Personal description of Stefan Galler

Oetzi, the Tyrolean Iceman 5250 years old glacier mummy

The best way of introducing me is a comparison with OETZI, the Tyrolean Iceman. Like him, I am from South Tyrol (St. Lorenzen im Pustertal) and crossed the Alps as he did with one slight difference: I know why: First for my studies in Innsbruck and Konstanz and now for doing biological research at the University of Salzburg. Anyway, my heart still beats for my home country.

For mountain climbers like Oetzi and me, the muscle is the most important tissue. Therefore, muscle physiology is my research subject. I had the chance to investigate some aspects of the molecular muscle function. In addition, I had the great opportunity to investigate the remaining’s of Oetzi's muscle by comparing it with a biopsy from my own leg.

Besides the research I am teaching physiology for students of biology, molecular biology and medicine.

Theresa and Maria Margareta Galler

In the spare time I am singing in the choir of Salzburg Cathedral.

The name of my wife is Sandra. We have three children: Maria Margareta (2016), Theresa (2018) and Jakob (2020).

The real truth about me is a top secret

Origin

Josef Knapp,*9.2.1921 †4.2.2014

My idols are those rare people who are never afraid and never tire to use their talents in fulfilling their duty for the good of society and in demanding justice and objectivity.

See here the life of my father Oswald Galler (*1926 †2018, obituaries: PZ, DOL, LB) and my uncle Josef Knapp (*1921 †2014).

Recently, also my niece Anna Galler has made a name for herself. See here.
