how Hull House is connected to Jane Addams.

• Read 2nd paragraph, practice summarizing• How do a nurse and skill classes connect to better lives?• Why do you think the author includes a photo of children in a pottery

class?

Example

• Introduction Think about the tallest building you have ever seen. How would you get to the top? Imagine what life would be like without the elevator. The invention of a safe passenger elevator changed how people lived. It also changed how cities looked.

• Conclusion We may take elevators for granted today, but life would not be the same without them. Cities would not have skyscrapers. People would not live in high-rise buildings. A world without elevators would be a very different world.
