Using Cut, Copy and Paste to move information page 1 of 2 One of the best features of as computer is being able to move information around within a document or even copy the information into another document. Whichever you want to do the principle is the same. First you need to practise using the online tools provided. To do this, go to the Edit Menu and click on Select All. Copy – leaves the information on screen and holds it unseen in the computer memory. Cut – deletes the information from the screen and holds it unseen in the computer memory. It can cause you to panic when the information disappears from the screen. Next open a new document. You do not need to save this document. Go to the Edit menu Click on Paste. Whichever you want to do the principle is the same.

If you only want to move a word, sentence or paragraph, you need to do this.First, move the mouse pointer to the end of the information you want to move, then holding down the left mouse button drag the mouse across the text until it is highlighted, as shown below.

Once the text is highlighted

Go to the Edit menu and click on Cut.

Move the mouse pointer to where you want the text to appear, click and check the flashing cursor is at that point.From the Edit menu, click on Paste.

The text should now appear where you want it.

You may have noticed in the Edit menu, the first tool is Undo. This will quite literally undo any changes you have made to your document. So if the text ends up in the wrong place or you just change your mind, remember Edit – Undo.

You can use Cut, Copy and Paste to move information within a document or from one piece of software [word processing] to another [email]. It is also useful for copyng information from the Internet for use in your document or email.
