1.0 INTRODUCTIONNovatec’sMVPSeriesVacuumPumpisdesignedtopneumaticallyconveyplasticpelletsorpowdersina vacuumconveyingsystem.Itdoesthisbycreatingavacuumto“pull”airthroughthepipingsystem.TheMVPseriesisuniquebecauseitcreatesvacuumviahelical,positivedisplacementinter-meshinglobes.Plasticpelletsorpowdersareintroducedintothemovingairstreaminvariousways,includingthroughtheuseofprobes,pick-uptubes,androtaryairlocks.TheMVPisusedincon-junctionwithvacuumreceiverstationvalvesetc.,toformtheconveyingsystem,whichiscontrolledwitheitheramastercontrolordistributedcontrolpanels.Severalvacuumpowerunitsmaybedesignedintothesystemasrequired.Vacuumconveyingsystemstypicallydistributematerialfromsilos,surgebins,blenders,ordryinghop-perstoprocessingmachinery.
2.0 WARNINGAlwaysdisconnectpowerbeforeservicing.Onlyqualifiedtechniciansshouldservice,maintain,orrepairtheMVP.Beforeusingthisequipment,readindetailtheproductbulletinsandotherinformationfoundinthismanual.Asafeinstallationisnecessarybeforeoperatingtheequip-ment.Theinstructionsshouldbeunderstoodandfol-lowedbeforeinstallingoroperatingtheequipment.
3.0 OPERATING LIMITATIONS3.1 Elevation and Exhaust Temperature
Donotoperatethevacuumpumpatelevationshigh-erthan2000feetabovesealevel.Consultfactorytoreviewhighelevationapplicationstodetermineifper-formancelimitationsapply.DecreasedmotorFLAlimitsmayrequirealternateoverloadprotectionoralternateHPmodelstoprovideadequatevacuumpower.
Blowerexhausttemperatureandmotorcoolingareafunctionofbothvacuumlevelandelevation.Blowerexhausttemperaturemustnotexceed330°Ftoavoidprematureblowerfailure.Athermal“snapswitch”isprovidedontheblower’sexhaustplumbing.Thisswitchisinterconnectedwiththestarter’scontrolsignaltostopthepump’soperationintheeventexhausttemperaturesextendbeyondthesaferange.Intheeventtheswitch‘opens’thepump’scontrolcircuitduetohightempera-ture,simplecool-downoftheswitchovertimewillrestoreoperation.
Highairinlettemperaturescanalsocauseexcessblowerexhausttemperature,soclosedloopsystems,commonlyusedwhenconveyingdehumidifiedmaterials,mayre-quireaninletcooler,orreducedvacuumlevels.
3.2 SEEK TIME
Excessivestartingandstoppingofthepumpwillreduceblowerandmotorlifeandvoidthewarranty.SeekTimeisacontrolparameterthatallowsyourpumptooperateforshortperiodsinvacuumbreakmode(novacuumload-ing)whilethesystemcontrolsearchesfornewdemands.UsingtheSeekTimefeature,pumpstartsmustbelimitedto12perhourtopreventprematurefailure.Themini-mumSeekTimeforapumpis180secondstoprevent exceeding12startsperhour.OptimumSeekTimemaybesetdependentuponpumpcapacity,utilization,num-berofstations,capacityofeachvacuumreceiver,andindividualstationthroughputs.SeeyourcontrolpanelinstructionmanualformoreinformationonSeekTime.
4.0 UNPACKINGCautionshouldbeexercisedtoseethattheequipmentisnothandledroughly.Thecratemustberemovedcare-fully.Donotpryagainstthemachinewhenremovingthecrate.Thevacuumpowerunitisusuallyshippedcom-pletelyassembledandrequiresnofurtherattentionpriortoinstallation.Noteanyshippingdamageondeliveryreceiptandreportimmediatelytotruckingcompany.
5.0 GENERAL INSPECTIONWhentheunitisunpacked,makeavisualinspectionlookingformissingpartsordamagethatmayhaveoccurredduringshipment.ReportanymissingpartstoNovatecimmediately.Allelectricalandmechanicalconnectionsshouldbecheckedfortightness,asvibrationduringtransitmaycausethemtoloosen.
IMPORTANT: Beforeplacingthevacuumpumpintoser-vice,besureoilhasbeenputinthepumpblower,asoilmayhavebeendrainedfollowingfactoryqualitycontroltesting.Seepage12forlubricationguidelines.

6.0 MECHANICAL INSTALLATIONOnlyqualifiedtechniciansfamiliarwithlocalandnationalcodesshouldinstallthisequipment.Connectthevacuumlinesasshownontheinstallationdrawings.Connectthecompressedair(80-120psig)toairactuatedvalvesasrequired.

Locatethepumpwhereitcanbeinterconnectedwiththevacuumsystempipingeasily.
Accommodationsshouldbemadetoallowfullaccessofthepumpforservice,especiallythebeltguard,starter,filter,vacuumbreakervalve,vacuumblowerandvacuumreliefvalve.Thevacuumgaugeshouldbevisible,butcanbecarefullyrotatedinitsfittingasrequired.(Usea9/16”wrench:DONOTTURNBYHAND).Thepumpshouldbesecuredtothefloortopreventmovementfromvibrationandisolatingpads(notsupplied)maybeinstalledtominimizenoisetransfertothefloor,ifdesired.

Thepumpiscommonlylocatednearthevacuumconveyingsystem’scyclonedustcollectorandiscommonlyconnecteddirectlytothecyclonelidwithrigidtubingorflexiblehose.Itisconvenienttoservicethedustcollectorandthepumpfilteratthesametime.
6.1 Compressed Air Supply:
CleancompressedairshouldbesuppliedtotheMVPpump’svacuumbreakervalvesolenoid,providing80to120psig.Anairfilter(notsupplied)shouldbeprovidedifthecleanlinessoftheairisquestionable.
6.2 Regulator Warning
Thecompressedairregulatorhasbeensetatthefactorytoallowthevacuumbreakertorelieveatthespecifiedvacuum.Tampering with the regulator will void the warranty. OnlyqualifiedNovatecserviceper-sonnelmayadjustthereliefpointviaregulatorpressure.

7.0 ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONNOTE:Pleaserefertotheelectricaldrawingssuppliedwiththispackage.Connecttheproperpowersupply(checknameplate)throughamainlinedisconnectswitch(notsupplied)toterminalconnectionsL1,L2,L3andgroundintotheMVPcontrolcabinetthatcontainsthemotorstarter.Thisistheonlypowerconnectionrequiredsincethemotorispre-wiredatthefactory.Seeschemat-icswiththispackage.SeeFLAspecificationtablebelow.
Connectcontrolwiringfromtheconveyingsystemcon-trolpaneltothesameelectricalenclosureasshownonthewiringschematicfortheconveyingsystemcontrolpanel.Verifythecorrectrotationofthemotorwiththedirectionallabelsonthepumpassembly.

8.1 Operating At Higher Elevations (2000ft.AboveSeaLevelOrMore)
Atmosphericpressureislowerathigherelevationsandasaresult,thecompressionofairbythepumprequiresmoreworkforvacuumconveying.Inthesehigheralti-tudeapplicationsthevacuumreliefvalveofMVPpumpsmustbeadjustedtopreventthepumpfromdamagingitselforthemotorbyattemptingtocompressairofreduceddensitytoanunsafelevel.Failuretoadjustthepumpwillvoidthepumpwarranty.
Whentheend-usesiteisknown,Novatecendeavorstopre-adjustthevacuumpump’sperformanceatthefactorytocompensateforelevationsabove2000feet.Novatecthenlabelsthevacuumreliefvalveaccordingly.Ifyourpump-usesiteis2000feetormoreabovesealevel,withnoindicationofpre-adjustmentonthepumpassembly,pleasecontactNovatecEngineeringortheNovatecServiceDepartmentatthenumberonthefrontcoverofthismanualtoobtaininstructionsonadjustingyourMVPpumpBEFOREoperating.
9.0 OPERATIONMVPSeriesVacuumPumpsoperateinresponsetocontrolsignalsfromthecentralvacuumconveyingsystemcontrol.Theystartautomaticallyinresponsetosystemdemandstoconveyplasticpelletsorpowderstovacuumreceivers.
TheMVPisequippedwithapumpprotectionfiltertoprotecttheblowerfromcarryoverdustandfinesthatcancreateblockages,adheretothewarmsurfacesoftheblower,increaseoperatingheat,andcreateabuildupontheblower’slobes;allofwhichcanresultinprematureblowerfailure.Thefiltermustbekeptcleananddefectfreetoallowfullvacuumairflowandprotectagainstentraineddust.
Inaddition,operatingtheMVPatexcessvacuumlevels,inhigheleva-tions,orwithheatedinletaircancre-ateelevatedblowertemperatures.
Toguardagainstdamageorfail-urefromoverheating,theMVPisequippedwithanover-temperaturesnapswitchthatwillsenseelevatedtemperaturesintheblowerandopentheMVP’svacuumbreakervalve,allowingtheMVPtoruninanoloadstate.Inthisfree-wheelingstate,vacuumloadingofmaterialishalted,andaredlightontopoftheMVP’sstarterboxisilluminated,indicatinganoverheatedconditionandtheMVP’sautomaticresponsetoprotectitselffromheatdamage.
TheMVPwillcontinueinthismodeuntiltheelevatedheatoftheblowerisreducedandthesnapswitchreturnstoitsnormalposition,closingthevacuumbreakervalveandallowingthevacuumsystemtooperatenormally.Notethatduringthistemperaturereductionmode,theconveyingsystemconnectedtothispumpisnotoper-ating,andmateriallevelsmayrunlow,creatinganalarmconditionatthecentralcontrol.
TopreventtheMVPfrombecomingoverheated,increasetheseektimetoallowthepumptofreewheellongerasapartofitsnormalcycle(SeeSeekTimepage4andtheconveyingcontrolinstructionsforyoursystem)andbesurethattheMVP’spumpprotectionfilterisinstalledcorrectlyinitshousing,isingoodcondition(notbent,noholesorfractures)andiskeptclean.AprematurelycloggedMVPfiltercanbetheresultofpoorcentralvacu-umcycloneservice.Besurethecollectioncanisteratthebottomofthecycloneisemptiedasneeded,topreventpass-throughofdustandfinestowardsthevacuumpump.

11.0 MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION SCHEDULEItisrecommendedthatmaintenanceandinspectionisdoneonascheduledbasis.Maintenancerequirementswillnaturallyvarywidelyforeachinstallationandspecif-icoperatingconditions.Itissuggestedthatacompleteinspectionbeperformedwiththenecessarymaintenanceattheendofthefirstday,thefirstweek,thefirstmonthandthefirst3months.Theseinspectionswillbeindica-tiveofhowoftenfuturemaintenancewillbenecessary.
Every Week Inspectthefiltercartridgeandcleanorreplaceasre-quired.Removefinesfromtheexteriorofthecartridgewithavacuum.Onmodelsequippedwithafoamrubberpre-filtersockoverthecartridge,itcanberemovedandcleanedseparately,butavoidexcessivestretchingthatwillkeepthesockfromfittingtightlyoverthecartridgewhenre-installed.
Ifcompressedaircleaningisused,besuretowearsafetyglassesorafaceshieldandblowfromtheinsideofthecartridgeoutward,throughthefilterleaves,toremovecollectedfinesandparticles.Someoutsidecleaningmayberequiredtodislodgeparticlesfromthefiltercrevices
Removecarryoverfinesandparticlescollectedintheclearpolycarbonatefilterchamberandwipetheinsideofthehousingwithacleanragtorestorevisibility.
Thefiltercleaningtimeintervalshouldbeshortenedifexperienceindicatesunusualdustloading.Checkthesystemforairleaksandcorrectasrequired.
Every Month Inspectthevacuumbreakervalvefilter/silencer.Cleanor replaceasrequired.
Every 6 Months Disconnectpowerandcheckforlooseelectrical connections.
Tightenallboltsandnutsthatmayhavelooseneddueto vibration.ChecktheVbelts.Inspect,adjustorreplaceasdetailedbelow.
11.1 Belt Adjustment and Replacement
11.1.1 Inspecting V Belts
1.Removethepumpfromserviceanddisconnect electricalpower.
2.ToinspectVbelts,removethe2boltsonendsofthebeltguard(seefigure4).Carefullyexamineeachbeltforexcessivestretch,looseness,frayedsurfacesorexposedcord.Replaceallbeltsifoneormorebeltsarefoundtobeexcessivelyworn.Alwaysreplacebeltsasaset;neverindividually.
3.Inspectthebelttension(figure5)usingthespecifica-tionsinthechart,below.Oncebeltsarefoundingoodconditionandtensionedproperly,replacetheoutsidepanelensuringall4screwsarefastenedproperly.Neveroperatethepumpwithoutthebeltguardfirmlyinstalled.

To inspect or replace beltsremove 2 bolts from eachend of belt guard and libelt guard ver�cally. Bolt belt guard back in place when maintenance complete.

11.1.2 Replacing V Belts
If broken, stretched or excessively worn belts require replacement:
1.Removetheentirebeltguardbyremovingthe4boltsthatconnectthecovertothepumpbase(seefigure4,ontheleft),andliftthecoverstraightup.
2.Loosenthemotor’smountingboltsandslidethemotorbasetowardsthepump,allowingthebeltstoloosen.Removethebelts(seefigure5).
3.Confirmuseoftheproperreplacementbelts(seepartslist,page9)andinstallthemcarefullyontoeachsheavepulley. All belts must be replaced as a set; never indi-vidually.
4.Re-tensionthebeltswiththeslidingmotorbaseaccordingtothechart(figure6).Notethatnewbeltsrequiregreaterinitialtensionthanbeltsthathavebeeninoperation.Doublecheckthebelttensionwhiletighteningthemotorbaseandassurethemotorstaysinalignmentwhilere-tightening(seefigure7).
5.Re-attachthebeltguardensuringthefourmountingboltsaretightandlockingwashersareinplace. Confirmthatnopartofthebeltguardcomesincon-tactwithrotatingsheavesorbelts.
6.Reinstalltheoutsidepaneloftheguard.All4boltsmustbeinstalledforsafety.Neveroperatethepumpwithoutthebeltguardfirmlyinstalled.
11.2 Special Note: Sheave Re-installation
IntheeventanewblowerisfittedtoyourMVPvacuumpump assembly, it is important to assure proper place-mentofthesheaveonthepump’sdriveshaft.Ifnot,misalignmentandunacceptable“overhang”canoccur,prematurelywearingthesealsandbearingsofthepump.
Position of Sheave Pulley on MVP Pump Drive Shaft: The distance between the blower face and the installed pulleyfacemustnotexceed0.38”.
11.3 Cleaning Air-Filter
ForyourconveniencetheMVPisequippedwithafiltercartridgeenclosedinaClearVucannisterwhichallowsyou to know exactly when you need to clean or replace thefilterelement.
11.4 Removing Sound Curtains
Ifyouhavetheoptionalsoundcurtainkit,panelscaneasily be removed for access to perform maintenance.
ReleaseclampstoremoveClearVucannister. Pullcannisterstraightdownandemptyanydust.
Pullfilterstraightdowntocleanorreplace.

Lubrication Guidelines
1.NovatecmodelMVPseriesvacuumpumpsincludesplashlubricatedbearingsthatrequirenogrease,butboththegearandshaftsidesofthepumpunit containoilsumpsthatmustbemaintainedaspartofyourlubricationandoilreplacementproce-dures.
2.Thelubricationshouldbechangedafterinitial500hoursofoperationandthenafterevery1500hours.

NOVATEC,INC.offersCOMPREHENSIVEPRODUCTWARRANTIESonallofourplasticsauxiliaryequipment.WewarranteachNOVATECman-ufacturedproducttobefreefromdefectsinmaterialsandworkman-ship,undernormaluseandservicefortheperiodslistedunder“Warran-tyPeriods”.TheobligationofNovatec,underthiswarranty,islimitedtorepairingorfurnishing,withoutcharge,asimilarparttoreplaceanypartwhichfailsundernormaluseduetoamaterialorworkmanshipdefect,withinitsrespectivewarrantyperiod.Itisthepurchaser’sresponsibilitytoprovideNovatecwithimmediatewrittennoticeofanysuchsuspect-eddefect.Warrantedreplacementpartsarebilledandshippedfreightpre-paid.Thepurchasermustreturnthesuspectdefectivepart,freightprepaidandwithidentifyingdocumentationtoreceivefullcreditforthepartreturned.Novatecshallnotbeheldliablefordamagesordelaycausedbydefects.NoallowancewillbemadeforrepairsoralterationswithoutthewrittenconsentorapprovalofNovatec.
Theprovisionsinequipmentspecificationsaredescriptive,unlessexpresslystatedaswarranties.TheliabilityofNovatectothepurchaser,exceptastotitle,arisingoutofthesupplyingofthesaidequipment,or
itsuse,whetherbaseduponwarranty,contractornegligence,shallnotinanycaseexceedthecostofcorrectingdefectsintheequipmentashereinprovided.Allsuchliabilityshallterminateupontheexpirationofsaidwarrantyperiods.Novatecshallnotinanyeventbeheldliableforanyspecial,indirectorconsequentialdamages.CommoditiesnotmanufacturedbyNovatecarewarrantedandguaranteedtoNovatecbytheoriginalmanufacturerandthenonlytotheextentthatNovatecisabletoenforcesuchwarrantyorguaranty.Novatec,Inc.hasnotau-thorizedanyonetomakeanywarrantyorrepresentationotherthanthewarrantycontainedhere.Non-paymentofinvoicebeyond90dayswillinvalidatethewarranty.ArenewedwarrantycanbepurchaseddirectlyfromNovatec.

4.DesiccantWheelWarrantywillbevoidifthewheelhasbeenexposedtoplasticizer,dustorothercontaminantsasaresultofnegligenceonthepartoftheprocessor.
5.DryTemp+-Weassumenoresponsibilityfromequipmentfailuresresultingfromuntreatedorimproperlytreatedwater.
This warranty shall not apply to equipment:
1.RepairedoralteredwithoutwrittenapprovalofNOVATECunlesssuchrepairoralterationwas,inourjudgment,notresponsibleforthefailure
2.Whichhasbeensubjecttomisuse,negligence,accidentorincorrectwiringbyothers
3.Warrantyisvoidifprocessingratesexceedmanufacturer-recom-mendedlevelsorifdamageiscausedbyineffectivepowerisolationand/orpowerspikes/sagsorincorrectinstallation.
