United States History Course Syllabus Mr. Lawrence Course Description : This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the economic, geographical, political and social changes as well as the events and people of the United States from approximately 1750 to the present. In accordance with the California Standards, students will learn concepts, dates, locations and cause and effect relationships that have shaped the history of the United States from its beginnings to today. United States History Course Syllabus Mr. Lawrence

Course Description: This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of the economic, geographical, political and social changes as well as the events and people of the United States from approximately 1750 to the present. In accordance with the California Standards, students will learn concepts, dates, locations and cause and effect relationships that have shaped the history of the United States from its beginnings to today.

Grade Level: Eleventh Grade

Textbook: The American Vision (Modern Times), McGraw-Hill, Glencoe. 2006.

Books are required to have book covers on at all times once they have been issued. Replacement cost for textbooks is $68.00.

Student Materials Required Every Class Period:

3-Ring Binder

Black ink pen

Pencil

Covered Textbook

Grading and Assessment: All classwork, homework, quizzes, tests, papers and projects are assigned points. Grades are based on the following points scale:

90-100% = A

80-89% = B

70-79% = C

60-69% = D

Below 60% = F

* No grades will be changed at the end of the grading period to accommodate parent or student requests!!

Attendance: School attendance policies will be followed for absences, cuts and tardies.

Binder Requirements:

Binder paper must be used to take notes, (no spiral binders).

Binders must have 4 sections:

1) Vocabulary

2) Homework/Handouts

3) Tests/Quizzes

4) Notes

Binders must have tabs for each section which extend beyond classwork.

Binders will be collected twice per semester, (once each quarter).

Course Description: This course is designed to provide students with an understanding of world events and cultures regarding economic, geographical, political and social changes that have taken place in the modern era from 1700 to the present. In accordance with the California Standards, students will learn concepts, dates, locations and cause and effect relationships that have shaped the history of the World from the beginning of the 18th century to today.

Grade Level: Tenth Grade

Textbook: World History (The Modern World), Pearson-Prentice Hall. 2006.

Books are required to have book covers on at all times once they have been issued. Replacement cost for textbooks is $63.00.

A.P. UNITED STATES HISTORY

Mr. Lawrence

2014-2015

Course Description: This one year (two-semester) college credit course is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to deal critically with the problems and materials in U.S. history and be prepared for college-level courses. This survey course includes extensive chronological and thematic coverage and readings on a broad variety of topics in such areas as economic history, cultural and intellectual history, social history and political-constitutional and diplomatic history. Through reading assignments and writing exercises, the students will learn to draw upon a reservoir of factual knowledge in order to exercise analytical skills intelligently and prepare them to successfully complete the AP exam administered in May. A score of 3 or higher on the A.P. Exam will earn college credit at most colleges and universities. To receive full credit in the course students will be required to take the A.P. Exam. Students attend 88 minute block classes every other day and are required to complete assignments during summer, winter, and spring breaks. Upon successful completion of this UC/CSU approved course, students will earn ten credits. An extra grade point/honors credit will be awarded if the AP Exam is taken in May.
