It can be used to reduce tensile or burst strength of the pulp with improved softness, benefits desired when producing facial tissue and paper toweling. Ulterion ® 8002 is a powerful insolubilizing and crosslinking agent. It may also be used as a crosslinking agent for hydroxyl functional coatings such as polyvinyl alcohol and starch or nitrogeneous materials such as gelatin. The final food contact article may not contain more than 0.3 g Ulterion ® 8002 per in 2 (0.05 g Ulterion 8002 per cm 2 ) of paper or paperboard. Application Methods Ulterion ® 8002 may be added as received directly to the wet end of the paper machine. Paper Starch modification Handling / Storage Stability Ulterion ® 8002 should be stored indoors at 30 - 90°F. If frozen, product may be reconstituted by warming slowly and stirring. Storage at high temperatures causes the product to turn dark yellow to amber. PERFORMANCE FEATURES MARKET USES Best results are obtained when Ulterion ® 8002 is fed into the suction side of the stock fan pump that goes to the headbox. The amount of Ulterion ® 8002 needed is normally 0.2 – 0.8% as received, based on the dry weight of the pulp, is sufficient for most systems. Ulterion ® 8002 may be made into a solution containing 8.0% by weight and added directly to the dry end of the paper machine. For fine papers feed the solution into a fine spray shower at 0.2 – 0.8% Ulterion ® 8002 based on dry weight of pulp in the sheet as it goes onto the Yankee Dryer.
