-Born: Larry Page and Sergey Brin met at Stanford

University in 1995. By 1996, they had built a search engine

(initially called BackRub) that used links to determine the

importance of individual web pages.

-Greater than 40,000 Googlers behind the tools that you use

every day—from search to Chrome.

-Locations: Today Google has more than 70 offices in more

than 40 countries around the globe.

comfortable sharing ideas and opinions.

UN Global Compact

Under the “Responsible Manufacturing” sector of Google’s Code of Conduct the company has clearly

represented how their business guidelines correspond with 10 Principles within UN Global Compact.

UN Global Compact (Principle 1):

"Businesses should support and respect the

protection of internationally proclaimed human

rights."

Google’s Correspondence: “Google is

committed to upholding the human rights of

workers and to treating them with dignity and

respect as understood by the international

community. This applies to all workers...”

UN Global Compact (Principle 5):

“...the effective abolition of child labour…”

Google’s Correspondence: “Supplier will not use

child labor in any stage of its manufacturing. The

term “child” refers to any person under the age of

15 (or 14 where the law of the country permits), or

under the age for completing compulsory

education, or under the minimum age for

employment in the country, whichever is greatest.”

Sustainability: Economic/ Environment

“Google recognizes that environmental responsibility is integral to producing world-class products. In

manufacturing operations, Supplier will minimize adverse effects on the community, environment and natural

resources while safeguarding the health and safety of the public.”

Google outlines its process of sustainability in a series of the following 8 steps:

ended June 30, 2014 were $15.96 billion,

representing a 22% increase over second

quarter of 2013 revenues of $13.11 billion.
