President's Report

Our May 18th Come Together Be Together at Trinity United Methodist Church Spartanburg wasfun, fun and more fun. “Sisterhood of Grace: Celebrating 150 Years in Mission” brought ladies from everydistrict together. Wearing shades of green and clothing typical of specific decades added to the fun of theday. Thank you to Spartanburg District Superintendent Rev. Cathy Mitchell for sharing her message and lovewith us. Collections for Arch Ministry provided us a way to leave a little of our love in Spartanburg. Thank youworkshop leaders and our hard working Membership Nurture and Outreach Committee. Keeping with tradition of prior years, our Mission u July 18-20 was wonderful. It is my favorite event all yearlong. I enjoy the study books, learning in class and group settings, seeing familiar friends from across ourconference and making new friends. The campus staff of Spartanburg Methodist College welcome us andstrive to meet all our needs. Our theme was “Radical Disciples Then and Now”. Learning together in EllisAuditorium with Rev. Angela Nelson was a time for personal sharing, dissecting the message and growingspiritually through the study of The Gospel of Mark and Radical Discipleship. Our study Women United forChange, 150 Years in Mission is perfect in this our 150th year in mission. You will want this book in yourpersonal library. We had 13 youth on campus, along with 30 first timers. Our Bishop and Mrs. Holstonvisited us, shopped the Craft Room and gave support through word and prayer. Bishop, we are inspired byyour constant encouragement and attention, even when juggling a very full and busy schedule. The entireMission u committee and instructors all did a superb job. Thank you everyone. Be sure to put Mission u onyour calendar for July 16-18, 2020. It will be great! Our four mission projects need your support. It is important that we help them find a way to serve those inneed in their communities. Our Mission u Craft Room raised $901.50 shared with our four mission projects. They also raised $170 for Ronald McDonald House. Thank you to everyone who donated crafts andshopped for items. Several districts have held fundraisers for mission projects near them. Thank you. This isa continuing need. You can make the difference in lives of so many through your prayers, your financialgifts, your donations and your service. It falls to me. It falls to you. Let us all do our part to ensure the future ofour SC mission projects Bethlehem Center, Spartanburg, Columbia Bethlehem CommunityCenter, Kilingsworth, and Wallace Family Life Center. Thanks be to God. In peace and with prayer, Cathy Ford SCCUMW President

Spiritual Growth

What an honor these last two years have been for me

to serve you as the SCCUMW Spiritual Growth

Coordinator.  I have enjoyed meeting so many ladies

at our UMW events and feel extremely fortunate to

have had this experience.  I am looking forward to

future events and continuing my spiritual journey as a

mighty Methodist woman.

Spiritual Growth Coordinator

Caron Cooper

Moving forward, I leave with fond memories of my time on the Executive

team.    I pray that you will continue to support the leadership of the

Conference and District team leaders.  These hard working ladies are doing

their best to keep you informed and involved in our church, nation and world

issues.

We must educate ourselves about happenings around us.  We must take action

when we can and be in prayer for those who are considered “less than.” Our

nation and world face issues such as human trafficking, suicide, mass

shootings, racial inequality, climate change, division of our country, and the

many more “hot topic” issues that we may struggle with. How discouraged we

can get! But we must look to God, listen for His guidance, read the words of

Jesus and then do our best to do as He has instructed. It is an old tagline,

WWJD, but it will always be current.  Ask yourself WWJD when you listen to

others with opposing views, watch the news or are forced to react to a difficult

situation.  We are all “practicing” Christians.  Though we may never achieve

perfection, we must continue to strive to live our lives in a manner that would

be in line with Christ’s teachings.

My prayer for you, my sisters, is that you feel God’s presence and guidance

during the wonderful and the difficult times in your lives.  Caron Cooper

Education & InterpretationGreeting Ladies, It’s amazing how time flies when you are having fun and being busy doing the work of the Lord by beingmissional – helping, leading and caring for His people. I want to thank you for the great work that has beendone throughout 2019! We have reached some milestones in our reaching out and helping others. Thestruggles continue for some and a lot of uncertainty linger for others, but with our continued support andprayers, resolutions will come. I especially want to thank you for all of the items that you provided for theCraft Room at Mission U. This year’s overall attendance was lower than it had been in previous years andwe expected that it would make a big impact, but you graciously gave, and the ladies came and bought itemsand made the Craft Room a success for another year! We also sold 20 bracelets that were madefrom the colored tabs. These bracelets help to pay for families to stay at the Ronald McDonald House andbe close to a sick child. The offering that was received on Saturday will be divided between the missionprojects. So, once again, great job! All of your efforts and gifts touch and change many lives! Let’scontinue doing this wonderful work! Special thanks to the ladies who assisted in the Craft Room with the selling and the packing up at the closingas well as to the ladies who trimmed stamps and even took stamps home with them to trim. To all of theunits who brought stamps, new and used, gift cards, etc., thank you! A special note for all District E&I Coordinators: Please send your Mission Today informationto me by the 15th of September. This will ensure that we have it in time to place it in the program bookat the Annual Meeting. I hope you are making plans to attend the 47th SC Conference Annual Meeting onOctober 25-26 at Buncombe St. UMC in Greenville, SC. We will need your assistance onceagain to trim stamps. Also, remember that we are putting special emphasis on this Annual Meeting as wecontinue to celebrate our 150 years of service. Please remember the gift cards for the four Mission Projects. Killingsworth has had a very unusual spring and summer. The Board continues to be busy with overseeingthe business of our ministry supporting and raising funds for our mission. Great news! With the help ofmatching funds at $10,000 we totaled our Midlands Gives on May 1 at almost $19,000. We want to send abig thank you to those who contributed to Midlands Gives on our behalf. On Monday, May 13th, golfersgathered at the Oak Hills Golf Club for the 27th Annual Golf Tournament. The event was enjoyed by allwho participated. Without the support of our Board and United Methodist Women, this event would nothave been a success. Many thanks to all who worked hard on the tournament to ensure its success. Without an Executive Director in place, we have been challenged in many ways. The house continues tohave some property issues. Replacing and repairing air conditioners, and upgrading computers are a fewof the major issues we have had to deal with in recent months. The Board has assisted the staff in the dayto day operations of the house. The Board of Directors has recently hired a consultant to access thestaffing needs at Killingsworth. We look forward to these new possibilities as we move our ministryforward. Due to the many challenges we have faced, we are postponing this annual Killingsworth Gala event forthis year and take a look at our options for 2020. We will keep you informed of other Fundraisingopportunities through Mission Echo and District newsletters and announcement at our Annual Meeting! The most important thing for all to remember is that the house is operating at full steam and residents’needs are being met through the efforts of our hard working staff and committed Board members. We arelooking forward to getting a Director to assist in the day to day operations of the home in the future! Our Circle of Care program is still on our agenda and we would love to come to your district this fall, winteror next spring. If you would like to organize and host us in your district please talk to me for moreinformation. Lastly, as a reminder if you are on Facebook and have not already liked us, please do so by typing inKillingsworth Home! Like us and then as you receive messages from Killingsworth please take a fewseconds to share what’s happening at Killingsworth with others! We are also working on updating ourwebsite under the direction and expertise of Matt Brodie. You may visit us on the web atwww.killingsworth.org. Please remember September is just around the corner and it signals to us that it is KillingsworthSpecial Emphasis Month!!! Won’t you and your unit consider giving in a significant way during September?Thank you for all you do to support the women of Killingsworth! God’s Blessings to all,Flo JohnsonKillingsworth Representative
