Unit 13 – Leadership in Sport

Page 2: Unit 13 p1 task

Vocational context SCENARIO Your school has an extensive Gifted & Talented

programme, made up of many gifted athletes and very talented sports leaders. Your school has set up a Leadership Academy to help nurture and develop these talents, which includes a website.

As one of the most respected sports leaders you have been asked to prepare a mini assembly for a group of Year 7 and Year 8 pupils who are showing an interest in getting involved in the school leadership programmes. The theme is ‘What makes a good Sports Leader?’ You also have the chance to follow up this assembly with a contribution to the school website.

P1 look at some famous or well known

leaders that the Year 7’s will be able to relate to. You should then go onto describe four qualities, four characteristics and four roles common to effective sports leaders using examples from the leaders you have chosen

M1 You decide that your assembly for Year 8

students will build on the information you gave to Year 7 students and for a MERIT will provide a more in depth idea of what makes a good sports leader. You must therefore add additional information to explain your descriptions of the qualities, characteristics and roles, making sure that you give reasons as to why it is important for successful leaders to possess them (M1). Again you must give examples from the leaders you have spoken about
