UNION FALL HARVEST SHARINGIn the Memorial Union and Union South Employee Break Room refrigerators you’ll find a shelf listed as “Free Garden Stuff.” Stop by and drop off extra goods you have or pick up fresh garden food you would like for you and yours.

CAMPUS FARMERS MARKET AT UNION SOUTH This market is held every Thursday, September —October 27, from 10 am—2 pm at Union South’s Orchard Street. It’s a great opportunity to support your wellness—grab a colleague, take a quick walk over or downstairs and pick up some fresh, produce while supporting local farmers.

ATTEND THE 'KNOW YOUR NUMBERS' BIOMETRIC SCREENINGThe "Know Your Numbers" free biometric screening is available to employees and their spouses/domestic partners enrolled in the State of Wisconsin group health insurance program as part of the $150 Well Wisconsin incentive. Fasting (8-12 hours prior to the screening) is not required for screening participation, but may provide more accurate results. The screening will measure body mass index, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and waist measurement. Events are:

Oct. 4 at Union South, Oct. 6 at the Social Sciences Building, Oct. 13 at Memorial Library, Oct. 18 at Dejope Hall, Oct. 20 at Eagle Heights Community Center, and Oct. 27 at 21 N. Park St.

MILLION HEARTS : TALKING TOBACCO CESSATION - Check Out These Tips and ToolsTools You Can UseCheck out Smokefree.gov’s Practice Quit Program—This text messaging program provides options for smokers who are thinking about quitting, but aren’t ready to commit to the 6-week SmokefreeTXT program. Practice Quit lets users try going smoke-free for a short time before they decide to quit for good. Get the Smokefree Apps here. Also, visit Smokefree.gov’s new website that aims to help smokers, including those 60 and older.

Seventy percent of U.S. smokers want to quit, and only about a third of those who try receive counseling and/or medications to help them succeed. Although smoking rates have declined, between 35 and 40 million adults continue to smoke. Take action to help the millions of Americans who want to quit smoking by checking out recent data from the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, promoting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Tips From Former Smokers (Tips) Campaign, and using tools such as the Million Hearts® Tobacco Cessation Protocol and Action Guide.

When you are ready to stop smoking, get additional help tips from the University of Wisconsin Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention.MILLION HEARTS : NUTRITION INFORMATION The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), has created two very useful handouts: “Understanding and Using the Nutrition Facts Label,” and “Key Nutrients and Your Health” with information that can useful for your health. Copies are also in the Wisconsin Union breakroom bulletin boards.

MEDITATION Meditation is an evidence-based method for increasing concentration and mental clarity, and helping to induce positive states of relaxation and well-being.

MEDITATION CLASSESMeditation classes at UHS introduce the general principles and benefits of meditation. Students practice different types of meditation including: breathing-focused, mantra-focused, loving kindness, humming, third eye, and chakra. All classes are free and open to students, faculty, and staff. No registration required. Fall classes are:

Tuesdays | Noon - 1 pm (21 North Park Street #7045) Wednesdays | Noon - 1 pm (Union South TITU) Thursdays | Noon - 1 pm (Union South TITU)

TERGAR MEDITATIONThese unguided "Open Meditation Sessions" are open to everyone. Each session is divided into 30 minute practices and you are welcome to come for as little as 30 minutes or as long as the entire time.
