Memory Matters began almost 20 years ago at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. A small group of
compassionate people realized that our community needed to offer support, respite care, and resources
to families dealing with the devastation of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of
dementia. Alzheimer’s Respite & Resource, now Memory Matters, can now help even more families
since moving into our own facility in December of 2009. Our state of the art building allows us to offer
dementia specific programs 5 days a week, support groups most days of the week, and resources for
families from early diagnosis to end stages. Memory Matters has been recognized nationally by the
PGA, earning non-profit of the year in 2013, the subject of programs on both PBS and HBO, and
recognized by the State of South Carolina as an “Angel Charity” because over .91 if every dollar donated
goes back into programing. For more information call (843)842-6688 or visit our website at
www.memory-matters.org. Cathee Stegall is one of the program directors at Memory Matters, she has been with the organization
since 2006. Using her background in art and education she creates innovative programing for
Alzheimer’s and dementia care at Memory Matters. Cathee is a Qualified Dementia Care Specialist and a
member of the Dementia Care Professionals of America. “ It truly is my calling to meet the needs that
daily walk in the Memory Matters door and give as much care and compassion as possible.” – Cathee
Stegall

TODAY
AN APPLE FOR THE TEACHER! Thank you so much for your overwhelming response to our “apple for the teacher” program. There are drop off boxes for your purchased items at all church doors as well as the church office, please be sure to attach the apple tag so that we can deliver the items to the individual classrooms. Almost all the “apples” are gone but a few remain. If you didn’t get a chance to pick up an “apple”, please either drop by the church office during the week or pick one up from the baskets after Sunday services. Remember, this is a children’ ministry for us here at St. Luke’s… Thank you again for your generosity! “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Luke 18:15
UPCOMING
COME JOIN THE ACOLYTE MINISTRY! This in an invitation to all St. Luke’s youth ages 10 and older (elementary, middle and high school students). Acolytes assist the clergy in the worship service by carrying Processional Cross, lighting and extinguishing the altar’s candles, collecting the offering plates, and assisting the Celebrant in preparing the Communion table. If you are interested in being part of this special ministry please join us on Tuesday, August 18 at 4:30 p.m. in the sanctuary for training. For any questions regarding the Acolyte Ministry, please contact Juliana Martel, email [email protected] or call her at 384-8208.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE: The staff, Vestry and Capital Campaign Committee
continue our gratitude for all the wonderful support that
continues with the receipt of your pledges. All pledges are a
blessing to the St. Luke’s Church vision for doing the work
needed for our church campus to serve our next fifty years. If
you have not yet pledged, it is not late and we welcome your
participation. Pledge cards are still available at the church
office if you have misplaced yours or you can visit the campaign website at
www.stlukesnext50.org to pledge or donate. Your completed pledge cards can be added to
the offering plate on Sunday or sent to the Church office. As our milestone was successfully
exceeded by the “DO THE WORK” Sunday, the St. Luke’s Building Committee is busy doing
their job moving the project forward. Thank you again to everyone for your prayers and
support of this important St. Luke’s initiative.
BAGS NEEDED! The Church Mouse is in need of shopping bags. Paper or plastic bags are appreciated. You can drop them off at the Church Mouse or leave them in the Ministry Center.
