Hello HOSA Advisors, We hope that all is well and you have been able to get the school year off to a great start! We wanted to give you information about our State Leadership Conference this coming March on March 17-18, 2016. You may find all of the registration materials online at the Utah HOSA Website https://uthosa.wordpress.com. This packet contains step by step instructions for what you need to do to make sure your chapter is properly registered for competition. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions. We would like to remind you to PLEASE check and adhere to deadlines for competitions. If you fail to follow the deadlines, your students could be in jeopardy of not being able to compete. Students MUST be registered as HOSA member in order to register them for competition. Don’t forget that you as an advisor MUST be registered for the competition as well as registered as a HOSA professional member. Please note the change in registration cost as of November 2013. The cost is now $35 per participant due to economic changes. Students may compete in any competitions they would like that do not conflict. No competitions will be held for students competing in other events during the current competition. Students MUST attend the orientations that are related to their competitions. Please make sure you do not register students for competitions that are running at the same time. There are absolutely NO REFUNDS. There are several events that have 2 rounds to competition. The test score from Round 1 will be used to qualify the competitor for the Round 2 skill procedures. If there are more than 10 competitors in Medical Spelling, Creative Problem Solving, and Parliamentary Procedure there will be a test to qualify the competitors to move on to the next round of competition. Please be sure your students have all the rules. If rules are not followed, disqualification from the competition may result. To continue to celebrate our FRESH HOSA year, we will be having our Utah HOSA 7th 5k fun run on the morning of Friday, March 18th. Please make sure that you register your students that will be participating. There is a $10 fee for each participant which will include a t-shirt. All proceeds for the fun run will go to the Utah HOSA Scholarship Fund. Thank you for all of the work that you do for Utah HOSA and for your students. Your work does not go unnoticed. If any of you would like to learn more about the competitive events, we always need help running and judging the competitions. Thank You! 6. If a student is responsible for stealing or vandalism, the student and his/her parents will be expected to pay any and all damages.
7. Members/participants attending the Conference may not purchase, consume or be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at any time. Violators will be subject to stringent disciplinary action.
8. The HOSA Conference is a non-‐smoking conference.
9. Students who disregard the rules will be subject to disciplinary action and will be sent home at their own expense. Parents will be notified as well as School/District Administrators.
10. Any long distance phone calls, charges to the room, etc. will be the responsibility of the individual student and/or parents.
11. Members are to abide by the Dress Code Policy at all business sessions, general sessions, competitive events and other Conference activities.
12. As a delegate to the HOSA Leadership Conference, permission is granted to make photographs, videotapes, broadcasts, and/or sound recordings, separately or in combination, available for reproduction for educational and promotional purposes by National HOSA.
GENERAL SESSION PROTOCOL: The general sessions should be enthusiastic but delegates must not be rude or obnoxious to those in the audience or on stage. It is important to remain seated until the end of the session. Schools that do not adhere to general session protocol will be asked to send a representative to a special meeting of the HOSA Executive Council. I understand and will adhere to HOSA’s Dress Code Policy for all general sessions and for social activities of the HOSA Conference Guide. I have read the Code of Conduct for HOSA conferences and agree to abide by these rules.
