Dear Friends in Christ, Thank you for supporting Mission Café and Bakery last September. Together with other mission events throughout the Dakotas Con-ference, we were able to raise more than $235,000 to alleviate hunger and poverty local-ly and globally. This year’s Mission Café and Bakery will be held on Saturday, September 30 at Southern Hills UMC in Sioux Falls (3400 E 49th Street) from 10:30 a.m.-2:00 p.m. We will once again have a variety of food stations, a bakery, live entertainment,

silent auction, craft fair and activities for children! We are thankful for your ongoing support of our mission efforts and want to let you know how you can help this year. Here’s how you and your congregation can get involved: BAKERY ITEMS – Any and all baked goods are welcome! Please bring items packaged and ready to sell. SILENT AUCTION – Items should be valued at $25 or more and may include handcrafted items, gift cards, gift baskets, etc. The Silent Auction will run from 10:30-1:00. CRAFT FAIR – Your church may reserve a table for craft items you would like to donate and sell. We ask that you price the items, set up your table and take home items that do not sell at the end of the day. We will have cashiers available. Please contact Karen at [email protected] to reserve your table. UMCOR RELIEF-SUPPLY KITS – Check out http://www.umcor.org/UMCOR/Relief-Supplies for kit details. The greatest demand is for health kits and school kits. Kits need to be boxed and taped shut. Label the box with the type of kit and the number of kits in the box. DAKOTAS HUNGER GRANTS – In 2016 we distributed more than $15,000 to programs serving hot meals in communities across the Dakotas. Programs that received grants in-cluded: Bismarck, ND – Ruth Meier’s Hospitality House, Fargo, ND – New Life Center-Mandan, ND – Wonderful Wednesday All Church Meal, Mission, SD – Warm Welcome at Tree of Life, Pierre, SD – Community Banquet, Sheyenne, ND - Conversations of Faith at Spirit Lake Ministry Center, Sioux Falls, SD – Neighborhood Outreach for Feeding Kids at Wesley UMC, SD Rural Office of Community Services – Dakota Senior Meals in 8 SD com-munities, Watertown, SD – Tuesday Morning Breakfast, and Yankton, SD – Area Banquet. We are very excited to continue this collaborative effort. Our aim is to attract new people, raise awareness and continue our mission to be the hands and feet of Christ locally and globally.

During the past six months, the church office has been imple-menting the use of ITC Notify for church notifications.

Recently we have reached our maximum amount of names that can be listed in the “Notify Phonebooks” for the Clear Lake and Gary churches. Many of you are using several ways of being notified. At this time we are asking for your input so that we may reduce the number of contacts for each person/family.

When deciding on your preferred options, please keep in consideration that we pay a flat monthly rate for this service, but each time we send out a notification, charges are also added on for long distance phone calls. Text messages, emails, and local numbers are not charged extra.

Please notify the church office by June 12th of your preferred method of contact. If we don’t hear from you, the office will delete extra contacts to bring our “ITC Notify Phonebook” numbers down to under the maximum listings.

Thank you for your help with this matter, and we appreciate your patience as we continue to implement and improve on this service to our church families.

Having a great and up to date website is vital to church growth! Websites are how young people today choose which church to at-tend.

In the past, the church website would be setup by one volunteer, but then would quickly become out of date. The church understands that the time demanded to keep the website up to date by one person is hard.

Recently a church member has been working hard to make and install a new website for the Clear Lake United Methodist Church. The new website will have many new and interactive functions that the old website lacked. How exciting! But the best part is that because it is all online, the website can be updated by more than one person.

What we are looking for are volunteers who would help keep the new website updated. These persons would be responsible for im-puting information to the web pages on a regular basis and removing information when it becomes dated. Training will be given so each volunteer will have the knowledge to access and update the web page via an online service. We are also needing volunteers that would help gather information for others to place on the website.

If you want more information about this ministry or if you have the skills necessary or are willing to learn the skills to help us keep our new website updated please contact the church office. This is an op-portunity for church service that you can do from your home and a service that is vital to our church growth and vitality.

PLEASE NOTE: The website pages are accessed online. There is no software to install. The company providing

the website has great support and video tutorials.

Michelle Gross will be leading train-ing sessions on the software, Pro-Presenter, that is used by several of the volunteers for the screen images for the Clear Lake UMC. The ses-

sions are open to all who have an interest in learning this soft-ware or are interested in joining the volunteer rotation for the projector. Contact Michelle Gross at 605-237-4882.

Starting At 7 PM June 13th & 15th July 6th August 1st & 3rd

His Fortune Was Close at Hand In the 1800’s a prospector went to California in search of his fortune. The man spent his entire life scouring the mountains for gold, only to die as a pauper. When they were digging the grave behind his house to bury him…do I really have to finish the story?

Sometimes the gold we’re searching for is locat-ed in our own backyard. We don’t need to search the world over to find happiness. We simply need to follow wherever the Shepherd leads and then lie down and rest in God’s will.

See You In Church Pastor Frank

For the past five years the Dakotas Annual Conference has collected a Miracle Offering during the annual conference session. The theme of the 2017 Annual Conference session—taking place June 8-10 in Bis-marck, ND—is “Encounter the Spirit: Live Expectantly.” This year’s of-fering, “Kids Count Miracle Offering,” has both a hands-on and financial component.

Volunteer at your local school We invite you and your congregation to allow the Holy Spirit to break-through your life and the lives of the children in your community by in-vesting your time volunteering at your local school. There are many ways to volunteer at school reading to children, helping in classrooms, helping at a school event, assisting with a special school project, donat-ing school supplies, creating or assisting with an afterschool program. Funds for church-school partnerships and camperships Over 100,000 children are living in poverty across North and South Da-kota. Over 75% of the children have parents who work out of the home during their school years. Church-school partnerships can help fill the gaps for kids who are lacking in school supplies, clothing, books and positive role models.

The goal of the 2017 Kids Count Miracle Offering is to raise $100,000 for grants for church-school partnerships and to help new worshipping congregations send the children in their target communi-ties to our United Methodist camps. Eighty percent (80%) of the cash offering will go to support church-school partnerships and twenty per-cent (20%) will go to help our new churches send children and youth to camp.
