MARY LANZI CAMPERSHIPS

Attention Key Leaders!!

4-H Camp is fast approaching! Each 4-H Club will have one Council campership for summer camp, plus there are two Mary Lanzi countywide camperships. You may select a recipient for your club and also submit a nomi-nee for the countywide camperships. Camperships are for any youth in 4th - 8th grades (use grade entering) who represent an under-represented minority, are handi-capped or from low income families. They do not have to be current 4-H members, but enrollment in the 4-H program must be completed prior to attending camp. Camp is June 21-24, 2012. Key leaders please submit names to the 4-H Office. If we don’t hear from you by April 2, 2012, we will assume your club does not have any recipients this year.

4-H/FFA/Junior Grange

Membership Clarified

When a member maintains projects in 4-H, FFA and Junior Grange, the projects may not be in the

same kind of livestock or crop.

A member of an FFA chapter, Junior Grange or 4-H club may transfer projects from one organization to

another only ONCE during a calendar year.

To be able to show a project at a fair or show, it must be under the supervision of the organization under which it will be shown for at least 60 days prior to the fair or show (120 days for a market

beef.)

The complete agreement is available at the 4-H Of-

fice.

All Market Animals Entered In The

Fair Must Have A Bill Of Sale

This year, the Department of Food and Agriculture will be enforcing this policy. At the time you enter your market animals, you must attach a bill of sale for each animal to your entry form. If you have questions, please contact the 4-

H Office or Glenn County Fair Office at 865-1168.

Willows Elks Lodge Spaghetti Dinner

Willows Elks Lodge is once again putting on a spaghet-ti dinner as a money making project for the Glenn

County 4-H. The dinner is planned for Saturday, April

21, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. 4-H is asked to sell tickets, donate cookies (homemade or from the store) and volunteer servers and table cleaners. We will start out with 150 tickets, and if we find we need more tick-ets, more can be made. Dinner

tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children (under 12 years). This year, a couple of tables can be available in the Elks dinning hall if a group or project wishes to have a dessert table or some kind of money making ta-ble. Only one group can take up the space, so “first to respond gets the space”. Call Cicely Stafford, 934-5813, or contact a leader or key leader if interested. When selling dinner tickets turn in your money as soon as possible. This way we know if we need to print more tickets. You may turn money into the 4-H Office, give to your key leader or if in Willows you can give to Cic-ely Stafford. Let’s make this affair a great success so the Elks Lodge will put on the dinner for us again next year. Sell tickets so we can print off more tickets in time to sell more. All proceeds go to the Glenn County 4-H and will be used to enhance our 4-H program. More information will be available at the next Council meeting and from your club leaders. Sorry the dinner didn’t happen in the fall as usual. Feedback as to when you would like next year’s Elks/4-H spaghetti dinner

would be appreciated. All requests will be considered.

Helpful Hints & Changes

For Your Buyers’ Letters Each 4-H member that plans to sell an animal through the Jr. Livestock Auction at the Glenn County Fair is to send out buyer’s letters to prospec-tive buyers. The prospective buyers can range from your local feed store, veterinarian, grocery store, dentist, doctor, orthodontist, car/tractor dealerships, auto parts store, personal friend, parents’ place of work, etc. It can be anyone that you or your family knows or does business with. Be creative, the goal is

to bring new buyers to the auction each year.

You can explain in your letters that buyers do not have to purchase a whole animal, they may go in with one or more other people. Perhaps they are not interested in butchering the animal, but would like to help support the program. There is an option of re-sale available. What is resale? This is where the ani-mal is purchased by a buyer, but at the time of pur-chase, if they note that they want the animal to go for resale, the buyer will be given market price for that specific animal and then the resale amount will be deducted from the amount that your buyer will

have to pay for the animal.

ATTENTION!

Glenn County Fair

Entry Deadline is Coming Soon The deadline for entry forms at the fair is Thursday,

2012 State Fashion Revue News

The State 4-H Fashion Revue committee announces cat-egories and service projects for 2012! Entry categories returning from 2011 will be Traditional, Consumer Sci-ence Purchased (with $100 limit), and Wearable Art-Embellished. The Recycled category will not be offered at State Fashion Revue for 2012; counties may choose to include it at local events only. The $15 Challenge was so popular in 2011, it will become the $19.99 Chal-lenge for 2012. It has the same rules (shoes and sales tax don’t count, receipts required) but the limit is in-creased to $19.99 to allow more creativity. We are add-ing a second challenge, called the Bag Up Fashion Challenge. Sew a tote bag from Simplicity #7161, view A only, and model it with a garment or garments that coordinate with the tote bag. SFR will be coordinating two service projects. The Quilts for Wounded Warriors is returning because the American Legion needs more quilts. Statewide, 4-H created sixty quilts in 2011. We look forward to even more in 2012. Our second service activity is the Million Pillowcase Project, for handmade or decorated pillowcases. If you, your project, or your county would like more information about SFR, these categories and service projects, or would like to join our committee, please visit our website at http://www.ca4h.org/Programs/Events/SFR/ .

4-H Hat Information

Achievement pins are fastened to the service stripes, starting with the first-year pin next to the 4-H clover. The

All-Star pin should be fastened to the center of the All-Star emblem. Medals may be worn on either side of the

cap, but not too many of them. No other

pins or ribbons should be worn on the

cap. The cap should reflect the dignity

of 4-H Club work, and not be cheapened

by fastening to it every emblem, award,

and ribbon won by the wearer. Keep

wear it with the full uniform.
