Copy the parts of the script that you want to use Create a vocabulary buildup, an introduction

document, cloze of the scene, copies of the script, comprehension questions , and discussion questions(or a subset of these)

What about music?Good for holidays, grammar topicsTo find free lyrics go to

http://www.songlyrics.comFind a video of someone singing the song at

Youtube.com. People like Frank Sinatra, Julie Andrews, and Barbra Streisand are easy to understand and there is often a close-up clip of them singing the song.

The rhythm of a song is easy to remember. Many times, it sounds like natural speech.

How to create a lesson around a songOpen MS Word and an Internet sessionIn your internet session, go to www.songlyrics.com

Search for “I’d like to teach the world to sing” Click on the title under song matches Highlight the lyrics On the menu,

Edit Copy

Go to MS Word. You will have a new blank document open.

On the ribbon, click on PasteScan the lyrics for new vocabularyMake your cloze exercise for the song by replacing

some words with a blank

In your internet session, go to www.youtube.com to find a clip

Type “I’d like to teach the world to sing” in the search box and click on Search

Try different clips to see what you like best. For class, we’ll demonstrate. We picked http://www.youtube.com/watch?

v=wVa0WPVuEOITo make the clip take up the whole screen click on

the icon below the video clip Hit ESC to return to the smaller version

Save the url to a document on your flash drive so you can get to the site quickly.

Why should you use Smart Room equipment?Great opportunity for variety

Students need more than the teacher writing on the board

Easy access to the internetThe document camera, if you have one, is easy

and environmentally correctWhat can you do if you don’t have a Smart Room?

Additional suggestion: Ask for and use time in a computer lab.

How to use Smart room equipmentThere is a laminated card in each classroom that

explains how to use the equipmentOn the teacher’s computer, go to the internetCopy the url from the saved document on your flash

driveTurn on the projector

Make sure the pc is the active piece of equipmentNow, everyone in class can see what is on the teacher’s

computer on the screen in the front of the classYou can use your electronic copy of the cloze to fill in

the correct answersOr

If you have one, have the students come to the document camera to fill in the blanks.
