TERMS FOR GRAPHICA

Graphica: All-encompassing term for manga, comic books and graphic novels (fiction and non-fiction)

Comic Book: Short-form work - usually printed in an inexpensive, soft-covered booklet similiar to magazines. This can be a single-issue story or miniseries. (Superman has been published monthly since 1939)

Trade Collection: Compendium of multiple comic book issues - can be in hardback or paperback form. Completed story arcs from a series are often compiled in this format.

Graphic Novel: Stories released only in larger-format book form. Stand alone books that have not been previously published as shorter comic book issues (can be serialized)
