the gaps between industries and academia. Realizing the call, Amrapali Institute of Management and applications (CSA, AIMCA) organized a one day expert session on 16/08/2017 for the BCA, MCA and B.Tech.(CS) final and pre final year students. We were honored to have Mr. Hemant Pawar (Service Delivery Manager at IBM Global Services) as an expert for session. He completed his B.Tech. from IIT, Delhi and had 11 years of experience of the IT Industry. He started his carrier with Microsoft as a software developer.

During his session Mr. Hemant Pawar emphasized in developing the interviewing skill among the students. He focused on skills for cracking the interview, written exams and aspects of professional resume writing. He also discussed the new emerging technologies like Big data and Hadoop and advanced java. The session started with the welcome address of honorable Dr. Manoj Pandey (Director, CSA, AIMCA) and around 250 students from different courses participated in the session. Mr. Hemant Pawar with his enthusiasm was able to connect to the audience very quickly and they both had a good time during the session. The session ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Nandan Singh Dasila (Placement Coordinator, FCSA).

Bishamber Sahai Group of Institute

Bishamber Sahai Group of Institute hosted an assembly on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi on Friday, August 2017. The presentation began with the prayer of Ganesh Sholokya by Chairman of Institute followed by a short information skit telling the importance of this festival. The Treasurer of the Institute Shri Saurabh Bhushan inspired the student and other faculty member to celebrate all the festivals together without any discrimination of caste and creed.

The students of M.A (Drawing) have performed a number of cultural activities depicting various themes. The students of Technical department choir confidently and melodiously chanted shlokas to invoke the blessings of Bhagwan ji with their 108 names. The Managing Director of the Institute Shri Gaurav Bhushan Sharma said his speech that we should have to understand the value of religions and serving the poor people is the best way of worshiping. The trainings placement officer of the institute Mr. Diwakar jain appreciated the presentation of and called it a sensitive, informative and innovative and an overall brilliant performance by the students of our Institute. Undoubtedly the students were thrilled. The celebration was completed by the distribution of sweets and stationary among the poor and helpless children.

Sardar Bhagwan Singh (P.G) Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Research

Sardar Bhagwan Singh (P.G) Institute of Biomedical Sciences and Research, Balawala celebrated the 71st Independence Day with fervent zeal and patriotism.

the Institute, Dr. G.D. Singh, Managing Secretary of the Institute and Prof. F.C. Garg, Director of the Institute. All staff members and students were present during the occasion.

This was followed by the speech of Prof. F.C. Garg, Director of the Institute during which he welcomed the new students to the Institute and urged the students to transform the country by positive thinking.

Later, Induction ceremony of the Institute Captains, Vice-Captains, and student secretaries of various clubs & societies of the Institute was done by pinning the badges. The function also witnessed presentation of academic awards to the meritorious students. The Institute choir group presented a bonanza of patriotic songs to mark the occasion. The celebrations ended with the distribution of sweets to all the staff and the students.

Shivalik College of Engineering

1. 15th August Independence Day Celebration

On 15th August 2017, Shivalik College of Engineering celebrated 71st Independence Day with a lot of gusto. Vice chairman of the college Mr. Ajay Kumar unfurled the national flag early morning and addressed everyone with his kind and patriotic speech.

Students, faculties and staff came together to celebrate the day with great enthusiasm and sang the national anthem

which was followed by a pledge taking ceremony. Students gave speech on the freedom fighters and performed various cultural activities that melted away the crowd.

2. First Year Orientation Programme:

First year orientation programme was organized by Shivalik College of Engineering on 10th August 2017.

All the HOD’s and faculties introduced themselves to the first year students and encouraged them to become a good engineer. It was an interesting session where awareness was created among students about the college curriculum.

3. Guest Lecture

Department of Mechanical Engineering in Shivalik College of Engineering conducted a Guest lecture on “Power System used in Hydro Power Plant” on 19th August 2017 by Er. Amod Raturi (A.E).

A detailed power point presentation was given by him, covering all the major components of hydro power plant, power system, power transmission. Case study of Tehri hydro project was presented comprising from the initial construction phase to current power generation phase. There was a great enthusiasm among the students as they get to know about the practical aspects of the hydro power plant and its working.

He also shared few words regarding career building and joining of any government organization which can certainly help students in choosing a guided and focused path to achieve their respective goals.

4. Activity Day

Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering organized an event on 19th Aug 2017 under extracurricular activities. Event was “FUN WITH FOOTBALL”, the initiative was under the activity day which was actively participated by 2nd, 3rd, 4th year students of Shivalik college of Engineering. This event was thoroughly enjoyed by students and faculty.

Motive behind the event was to create team spirit, to inculcate management skills and physical fitness.

Shriram Institute of Management, Kashipur

1. Placement 2017

At Shriram Institute of Management and Technology, Kashipur, Twenty-eight of the MBA students have got their respective jobs in several reputed companies yet, where companies have chosen our students through Campus Placements, Skype Interviews, Personal Interview and telephonic. Best Companies are TCS, IBM, Bengal Iron Corporation, Proctor & Gamble [P&G], Paytm, Gati Kinetic Limited, Videocon, Wipro, Birla Sunlife, Arena Animation, Blue Ocean International, SPNG Group, Naini Papers etc.

Their parents also feel proud of their children and say big thanks to Shriram Institute for this wonderful making. On this propitious selections, President Mr Ravindra Kumar,

Director Dr Yograj Singh, Principal Dr S S Khuswaha and all faculties had given blessings to the students and motivate them to work with honesty and responsibility. The Director also congratulated them and applauded for their efforts to get this offers. President, Mr. Ravindra Kumar wished them for their vertical evolutions. The successful arrangement of these placements could be done by Assistant Professor and Training & Placement Officer, Dr. Mudit Saxena. He feels proud of them and congratulated them to make prosperous growth in their careers.

2. Workshop

At Shriram Institute of Management & Technology, Kashipur, department of training and placement had arranged a 3 days Technical Workshop for the management students in the premise dated 22 – 24 Aug 2017. This successful workshop had been directing by trainers – Mr. Sandeep, Mr. Manjeet and Mr. Ghanshyam from Edunuts Technology Services, New Delhi. Our students were made to understand Digital Marketing, Front-end Development, Android, .Net, User Interface through this training session. The whole workshop was divided into six sessions for all 3 days which included introductory and practical phase. The students were really enjoyed and learnt about these technical tools.

The successful arrangement of this workshop could be done by Assistant Professor and Training & Placement Officer, Dr. Mudit Saxena. He told that workshop was not even a session to know about corporate technical tools, but also a sculpture of technical knowledge. For the sake of the workshop, President Mr Ravindra Kumar, Director Dr Yograj Singh, Principal Dr S S Khuswaha had appreciated the work of trainers and asked
