magazine because it will bring a wide audience of young that inspire to be film makers. Also by having young people featured in the magazine will give them a chance to showcase their projects that they are working or finished. This featured article of young upcoming film markers will also help the them promote their work.

By having some of the best film markers give tips on how to make a great film in this magazine will bring a larger audience. This is these film makers will have a fan base that will read anything that the film marker has to say. These tips for experienced people would really help many people that wants to be a film maker or are upcoming.

Written sourcesHebblethwaite set up the free indie music magazine in 2005 after the publishing company he worked for went bust. “Back then the music press seemed really stagnant. Online was beginning to get interesting but the regular music mags like NME and Q had become predictable. We felt there was space to launch a title that would cover mostly independent music in a way that was informative, witty and a bit confrontational.” What Hebblethwaite had and what he says is essential was “good contacts”. He adds, “We needed those contacts – writers, snappers, illustrators – to make sure we could get the stories.” For the first issue they printed 10,000 copies and distributed the publication themselves by hand. Says Hebblethwaite, “For the first five years, we did all the distribution ourselves – and that meant two vans covering 2,500 miles each time we printed. The number of towns and cities increased to 50, then 75 and currently almost 100.” Last year the non-London distribution was outsourced to Worldwide Magazine Distribution in Birmingham. Stool Pigeon’s now a full-time operation but, says Hebblethwaite, “It’s still hard to make a living off it, even after six years.”One thing has become certain to Hebblethwaite is that, “you simply can’t be a printed title only. You need to be just as intelligent online.” Part of this, he says, is “making sure you have distinct identities in print and on the web.”George MacDonald set up his magazine, Very Nearly Almost, in 2006 after he saw the lack of publication covering his passion: street art. He explains, “I’ve been photographing graffiti since 1997 and when street art emerged in the early 2000s I began to photograph the likes of Banksy and D*Face and that led me to put together a small zine which I gave away for free in galleries and shops.” He began to sell it around issue three and by issue seven the “zine” became a proper magazine. He says, “We’re all massive fans of printed matter. There’s something amazing about a well-produced magazine that’s beautiful and collectable. I don’t enjoy reading magazines online and I believe in keeping printed magazines alive.” MacDonald still hasn’t got back the money he put into the magazine, but says, “I like to think that in the future it will be a successful full-time magazine with a healthy turnover and hopefully some profit.” The key is distribution: “It’s taken us a while to get to where we are now with our readership because of getting the right stockists and distribution. It’s all well and good having an amazing product but if it’s in the right places no one is ever going to see it, let alone buy it. The internet can only take you so far.”But it’s possible. Hebblethwaite says, “You can still make a printed title work, but you’d better have a bloody good idea and a whole load of dedication. And you need to run a site that’s just as good as the printed version of your title.”Everything that is listed in black are important to start a magazine.

Client Empire is populist in both approach and coverage. It reviews both mainstream films and art

films, but feature articles concentrate on the former. As well as film news, previews and reviews, Empire has some other regular features. Each issue (with the exception of issues 108–113) features a Classic Scene, a transcript from a notable film scene. The first such classic scene to be featured was the "I could have been a contender" scene from On the Waterfront.

Empire is a British film magazine published monthly by Bauer Consumer Media of Hamburg based Bauer Media Group. From the first issue in July 1989, the magazine was edited by Barry McIlheney and published by Emap. Bauer purchased Emap Consumer Media in early 2008. It is the biggest selling film magazine in the United Kingdom and is also published in the United States, Australia, Turkey, Russia, Italy and Portugal. Empire organizes the annual Empire Awards which were sponsored by Sony Ericsson, and from 2009 sponsored by Jameson.

I feel that the Empire target audience is adults and their articles are generalizes somewhat in order to placate for a wider audience. However, with my magazine, the language and tone will be specific. I understand that this might not reflect the whole of youth culture of course, so it’s important that films from a wide range of cultures and countries are represented. In many, the magazine could be popular in college, particularly within media departments.

Target Audience The target audience are media students or people that want to work in

the media industry My audience is gong to be 16-21 years old (female & male) who are very

enthusiast about films and the media industry. They will be people who tend to watch comedy & action films genres as

this is the target audience that I am aiming for. However sometime I will add a new genre of films to have a feature in the magazine for example like horror, thriller, drama, crime, mystery, romance, film-noir, family & adventure.

By adding a new genres of film to the magazine weekly will bring in a more wider audience.

This a graph that shows how many young people read magazine the UK. (this is just general magazine)This graph has told me that as the years go on less young people read magazine in general.I want to change this by having a magazine that is just for the people that are very into media and its not about gossip or celebrity boys/girls. I feel magazine for the youth are only about gossip or boys which isn't a true representation of the youth, this I I felt the need to make a media magazine because I know people share the same interested as me.

costs. After doing some research, it will cost around £56,500 (using better quality resources) per issue, this is to produce the magazine not including staff cost. For our first couple of issues, we wont be using the move priced resources and we are on a tight budget unit we have had enough sales to be confident enough that we can upgrade to finer material and resources.
