The first kid that came to play to toy was Jian Rui, he can speak Chinese, so it was easier for me to ask him question. The other kids seems to all know which animal is my toy, so I think I did well on designing the animal. By watching the kids playing with my toy, I found that maybe they thought only by pulling the spring up and down is boring, so they invented new ways of playing with it. For example, a boy pulled the spring, and played it as a guitar; another boy pulled the spring really far and hit other kids. I think there are 2 reason why they did that, one is because they don't know how to play it properly, second is that they think it's boring by only pulling, so they wanted to do something more fun. Therefore, I think my toy is not interesting enough for kids to play.

User trial of the moving toy

2011-5-30Diane

Today we invited the kindergarten kids to come over and trail our toys. They

are mainly 3-4 years old, and included boys and girls. We moved the tables away,

and put all the toys we made on the floor, so the kids can have enough places to play.

The first kid that came to play to toy was Jian Rui, he can speak Chinese, so it

was easier for me to ask him question. I asked him what was the animal, he didn’t

know, but the kid next to him told me it was a yellow chicken. The other kids seems

to all know which animal is my toy, so I think I did well on designing the animal.

By watching the kids playing with my toy, I found that maybe they thought

only by pulling the spring up and down is boring, so they invented new ways of

playing with it. For example, a boy pulled the spring, and played it as a guitar;

another boy pulled the spring really far and hit other kids. I think there are 2 reason

why they did that, one is because they don't know how to play it properly, second is

that they think it's boring by only pulling, so they wanted

to do something more fun. Therefore, I think my toy is

not interesting enough for kids to play.

I should teach them how to play the toy, because

many kids were just pulling the spring really hard, and

when I bounced back, it actually hit another kid’s head.

Overall, I think I did a good job on the toy,

because there were lots of kids wanted to play with it,

they were kind of fighting for it. They were having fun

with it, they can tell which animal it is, and some of

the kids actually wanted their parents to buy it for them!

In this picture, three kids were playing my toys.

This is a screenshot from a video, the kid was pulling the spring the wrong way, and he pulled it really hard. I should first teach them the right way to play it.

A boy with another toy was trying to put the string on to my toy. I think he did that because he wanted to play with both toys together.
