Pathway Aims (HND Business Pathways only)LawThis pathway considers the English legal system, business law, common law and European Law. It includes further common law principles developed from the year 1 common law module, the impact of European Union legislation and focuses on legislation specifically relating to Business. Students will develop and apply the knowledge and understanding of the connections between Law related specialist areas and the wider world of business. FinanceThis pathway will give learners an appreciation of financial planning and constraints. It will cover the collection and analysis of cost data for management purposes, budgetary planning and control, the preparation of financial statements for different types of business and legal and regulatory provisions, the accounting and management control systems of a business and an evaluation of their effectiveness, and the taxation of individuals and limited companies.MarketingThis pathway gives an overview of the marketing and opportunities to creatively engage with marketing. It will consider the structure of the marketing industry and the relationship between marketing strategy, communication and consumption. Teaching/LearningTransferable skills will be taught as an integral part of all modules. These skills are considered essential in developing an individual’s personal effectiveness and the necessary academic skills required to undertake this programme of study.

17 Programme Structures and Requirements, Levels, Modules, Credits and AwardsThe HNC Business and HND Business (Pathways) programmes are validated by the University of Kent and delivered by Canterbury College.The HND Business (Pathways) programmes are studied over 24 months full-time (240 credits) or 48 months Part Time. The HNC Business programme is studied over 12 months full time (120 Credits) and 24 months part time. The Higher National Diploma in Business (Pathways) programmes are 16 module qualifications, all modules are core and mandatory. Each pathway has 4 specialist modules that must be completed in order to gain the pathway title. Each HND Business pathway programme must contain a minimum of nine modules designated at level 5.Pathways available are: Marketing, Law, Finance, Digital Business, Retail Management and Human Resources Management.The Higher National Certificate in Business is an eight module qualification all modules are core and mandatory. The HNC must contain a minimum of six modules designated at level 4. The HNC award is designed as fall back award for students who do not complete the full HND.Each module is valued at 15 credits at level 4 or level 5. One credit corresponds to approximately ten hours of 'learning time' (including all classes, private study and research). Obtaining 120 credits in an academic year requires 1,200 hours of overall learning time.
