Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project.

Services started in May 2019 in the city’s North West with a train every four minutes in the peak. Metro rail will be extended into the CBD and beyond to Bankstown in 2024. There will be new CBD metro railway stations at Martin Place, Pitt Street and Barangaroo and new metro platforms at Central.

In 2024, Sydney will have 31 metro railway stations and a 66 km standalone metro railway system. There will be ultimate capacity for a metro train every two minutes in each direction under the Sydney city centre.

John Holland CPB Ghella (JHCPBG) is building the 15.5 kilometre long twin railway tunnels between Chatswood and Sydenham and excavating six new metro stations.

Upcoming work at Marrickville dive site The Marrickville dive site will cease tunnel boring machine operations in late December when the two tunnel boring machines, Nancy and Mum Shirl reach Barangaroo. The dive site and precast facility teams will start to remove the tunnelling support infrastructure and begin construction of the metro stabling yard area.

Location Work during standard hours (Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and Saturday between 8am and 1pm)

• Concrete demolition work (various locations) within the dive site and precast facility involving saw cutting, jack hammering and excavation activities.

the dive site near Edinburgh Road, involving saw cutting, jackhammering and excavation activities.

Sydney Steel Road, Edinburgh Road and Railway Parade

Work during standard hours (Monday to Friday between 7am and 6pm and Saturday between 8am and 1pm)

• Utility investigation work within the footpath and roadway, involving saw cutting, jackhammering and excavation activities.

• Tree and vegetation clearing to prepare for future drainage upgrade work near the site boundary in January 2020.

What to expect • Temporary traffic and pedestrian changes will be required including lane and footpath closures around work

areas. Traffic control and directional signage will be in place for the safety of workers and the community. • Concrete finishing and cleaning work may be required outside standard construction hours on some

occasions, involving a high pressure hose, small crane, excavator and concrete truck. • There will be increased heavy vehicle movements at the Railway Parade site access gate adjacent to the rail

corridor. • Truck movements and deliveries to and from the sites may occur outside standard construction hours. • Equipment used at the dive site and precast facility will include excavators, a piling rig, cranes, tunnel

conveyor, forklift, heavy vehicles, a road sweeper, concrete truck and pump. • There will be intermittent periods of noisy work during standard construction hours. The project team will limit

noise impacts where possible by using non-tonal reversing beepers and turning off equipment when not in use.

The Marrickville dive site and precast facility will shut down over the holidays from Friday 20 December 2019 until Sunday 5 January 2020. Security will patrol the site with occasional maintenance activities undertaken during this period. You can contact us on 1800 171 386 with any issues. Work will resume at 7am on Monday 6 January 2020. We wish all our neighbours a safe and happy festive season.
