Extra Help & Re-teaching I will be available after school Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 3:15pm-4pm. If students are unable to meet with me during those times, we can arrange another time. If students have any questions or need help, they are strongly encouraged to come see me as often as they need. Student Progress SIS will usually be updated on Fridays. Students and parents are responsible for referring to SIS often in order to track student progress. Likewise it is their responsibility to bring to my attention any concerns or questions. I will contact parents through email or by phone during midterm and other grading periods if a student has a D grade or lower.

Late Work & Make-up Work Any assignments completed and turned in after the designated due date will be considered late. A 10% deduction in points will be subtracted for every day the assignment is late, but deduction will go no lower than 50% of the full points possible. Late work will not be accepted after the unit test. Every late assignment must be submitted with a late work slip. This late work slip includes the date the assignment was due, the date it was turned in, the reason the assignment was submitted late, and a signature from a parent. Without a parent’s signature, the assignment cannot be submitted. It is up to the parents’ discretion whether they want to sign a student’s late slip or not. It is the student’s responsibility to submit quality work on time. Students with excused absences will be given one more day in addition to the days they were absent to complete missed work. For example, if a student missed 2 calendar days of school, he or she would have 3 calendar days to complete the missed work. It is the student’s responsibility to ask about and collect missing assignments. Additionally, it is the student’s responsibility to get the missed notes and lesson information from a peer. Students who miss exams/quizzes will have one week to make them up, after school. If the student is unable to meet after school, he or she can arrange a different time with me.

Cheating and Plagiarism Any form of cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated. This includes copying work from peers, claiming another person’s work as your own, failing to cite another person’s work in your research, telling another student the answers to a test/quiz before he or she takes it, or being told test answers before taking a test. Any students found cheating will receive a “0” on the assignment and will not be allowed to make it up. Bullying and Sexual Harassment There is zero tolerance for bullying, hazing or sexual harassment in my classroom. If I find a student taking part in it, he or she will meet with me and/or administration. This will also include notifying parents of the occurrence. Depending on the severity of the situation, additional consequences will be exacted.

Tardiness A student is tardy if he or she is not in the assigned classroom, in his or her assigned seat when the late bell rings. If a student is tardy, he or she must sign their name on the Tardy Log, which is located next to the door. In general, tardiness will be handled on an individual basis with the teacher. If a student is chronically tardy then the student may be referred to the administration. Middle school students are allowed 3 tardies per class each quarter. Hall Pass When a student needs to use a hall pass, he or she does not have to bring it to my attention. Avoiding making in classroom distraction, the student will quietly fill out the Hall Pass Log, which can be found on my desk, and then use their 5 minutes (use restroom, get a drink, etc.). Only one student at a time can be out in the hall. If other students want to use their hall passes, they must wait until all other students have returned to class. Students will want to use Hall Pass as little as possible because excessive use will result in point deductions from citizenship.

Electronic Devices Students are not supposed to have electronic devices (cell phones, iPods, etc.) during school hours. Electronic devices must remain in students' lockers during school hours. If I see an electronic device on a student, I will confiscate it. A parent will be required to pick it up from the main office after school before it can be returned to a student.

Students will receive an index card with either the name of a US city or latitude/longitude coordinates for that city.

First, use your map to determine the location of your city, or the city that is connected to your coordinates.

Second, find the other person in class who has your matching coordinate or city.

Third, when you find the person how matches, you will set next to each other in desks.

For example, if my card has Boston, Massachusetts written on it, I will look on a map to see what the coordinates are for it. It’s coordinates are 42 degrees N and 71 degrees W. I would find the person who has those coordinates written on it. Then we would sit down next to each other in desks.

Chief Popopapakua

Chief of a Dakota tribe.   I married the sister of Chief Kanagashnaga of the Eastern Sioux tribe. She

is 10 years older than me, but by marrying her, I made a treaty with the her people. We have become wealthy by trading with each other. I don’t mind her being old, she is a great cook. She cooks antelope, deer and makes a mean buffalo stew. I think she adds buffalo milk for extra flavor.

We move around a lot, to follow the buffalo. My tepee is made from the largest buffalo my people have ever killed. I inherited it from my great-great-great grandfather who inherited from father-sky and mother-earth as a wedding gift.

The women tend to the maize, squash and beans while we men hunt buffalo and deer. I don’t hunt more since I am chief, but I have 10 warrior sons who are the pride of the tribe.
