Loretta is a tough lady. She is one of the representative characters of uninsured people in US.

Authors sered and Fernandopulle have interviewed 120 men and women to conduct a research

regarding the health insurance. Loretta is one of them and says “I’ve gotten toothaches so bad, so

that I just literally pull my own teeth. They’ll break off after a while, and then you just grab a

hold of them, and they work their way out”. If she was from any other developed nation, she

couldn’t have to go through that pain. This story of Loretta is only a case. There are 48.6 million

Americans who are uninsured and facing the same kind of problems. US is the only developed

nation that doesn’t provide Universal healthcare to all the citizens. US spent $2.6 billion in

healthcare in 2010 (18% of GDP) more than any other country in the world in healthcare.

According to WHO, US ranked on 37 out of 190 countries in health plan system and on 72 in

heath performance. Statistics shows that US spends more than twice as much per person than

other countries does but more than twenty thousand people die each year due to medical

condition which could be treated if they could have afford to see the doctor. Hundreds of

thousands of people go bankrupt every year because of the medical bill. Thesis sentence

The United States is considered as one of the most developed country in the world with the

largest economy, military, democracy. Medical facilities in US have the most advanced

technologies, medications, and services. People come to see the doctors and it’s facilities from

all over the world. But still why we are lagging behind in the healthcare system? Most of the

pioneer and intellectual people like researcher, scientists, doctors, economists; policy makers,

businessman and leaders are working to improve the healthcare system in US. So, what can be

done to solve this problem and get healthcare to all the Americans? How the healthcare system in

other countries is feasible to the people spending less money than in US? Other developed

countries like Japan, France, Italy, Spain, Canada, UK has got the universal health care. Is the

implementation of Universal, comprehensive, organized and public Healthcare system which

covers the medical necessities, doctor visit, hospital, long-term care, dental, vision and other

costs, a solution for the US healthcare?

The limitation of current system is that many middle class people cannot afford insurance

coverage and end up not getting proper medical attention. In fact, Americans spend less money

on primary basic needs (housing and food) than on health care. So, why the policy makers didn’t

choose the universal healthcare system/other in US yet? What does the American people think

about the Universal Healthcare?

Universal health care, also known as social health protection would cover the millions of

Americans who are currently living without any health coverage. It tries to accomplish three

goals: provide financial risk protection, improve access to health services, and improve health

outcomes. With this system, Americans who are suffering now would have the necessary access

to health services that would then improve their overall health. A universal health care system is

desperately needed for our country. Though it is the greatest health care system that our country

could have, it does not imply coverage for all people for everything. The key point to note here is

that everything is not covered in this system.

Most of the Americans think that the universal healthcare system is a socialist idea, which is

good theoretically but not practically. One sixth of the population is uninsured now. So, what the

government is planning for the uninsured people. Americans think that it increases the taxes and

cost more for average people and it is not free as it is paid through taxes. The Universal

healthcare system will lead to poor patient care and reduce doctor flexibility and need to wait a

long time for treatment. So, What does the Americans really think about the current and

universal healthcare system?

So, with the same cost spend on health care, if all the Americans get access to the medical

facilities, doctor’s visits and other services, why not to choose the universal healthcare system

like the other developed nations? What does the policy makers and the general people think

about changing the current healthcare system to Universal healthcare?
