The Three Wars
Battle of Spotsylvania:
This was considered the second major battle the Lt. General Grant
was involved in. It all started when Grant and his men were
crossing the Rapidan, they were suddenly ambushed by
Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. After two days of intense battle,
the casualties were about at 29,000. There was on ongoing battle
at Spotsylvania. Neither of the Union or Confederacy could gain
advantage. Lee was able to stop Grant from coming, but he could
not send him back. The battle continued on and in the end Grant
tried to lure Lee’s army into a trap near Hancock. However this
battle no one came to a win, it was inconclusive.
2nd Battle of Bull Run:
This battle was also called the Second Manassas, which was fought
during August 28~30. This battle involved two famous generals
John Pope and Robert E. Lee from the Confederacy. The scale of
the battle was much larger than the previous battle which was the
First Battle of Bull Run. “Stonewall” Jackson First toke lead by
capturing the Union’s food supply depot. This threatened Pope’s
line of communication making a hole to the Union force. Pope
retaliates and use a trap, and he is convinced that Pope had
trapped Jackson. The Confederacy came in with a large number of Soldiers at the battlefield. Pope was unaware of this and it caused
the Union left flank crushed by the enemy force. Pope was driven
back to Centerville. The Aftermath of this battle was about 10,000
Unions soldiers were killed and the Confederacy came victorious.
Siege if Vicksburg:
The Siege of Vicksburg was the final major military battle in the
Vicksburg Campaign. The two major commanders here was
Ulysses S. Grant from the Unions side and John C. Pemberton from
the Confederacy. With the Unions keep pushing westward they had
to get through Vicksburg. With two huge assaults against the
Confederacy forts, Grant decided that it was better to surround the
Fort. He was planning to wear out the Confederates. This caused
the soldiers who were inside the fort to have no foods supplies and
no reinforcement. They were able to hold the Union soldiers for
forty days, however having no choice they surrendered to the
Union in July 4th.

The Minority
Slaves
Many of the slaves already movedto the North and fought for theirfreedom, however there was alsoslaves in the South who wereforced to fight for the South. Thosewho enlisted to fight were not
treated well as the other soldiers. Also due to their lack of educationand less experience with handlingweapons it was difficult them. Theywere restricted highly restricted touse guns.
Women
Women just like slaves were notreally encouraged to fight. However they were some womenwho felt the passion to fight inthe Civil war and sometimes
they were women who woulddress up as a men to fight in thewar. They were also crafty andwere good workers, some alsoaided the injured soldiers.
Immigrants
Many immigrants were involved inthe Fight. Even some immigrantsserved as a General for somebattles. European immigrants
joined the Union in large numberssince many of them viewed slavery
very injustice. They were a big helpto the North. Majority of theimmigrants there came to Americasince the North needed workers. Now they served America andfought the Confederate.
Spies
Spies were a big role in this CivilWar. Information of the Opponentplan became very vital to botharmies in the field during the CivilWar. Units of spies and scoutsreported directly to thecommanders of armies in the field.
Their job was to find the strong and
weak point of the opposing force. However spies had to risk their lifein order to find these valuableinformations. If a suspect wasseized while in disguise and not inhis army's uniform, the sentencewas often to be hung. Sometimeswomen were very effective spies.

he Camp Life
amp life was not easy condition for soldiers to
ve in. Their house was tents and during the
inter it would get very cold. Meals were
ooked outside on the fire, and you could
escribe it a primitive way of living. 6 or 5 men
ould have to live in one tent, and space were
ot the big. Because food sometimes were
ooked outside it sometimes resulted food
oisoning and easy spread of bacteria. Overall
was not easy for soldiers to live in.

Thoma s (6Years)
Life on the Home Fronts. All residents, regardless of whether they became a part of
the Union effort, felt the repercussions of war. After
secession of the Southern states, many of the states went
through an economy shock. The North were doing fine
since they were more industrialize, however the South
were suffering after Egypt became another source of cottonto Europe. With the departure of men in uniform, farmers
faced labor shortages that increased wages for hired
hands. Consequently, the increased demand for agricultural
products led to a boom in the mechanization of farming.
However soldiers still felt that each on of their home might
need their help and some deserted.

Effects of the War
There are many things that havehappened after the War. The first main
event would be the assignation of
President Lincoln. There were many
conspiracy going on before, and during a
theater act, William Booth one of the
actors assassinated President Lincoln. This
showed that people were still not satisfied
with the two state uniting together.
The second was many families were
separated due to the war. This caused
massive chaos and confusion. This led
people to migrate around other states.
They were also a huge number of Norther
state people who moved towards South for
a new start, since South had good lands. ‘
Third the obvious South and North
were united together and slaves were
freed man. This was probably the biggest
solution to the Civil War problem. However
South uniting with the North will cause the
economy to go down since the North will
have to support the pretty-beat-down
Southern states after the war.
Reconstruction
After the war, Lincoln had a big
problem and it was to reconstruct both
North and South. Both Presidents Lincoln
and Johnson favored a lenient approach to
reconstruction. It was their belief that the
nation would be better off by leaving the
past memory of the Civil War behind
quickly.
Radical Republicans, led by
Thadeaus Stevens, argued that the South
should be punished for starting the Civil
War. Eventually, the arguments between
both side would lead to an attempt to
impeach and remove President Johnson.
Although the official reason for the
impeachment of Johnson was his violation
in an act.
Leaving this behind the main reasonfor Reconstruction was to prevent invasionfrom a foreign country. Lincoln did fear thaif they showed too much weakness afterthe Civl War. Action had to be taken andthey needed to rebuild their nation back toone piece. However, the argumentsbetween the Radical Republicans caused adelay to the reconstruction. They had to
rebuild their country.
