    1. What is Leadership?

    - The action of leading a group of people or an

    organization

    - The process of influencing and inspiring others to work toachieve a common goal and then giving them the power and the

    freedom to achieve it.

    2. Entrepreneurs must take on many roles in their companies, butnone is more important than that of leader.

    What are the different between Leaders and

    Entrepreneurs?1. Entrepreneurs who start companies and leaders who

    grow companies.2. Entrepreneurs tend to have high energy while leaders

    have moderate to high levels of energy.

    3. Entrepreneurs generally have fair to poor listening skills.

    Leaders are good listeners.4. Entrepreneurs are average to fair teachers. Leaders

    are fair to good teachers.

    5. Entrepreneurs have average to fair emotional intelligence. Leaders

    have average to good emotional intelligence.

    6. Entrepreneurs are always willing to take risks and are reasonably

    good at dealing with crises. Leaders are moderately willing to takerisks in normal times but are great with crises.

    7. Delegating. Entrepreneurs have very high control needs and cant

    delegate. Leaders have only moderate control needs and can delegate.

    8. Entrepreneurs have a wide range of networking skills, from poor to

    great. Leaders generally have great networking skills.

    say We have to/should do it

    10. successful entrepreneurs have hired or delegated toothers the role of leadership. successful leader must be

    entrepreneurial, as well as innovative, as they need to

    undertake innovations

    1. Charismatic Leadership-In which leaders inspire enthusiasm in their teams and are

    energetic in motivating others to move forward; task-oriented

    leadership, whose leaders focus only on getting the job done;people-oriented leadership, in which leaders are tuned into

    organizing, supporting and developing people on their teams.

    2. Transformation Leadership- whose leaders inspire by expecting the best from

    everyone and themselves.

    3. Post-Heroic Leadership

    a. Past decade/Traditional heroes

    - A common view of leaders is that they are heroes and have sole

    responsibility to set or organize their companys goal, control their team, and

    manage their performance.

    - It is foolhardy for them to solve all problems by himself or herself

    alone.

    b. New century/Post-heroic

    1. Using vision to motivate and inspire2. Empowering employees at all level

    3. Risk taking and enabling creativity

    4. work to create highly participative teams and organizations

    characterized by shared commitment and responsibility.

    1. Leadership is setting a new direction or vision

    for a group that they follow, ie: a leader is the

    spearhead for that new direction.

    2. Management controls or directs

    people/resources in a group according to

    principles or values that have already been

    established.

    1. What is power?

    - The ability to influence other people.

    - In organization, this often means the ability to get things

    done or accomplish ones goals despite resistance from others.

    2. Sources of Power

    - Legitimate Power: The Leader with Legitimate Power has the

    right, or the authority, to tell others what to do; employees areobligated to comply with legitimate orders.

    - Reward Power: The leader who has reward power influencesothers because she/he controls valued reward; people complywith the leaderswishes in order to receive those reward.

    - Coercive Power: The leader with coercive power influences hascontrol over punishments; people comply to avoid thosepunishments.

    - Referent Power: The leader with referent power has personalcharacteristics that appeal to other; people comply because ofadmiration, a desire for approval, personal liking, or a desire tobe like the leader.

    1. Visionis the result of an entrepreneurs dream of

    something that does not exist yet and the ability to paint a

    compelling picture of that dream for everyone to see.

    2. A clearly defined vision:

    - Provides direction

    - Determines decisions

    - Motivates people
