The race results and the updated Grand Prix results are available on the Race Walking page of the PAUSATF.org website at https://www.pausatf.org/race-walking/race-walk-event-schedule/ How the Event was Conducted SAFELY (and Other Comments) Each athlete is identified by a bib number which corresponds to his/her/their initials. Comments below are in the same order as in Photo Gallery.

• Bib #AZ: Nothing crazy, but got it done. Alone on the bike path at Walker Park, Santa Maria, CA. Thumbs-up photo.

• Bib #NG: Did Not Start, race intentions vanquished by Sacramento summer heat. Photo of self not racing on 25th wedding anniversary spent in COVID-19 Shelter.

• Bib #KS: 1) Third’s the charm they say, so one more Scary Stir Crazy COVID look to scatter the few early birds! 2) Early morning 6:10 am start while most were still sheltering in place including the Coyote Course monitor who was no where to be seen either; 3) Just lonesome racer me; no staggered start needed! 4) Joe Berendt was the Race Director, Course Monitor, Timer, Lap Counter, Measurer, and Photographer who ensured I safely started, racewalked, completed the course in one hour, and that I didn’t disqualify myself! Conducted on wheel-measured course in Maidu Park, Roseville, CA. Photos of custom race bib and on course.

• Bib #BK: Wore a mask and maintained social distance on Bay Trail in Foster City, CA. I set a new PR! Joe Darcy was kind enough to pace me. That really helped out. I've definitely been peaking at the right time: I set a new PR at both the 5k and One Hour races! Photo of sock feet (after the 5,000 meter race walk).

• Bib #DD: I was the only one present on the Tektronix track in Beaverton, OR. I’m not crazy about the picture, but there you have it. Photo selfie at track.

• Bib #AD Post-race photo of Anthony Davis and Jon Price playing chess on the side yard, 11 July 2020.

• Bib#SP: I averaged 5.1 mph for the hour on the treadmill (30 minutes at 5.2 mph and 30 minutes at 5.0 mph.) After a 30-second penalty for a bent knee, I completed 8,137.5 meters in 59 minutes and 30

seconds. Photos… Catherine took these three late in the event this morning. The medals in the background of #3 are hers. Her awards include a silver medal in the 1.500-meter race walk at the last World Masters Games in Auckland, New Zealand in 2017. She is currently injured and couldn't compete in these events.

• Bib #AD, #BP, #JP: Stayed at least 2 meters from others (on Plumb Lane/Hunter Lake Drive to Idlewild Park in Reno, NV). Post-race photos of Bib #AD and Bib #JP playing chess on the side yard, and Bib #AD’s race watch display.

• Bib #JF: Completed race safely because there were only a couple people at the track for a short period, so needed mask for short period only. It is so hard to race by yourself especially going round and round the track. It was easy to space out at times. I can’t wait until COVID is under control and we can race again as a group. Photo of self at track and watch display.

• Bib #JB: Few other athletes on track at Al Patch Memorial Park, Vacaville, CA; NOTE I Power Walked, not Race Walked.

• Bib #CJ: I was able to get out for an hour walk and about halfway through I realized that I could use my time for the one hour postal. LOL. Better late than never, right? I was overdressed, should have brought water and didn't warm up, but hey, it's a time, right? I made it 9.25 KM. Photos of Garmin Connect screen shot of results and masked selfie.

• Bib #HS: Golden Gate Park, San Francisco (Start: JFK Dr./Conservatory of Flowers Finish: Great Highway). I started at sunrise to avoid people. It pretty much worked until I got to the Great Highway. I didn’t see any virtual judges on the course. Either it was too early or the San Francisco starting temperture of 52 degrees was too cold. Including two pictures – one with and one without mask.

• Bib #DS: I walked alone. Good workout. Second week back after four weeks off. There's a lot of work needed to get back into shape. Photos during workout and trackside.

• Bib #KdC: Walked alone, maintaining 6 feet distance or greater from others near the track. It was warm this morning and I should have started my race earlier :). But I got it done, didn’t quit though I was tiring at the end. I was shooting for 6400 m, but my alarm went off just shy of the goal. Photo of hydration after the race.

• Bib #TC: It was pretty quiet on the American River Parkway (roughly between Mile Markers 19 and 20), and I was able to safely distance

myself from runners and bicylists. It helped that I did a chunk of the distance on the adjacent parkway road where there was virtually no foot, bicycle, or vehicle traffic. I’m pleased to have it over with. No photo.

• Bib #FS: Warmed up first, tried to maintain proper technique, kept eyes looking ahead, wore a mask, told someone else where I was racing (on the Bay Trail, Foster City, CA). No photo.

• Bib #AP: I chose a route [in Setauket, NY – a somewhat flat route in the Strongs Neck neighborhood] where I knew few other people would be out walking in the street. In the hour, I only saw 6 other people on the street, and all of them were on the opposite side of the street. I also chose this route because it’s well shaded … but that might have been a disadvantage because the trees also blocked the evening breeze, so the humid somewhat stagnant air likely made for a slightly shorter distance than I was hoping to achieve. Photos of lap splits and route map where Point 1 marks the end of Lap 1 (and thus the start of the hour) and Point 2 marks the end of Lap 2 (and thus the end of the hour). I took some detours on the way back so that the start and end points would be about the same (and thus the elevation delta about zero). Start and stop for the workout was my front door. Also picture of me sitting in our front yard that my girlfriend took the following evening, before I went on a short bike ride to recover from this “race”.

• Bib #MG: Walked in the bike lane of a road [Carat Avenue, Reno, NV, elevation 4465 feet]. Photo on course and watch showing race result.

• Bib #SM: Walked on same course with Bib #MG. Photo on course. • Bib #TG: Wore a buff and made sure I had it on within 30 feet of

another person. Photo trackside at Witter Field Track in Piedmont, CA, with results on watch.

• Bib #GM: Started at 5:45 am at Grant Park Track, Portland OR. Covered 8,429m. Today was cool, cloudy and the track was empty. Actually happy with the effort. No photo.

• Bib #CM: Mask on, I walked the race on my usual neighborhood roads. I saw only about a half-dozen people out there during the entire hour and never came close to any of them. The virtual judges looked at my files and saw that the last time I received a bent-knee warning was during the Clinton administration; they looked at my form and realized that at this age, I couldn’t possibly get both feet off the ground at the same time; and they declared me wonderfully legal.

Before I set out, my wife photographed me giving virtual high-fives to the virtual fans.

• Bib #JD: On the track at Terremere Field at Sequoia High School in Redwood City, CA, mask on hand, social distancing as needed. Photos of stadium bleachers [Ed. Note: full of virtual crowds cheering], and race walking shoes on feet.

• Bib #AP: I went to the Novato High School Track early on a Sunday morning when it was not being used. No photo.

• Bib #RS & #NC: Stayed at least 2 meters away from others. Trails along the Alfred Harrell Hwy, The California Living Museum, Bakersfield, CA, were empty aside from us. We’re in a desert. Moping sun (110F) and VERY WINDY. Judging sheet: Clean but a hot mess. Comments: Normally I think I’m sugar because I’m so sweet but today I felt like a ice-cream because I was melting. Theme Song of the Day: Hot-Hot-Hot by Arrow. Photos post-race in the heat and sun.

• Bib #LM: I wore a mask for all of race and kept distant from other path users. It was not crowded. Most other walkers/runners wore masks. Long Beach only open for exercise. Photo of Strava race result.
