Thank you for your interest in Oak Hill School’s Under The Oaks Summer Program. This camp promises to provide your elementary or early middle school-age child with unique experiences both in and out of the classroom. Academic, enrichment and athletic sessions are offered for children entering prekindergarten through the sixth grade.

Knowing that summer schedules are packed with various activities, Under The Oaks strives to make your experience as seamless as possible by offering the following options:

» Full-day camp schedule available for campers of all ages. » Early morning care is available from 8-9 a.m. » Lunch may be purchased for half-day and full-day campers. » Drop-off transportation is offered at six convenient locations twice daily.

Boys Outdoor Adventure Week3 days & 2 nightsExplore the great outdoors with Oak Hill School coaches Carlton Stewart and Scott Mason. Campers will participate in a variety of outdoor activities, including a ropes course, fishing, canoeing, hiking, cooking and much more. AthleticsFootball: 9 a.m.-12 p.m.Carlton StewartOak Hill School Coach Carlton Stewart and his all-star staff will guide campers through the fundamentals of becoming a great football player. Learn from former pro and current NCAA players as they share their knowledge and insight about what it takes to succeed in football. Whether you are looking to be a defensive stopper or offensive star, you will learn techniques and fundamentals that will start you down the path to success.Rising 4th-6th Grades, Cost: $155

Girls Basketball: 1-4p.m.Kaitlin AdamsJoin Oak Hill School Coach Kaitlin Adams for high-tempo fun as campers hit the hardwoods. The camp is designed to establish a solid foundation for basketball fundamentals, balancing skill work with fun.Rising 2nd-6th Grades, Cost: $155

Enrichments Half-day Session A: 9 a.m.–12 p.m.Reading and Writing Outside the BoxMargaret KoehlerHere is the chance for young learners to explore literacy through Reader’s Theater and creative writing. Lower school teacher Margaret Koehler will help campers sharpen reading skills such as comprehension, fluency and prosody, while practicing and performing mini-plays based on real books. Campers will also use their imagination to author creative stories, using read-aloud books to act as inspiration for their own work. The week will conclude with a performance of their Reader’s Theater play and a book of their own stories.Rising 1st-3rd Grades, Cost: $160

Enrichments Half-day session b: 1–4 p.m.Computer Animation with ScratchMargaret KoehlerMany children have seen and enjoyed animated movies such as Toy Story and Shrek and wondered how they were created. Campers will have the chance to explore the creative side of computing by creating stories, animations and games using Scratch, the MIT created educational programming language. Lower school teacher Margaret Koehler will teach participants how to work cooperatively to design projects and improve their computations, becoming creators rather than interactors with their computers.Rising 3rd-5th Grades, Cost: $160

Getting To Know YouConeale Bethurum & Suzanne RannellsIs your child ready for Kindergarten? Let Kindergarten teachers Coneale Bethurum and Suzanne Rannells introduce campers to a variety of creative lessons and activities designed to help children get Kindergarten off to a great start. Campers will enjoy many different hands-on centers, which will provide fun opportunities to learn and work cooperatively with their peers.Rising Kindergarteners, Cost: $160 + Supply fee: $10

Reading Around the WorldTerry FralickCampers and lower school teacher Terry Fralick will pay a visit to a different country each day to learn about the things that make it interesting, including location, climate, culture and landmarks. Campers will read folktales or stories and have the opportunity to try each country’s traditional food.Rising 1st and 2nd Grades , Cost: $160 + Supply fee: $10

Campers will learn about the geography, people and landmarks of different regions and states in America, understanding both the similar and unique characteristics of each and how together they make the United States a great place to live.Rising 1st and 2nd Grades, Cost: $80

Magic Carpet RideJane BrownMagic Carpet Ride introduces campers to a variety of countries around the world through dramatic play. Each day, PreK teacher Jane Brown leads children on an exciting adventure with a special puppet, Genie of the Lamp, who is the tour guide for each new experience. After creating a special travel ticket, campers say the magic word then hop on the magic carpet and off they go to experience another place and time. On the last day of camp, children will wear their favorite costume and create a Magic Carpet original show. Limited to 12 campers.Rising PreK-K, Cost: $90 + Supply fee: $10

Enrichments Session 2: 10:30 a.m.–12 p.m.American Girl Summer Tea PartyHolly NelsenBring a favorite American Girl doll and enjoy a week that is perfect for doll-loving girls. This camp will be filled with American Girl themed activities, crafts and games. Candy & Cookie FunKim RogersJoin Oak Hill School Dining Services Coordinator Kim Rogers for a sweet celebration of summer fun. Campers will learn how to prepare various candies and cookies that will surely tempt your taste buds.Rising PreK-6th Grades, Cost: $80 + Supply fee: $20

Decatha-Lawn GamesAdam SiegelThe Decatha-Lawn will incorporate 10 of the best lawn games. Campers will play a different game each day, including bean bag toss, washings, ladder gold, paddleball, ring toss, outdoor bowling, mini golf, lawn darts and hacky sack. Oak Hill School lower school teacher Adam Siegel will “referee” a bracket-style tournament to determine the Decatha-Lawn champion at the end of the week.Rising 1st-3rd Grades, Cost: $80

Campers will enjoy a fun-filled flight with birds and pigs with Oak Hill dining services assistant, Holly Nelsen, at this Angry Birds immersion camp. ACADEMICSSpringboard to Summer: 9 a.m.-12 p.m.Mary Carter & Bitsy WardWant to keep those academic skills fresh over the summer? Need extra practice in math and language arts to prepare for the next school year? This academic class led by Oak Hill School teachers, Mary Carter and Bisty Ward, focuses on the extra practice of basic skills, while teaching students how to structure academic time into their summer. Students will spend three hours per day in math and language arts classes, working on ways to practice skills. The week will conclude with an individualized plan to continue their work throughout the rest of the summer.Rising 5th Grade, Cost: $250

ISEE Prep: 9-10:30 a.m.Karen BurtchStart preparing now! Learning services teacher Karen Burtch will help students become familiar with the type of questions that are found in each of the five sections of the ISEE—Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Math Achievement and the Essay. Students will learn test-taking strategies and work on sample questions from each section.Rising 6th Grade, Cost: $200

AthleticsBoys Basketball: 1-4 p.m.Carlton StewartJoin Oak Hill School Coach Carlton Stewart as he introduces younger campers to the basic fundamentals of the game, such as ball handling, passing, footwork and proper shooting form. More advanced players will have the opportunity to practice more challenging skill work and engage in competitive game time at the at the end of each day.Rising 2nd-6th Grades, Cost: $155

Enrichments Half-day Session A: 9 a.m.-12 p.m.Mini Museum MasterpiecesMargaret KoehlerLearn about art history and study the work of famous artists with lower school teacher Margaret Koehler. Each day campers will create their own mini artworks in the styles of the masters—Da Vinci, Vermeer, Monet and more. The week will culminate with the creation of a Mini Museum, a “shoe-box” museum filled with a mix of each camper’s own works.Rising 1st-3rd Grades, Cost: $160 + Supply fee: $10

Early EngineersSarah Faquin & Colleen HeastonBudding engineers get ready! Oak Hill School lower school teachers Sarah Faquin and Colleen Heaston will lead campers through a series of engineering projects, integrating other disciplines and fostering problem-solving skills. Campers will learn how engineering “connects” to literature, design process, building activities, edible creations and technology. Rising K-2nd Grades, Cost: $160 + Supply fee: $10

Fancy Nancy Book ClubSarah Faquin & Colleen HeastonCalling all Fancy Nancy fans! Join Oak Hill School Kindergarten teachers Sarah Faquin and Colleen Heaston to get your fill of Fancy Nancy books. Campers will read a different Fancy Nancy book each day and experience literature through costume design, cooking, dramatic interpretation, dance and electronic journaling to document the experience. Enrichments Session 3: 1 -2:30 p.m.Camping 101Bitsy WardJoin upper school teacher Bitsy Ward for a fun and exciting week to learn about camping basics, including fire starters, first aid kits, orienteering, map reading and more. Stitch ItSally SmithIn just one week, lower school teacher Sally Smith will introduce campers to the basics of counted cross stitch, a popular form of hand embroidery. Campers will learn about the type of stitches, supplies and tools and how to read a counted cross stitch pattern. Every participant will complete their own counted cross stitch project during the camp.Rising 1st-6th Grades, Cost: $80

Enrichments Session 4: 2:30-4 p.m.Dance, Dance, Dance!Karly WhitsonIt’s time for girls to get their groove on. Former OHS student and local dance instructor, Karly Whitson, will help campers explore various genres of dance, including ballet, jazz and hip hop. This introduction to dance is a great opportunity for girls who are considering further dance lessons. Parents will be invited to watch a dance performance on the last day of camp.Rising 2nd-6th Grades, Cost: $80

Toe-Tally DanceAshlyn Huff ReveletteJoin former OHS student and local dance instructor Ashlyn Huff Revelette to learn the fundamentals of dance. Campers will learn proper techniques of leaps, jumps and moving spins, weaving all of the fundamentals into fun combinations set to a different song each day. Campers will be assigned to a mini group to perform for their peers.Rising 2nd-5th Grades, Cost: $160

Enrichments Session 1: 9-10:30 a.m.Kids Culinary 101Chef IshmaelCampers will not want to miss the opportunity to learn basic culinary skills from Oak Hill School’s very own Chef Ishmael. Chef Ish will teach campers how to prepare and make some of his favorite items and dishes while introducing campers to the world of kids cuisine. Rising 3rd-6th Grades, Cost: $80 + Supply fee: $20

La Semaine du FrancaisSusan CaldwellBonjour, campers! Come and explore the highlights of French culture and language. Each day, lower school teacher Susan Caldwell will lead campers in a hands-on activity that focuses on a favorite aspect of French culture, such as creating a French impressionist piece, cooking authentic French food or designing a Haute Couture piece of apparel for a fashion show. Campers will learn conversational French through games, songs and activities.Rising 2-6th Grades, Cost: $80

Enrichments Session 2: 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.Passport to FoodChef IshmaelGrab your “food passport” and travel with Oak Hill School’s very own Chef Ishmael around the world, preparing and enjoying cultural foods from various countries. Campers will receive a stamp in their food passport at the beginning and end of each day. Safe travels, campers!Rising 3rd-6th Grades, Cost: $80 + Supply fee: $20

Enrichments Session 3: 1 -2:30 p.m.LegoLandDon DrydenDuring this exciting, hands-on experience, campers will design their own authentic plans to construct buildings and transportation vehicles for LegoLand. Oak Hill School physical education teacher Don Dryden will reinforce to campers the importance of working together to complete their project, while allowing time for campers to focus on their individual designs. Lego kits will come home with engineer campers at the end of the week.Rising K-4th Grades, Cost: $80 + Supply fee: $20

Sing, Rehearse & RecordCaroline CookCampers will rehearse and improvise on two familiar songs. The week will culminate with an exciting visit to a local recording studio to record the finished product. Rising 3rd-6th Grades, Cost: $80

So You Want to be a Pirate?Terry FralickAhoy, Matey! Here be the tellin’ of tall tales and mischief of life as a pirate. Pirate campers will join Capn’ and lower school teacher Terry Fralick to learn about some of the most famous pirates known to sail the high seas. Come aboard for a week-long adventure of stories, ships and surprises.Rising K-2nd Grades, Cost: $80 + Supply fee: $10

What Floats Your Boat?Caroline CrouchFind out at this camp that will test not only floatation, but campers’ imagination and creativity as well. Each day campers will use various materials, including paper and clay, to create their own boat. Campers will have the opportunity to test their boats and make adjustments.
