Acids

• Segregate from reactive metals

• Keep oxidizing acids (such as HNO3, HClO4, HClO3, H2CrO4, H2SO4) separated from organic acids

• HNO3 and HCl may be stored in the same cabinet but in separate trays

• Segregate from chemicals that could generate toxic or flammable gases upon contact, such as NaCN, FeS and CaC2

SEPARATE BY HAZARD

Bases

• Segregate from metals, organic peroxides and acids

• Do not store aqueous KOH or NaOH in aluminum drip trays

Flammable Liquids

• Segregate from oxidizing acids and oxidizers

• Keep away from ignition sources

Cyanides

• Segregate from aqueous solutions, acids, oxidizers

Pyrophoric substances

• Before opening, store in a cool dry place, closed tightly

• Once opened, store under inert atmosphere

Light-sensitive chemicals

• Store in amber bottles in a cool, dry, dark place

Peroxide formers

• Store in flammable-storage cabinets
