Designed to maximise team based learning and innovation, the course promotes the generation of new ideas from perspectives across the supply chain, followed by the opportunity to present one of those ideas utilising the new tools, skills and information acquired during the week.

PROGRAM DETAILS

A review of the key demographic, economic, lifestyle, shopping pattern and dietary factors which are driving the consumer market for produce, how these are changing and how produce retailers, foodservice operators, distributors, processors, suppliers and producers will need to respond if they are to succeed.

Melinda Muth is Managing Director of Streamwise Learning / IFGM. She specialises in leadership development, team effectiveness, emotional intelligence and managerial decision making. Dr Muth designs and delivers customised corporate courses and has taught in a variety of global academic programs. She is also a facilitator, writer and faculty adviser for the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Melinda graduated from the University of Cincinnati magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Design followed by an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a PhD from AGSM in the field of corporate governance.

David has an international reputation on food industry marketing and management issues and fresh food in particular. He is an international advisory board member with food companies on three continents. Professor Hughes has developed and sold successful food businesses and been and adviser to McDonald’s, Waitrose, and J Sainsbury, and more recently, with major value-added fresh produce businesses in North America, Europe and Australasia. David is a strong proponent of building strong alliances between key chain members.

Martin Kneebone has a detailed understanding of the Australasian food market and supply systems. He has worked on both sides of the Tasman and in the supply and retail sectors, including a number of years as General Manager for Fresh Produce with Coles Myer where he oversaw a reorganisation of the supply chain. His company, Freshlogic, has offices in Melbourne and Brisbane and specialises in providing timely and state-of the-art market intelligence, particularly in relation to the supply chain and fresh foods. The company also offers a service to guide suppliers in their dealings with major corporate buyers.

Lisa Smith is the driving force behind the Minds at Work unique “Problem Solving Program” in which role she has been sharing the organisation’s thinking strategies with corporate high fliers, “community builders”, principals, teachers, crack police response teams, fire fighters, SES, truck builders, produce industry executives, food industry executives, meat industry executives, seafood industry executives, leading farmers and bull semen traders. She will challenge you to open up your potential for more creative thinking and provide you with action and evaluation tools for effective problem solving.

Tristan is an ex-retailer, having previously held senior positions with Sainsbury’s (UK) and Coles supermarkets, and is now a management consultant providing advice and support along the grocery value chain, from major retailers through to manufacturers and primary producers. He has a focus upon fresh foods and was the Group Merchandise Manager, Fresh Produce, at Coles Supermarkets (2005-09).

Michael Simonetta joined the Perfection Fresh sales team in 1984, was promoted to General Manager in 1988 and became CEO in 1991 when he and his brothers took control of the Company. They have grown a small operation in the Sydney Markets into a major marketer of fresh fruits and vegetables with particular emphasis on unique branded products such as baby broccoli and grape tomato. Michael is very involved in industry organisations and policy making in NSW, nationally and internationally, particularly through the Produce Marketing Association (PMA). In May 2009 Michael was appointed Chairman of PMA’s first-ever affiliate, PMA Australia/New Zealand. In 2005 Mr Simonetta received an Award for Excellence as the inaugural Rabobank Agribusiness Emerging Leader of the Year.

Tristan Harris graduated from the University of NSW with an Honours Degree in Engineering and has completed a MBA at the AGSM/UNSW. Prior to joining the family company he worked in global telecommunications and then managed his own successful businesses in retail and telecommunications. In 2006 he joined Harris Farm Markets in Sydney, Australia’s largest independent fresh produce retailer, and is now co-CEO and Director of Buying, Marketing and Logistics. He and his team are dedicated to growing the business by improving the total customer experience. Tristan is a Board Member of Produce Marketing Association-Australia & New Zealand and a Member of AICD.

Mr Sean HallahanC H I E F O P E R A T I N G O F F I C E R , C O S T A G R O U P

Sean Hallahan was appointed Chief Operating Officer of Costa in October 2017. He is responsible for leading all sales and operational activities across Costa’s farming, marketing and supply chain operations and for managing relationships with key alliance partners across all categories. With an extensive career in sales, marketing and innovation, Sean has performed senior roles with JR Simplot, SC Johnson and George Weston Foods. He was Director of Consumer Sales, Australia at SC Johnson and later Marketing Director at the Don KRC division of George Weston Foods. From 2010 to 2017, Sean was the Managing Director Australia, NZ & Indonesia for Tata Global Beverages.

Michael has had a long and successful career in the produce industry. He has been CEO of NZ based Seeka since 2006 and he is currently Chairman of the Produce Marketing Association Australia-NZ. Under his leadership, Seeka has focused on establishing a quality brand and establishing and supporting new Asian markets. Seeka currently exports to Japan, Korea, Chna and Thailand as well as Australia.

Mr Paul TurnerH E A D O F P R O D U C E , W O O L W O R T H S

Paul has worked across various departments at Woolworths for more than 33 years, Paul’s passion for produce has had plenty of time to grow. Paul understands the ins and outs of the seasons through working with buyers and farmers, and has a strong appreciation for freshness and taste. Paul is a highly experienced produce executive with Woolworths. His past positions include Merchandise Manager for Produce, Head of Trade for Chilled, Senior Category Manager Hard Produce, Vegetables and Organics and Produce Operations Manager. Paul is an alumni of the Produce Executive Program.

Mr George HaggarC H I E F E X E C U T I V E O F F I C E R , N U T R A N O P R O D U C E G R O U P

George Haggar joined the Nutrano Produce Group in January 2019 as Chief Executive Officer. George has transitioned from a successful career in human resources into general management and executive leadership. He began his career in the field of industrial relations and human resources, initially working for major employer organizations and assisting various companies with their HR/IR issues. He then moved into the transport and logistics industry where he held a number of senior management positions in human resources and industrial relations with TNT Australia. George then moved to Visy Industries where he was Head of Human Resources for 6 years and then General Manager of their high quality print and point of sale business unit for 2 years. He then spent the next 8 years as Chief Operating Officer for the Costa Group. Prior to joining Nutrano, George held the role of CEO at Murray River Organics (ASX:MRG). George holds a Bachelor of Economics (major in Accounting) and a Bachelor of Laws.

The registration fee is $7,350 plus GST for PMA A-NZ members or $8,350 plus GST for non-members. The fee includes instruction, accommodation, all meals, books and supplies. No refunds are possible for any part of package not taken. Telephone and personal expenses, such as laundry and extra drinks, are not included.

Your completed registration form should be submitted online at your earliest convenience and not later than 5 October 2020. A tax invoice will be issued when this is received. Payment can be made by cheque, credit card or electronically.

C A N C E L L A T I O N

Any cancellation within eight weeks of program start will incur 50% of the program fee. Any cancellation with four weeks of program start will incur the full program fee. However, a company may send a replacement (subject to approval by the Program Director) if cancellation of the intended participant is necessary.
