DEADLINE FOR ALL SUBMISSIONS TO THE
EDITOR IS THE 25TH OF THE CURRENT
MONTH FOR NEXT MONTH’S PUBLICATION
2
It's getting close to that time of year. The start of fall and the annual show on Sat-
urday, September 19th at the Buker Community Center in Augusta. It’s always in-
teresting to see what folks have been working on. I hope everyone plans on attend-
ing. Submit a piece for competition or find some inspiration for your next project,
resupply at MDI or at one of our other vendors, reconnect with other woodcarvers
from across the state, or volunteer some of your time. Help is always needed for
set-up (starting at noon on Friday), Security, Admissions, and Wood'N'Things.
Volunteers are the heart of the Association and it takes many hands to make the
show work. Please bring something for the raffle table or convert some of your un-
used items into cash at the Wood'N'Things table.
I'd like to welcome two new Chapters (non-voting ) to the MWCA. If your down
near the southern boarder check out the meeting times for the Seacoast Carvers and
drop by the Woodcraft store and say hello. If your near Sebago Lake, check out
“The Gang” and help Norm come up with a better name for his gathering. (Just
kidding). If anyone knows of any other groups who are meeting and want to be
part of the MWCA send me an email or give me a call.
In this newsletter you will find a ballot with two options for delivery of the news-
letter. One option is to go to email for the newsletter only, the other is to set up a
two tier membership dues (less if you choose to receive the newsletter via email,
and more if you wish to receive it by regular mail). I realize this is not a popular
subject, but something has to be done to address the negative cash flow that we
currently have. (It costs more to print and mail the newsletter than the current
membership dues.)
Bob Perry has stepped down as the Head of the Seminar Committee . As anyone
who has attended one of the past seminars can tell you, Bob has done an excellent
job scheduling some top notch instructors. Thank you for your time and effort,
Bob. If anyone is interested in serving on the Seminar Committee, please get in
touch. We are also still looking for a Curator of Birds so if you have some unused
space and want to put it to a good use, let me know.

Membership Dues. It currently costs more than the $20.00 membership fee
to produce and mail out the monthly newsletter. Every-
one is aware of what happens when you have more
money going out then what is coming in. This was dis-
cussed at the Annual Meeting. Two options were ap-
proved by the Board of Directors to be sent to the
membership for a vote.
If Option 1 is selected, the newsletter will be sent out
by email only.
If Option 2 is selected, Members may decide to have
the newsletter sent by Email or Regular mail, with a
difference in Membership dues.
This is always an unpopular subject. The price of post-
age and printing has increased and will undoubtedly
continue to increase. If we were to leave the member-
ship dues as they are, the Association would soon run
out of funds and there would be no newsletter or Asso-
ciation. Please select Option 1 or 2 on the ballot below
and return to the Secretary of the Maine Wood Carvers
by September 10th at the address below.
Justina Hatch
71 Packard Rd

Option 1: Newsletter will be sent by Email Only, Dues $20.00 per individual membership, $33.50
for family membership, $15.00 for junior member, age 12-16.
Option 2: Newsletter will be sent by Choice of Email or Regular mail.
Email , Dues $15.00 per individual membership, $25.00 for family membership, $10.00 for junior
member, age 12-16.
Regular Mail: Dues $30.00 per individual membership, $40.00 for family membership, $20.00 for
junior member, age 12-16.

Greetings to you all.
Allow me to introduce myself to you. I am new to
Wood Carving as well as to the group (just a tad
over 1 year). I have done some wood carving, and
like it, but I thoroughly enjoy pyrography. Over this
years time, I have been fortunate enough to have
met some very talented folks. WOW! I have seen
some truly amazing work that you have produced.
.
A need arose for an editor for this newsletter, so
realizing the importance of communication and
the submission of current information to a group
this size was vital, I thought that I would give it a
try.
To move on...this newsletter is not about me but
about YOU. To keep this newsletter informative
and interesting I will need your help. Please send
me current information, events or classes/seminars
that your club is sponsoring. Pictures and stories
will also be welcomed.
My interest is in seeing this Association grow and
develop. Having said this, I neither have the time
nor the desire to entertain negative criticisms, how-
ever I will gladly welcome constructive suggestions
with workable solutions.
THIS IS YOUR NEWSLETTER……..PLEASE HELP TO
MAKE IT WORK!!!

Hello Everyone!
The Top of Maine Carvers meet every last Thursday of the month @ 6:00 p.m. at the Artist Nook on Summit Street and all are wel-come to join us.
Our carving competition held in July is done for another year. We had a wonderful show of carvings and paintings. We were especially pleased to see Jim Irish, Chuck Friis and Bob Grimm at our show. They are so talented and we love to include the piec-es they bring with them. And-of course-- we love having these guys around!
Our featured artist this year was Tom Cote.
Bob Grimm took both Best of Show for his three fish entry and People's Choice for his partridge.
Our youth competitors were Kennedy Bensivenga, Abigail Wim-mer, Audrey Wimmer and Kaylee Bensivenga, who is our young-est entrant. They entered carvings, paintings and wood burn-ings. They showed remarkable talent and we want them to know that we appreciate their participation and are very proud of them.
And last but not least, we want to thank all entrants young and old, winner or not for your entries to our competition. They were all wonderful and special and we do appreciate them.
Once again a special thank you to Shawn Bugsby and Seven Is-land Company for letting us make use of the Forestry Building to hold our competition in. Also, a thank you to the Northern Maine Fairground Committee for all their help. Very much ap-preciated.
We are already looking forward to next year.
Well….That’s it for now. Happy Carving everyone…
MWCA CHAPTER REPORTS
POLAND SPRING CARVERS
Submitted by Stanley Tanner
The Secretary’s Tale of the 15 August 2015
Meeting of the Poland Spring Carvers
The bizness meetin was called to attention at
1pm (On time this time!) by Commandant
(Ooops, President) Robert Grimm.
The Secretary’s Tale of the previous meeting
was read (Interrupted by the formal seating of
Charles Friis), then seconded and approved
(with one opposed).
The Treasurer’s Report was given. Moved
and seconded to approve, with one opposed,
due to the suspicious nature of the report.
OLD BIZ: The smiling Robert Grimm reported
that his carving of the three fish (not the three
blind mice) was awarded Best of Show and
the People’s Choice at the Top O’ Maine
show. (The rest of us were completely dis-
couraged, and vowed never to enter a com-
petition with him again.)
NEW BIZ:REMINDER … REMINDER … RE-
MINDER … The Maine Woodcarvers Show is
coming to Augusta on 19 September. Set up
will be the afternoon of the 18th, all available
personnel are asked to assist. Since this is the
date when we would regularly meet, that
meeting is canceled in favor of the show,
though we expect to meet there in an informal
basis.
SECOND REMINDER … the Camp and Carve
will be held 11 September. For more infor-
mation, please contact Bob Perry.
THIRD REMINDER … a repeat of the voting on
the email newsletter, pending the arrival of the
ballot in the next print newsletter.
Adjournment was moved, seconded several
times, and carried at 1:18pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Stanley Tanner, Secretary
