Purpose of Event/Project: The purpose of the Relay for Life event on UK's campus is to raise both money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. We do this by hosting the Relay event once a year on campus and encourage all students to attend and help finish the fight against cancer. Org funds used: All of the members of the Colleges Against Cancer committee work to secure sponsorships from local organizations to help cover the overhead costs of the event. Any money that we have for administrative expenses come from fundraising prior to the event.

Detailed Description of Request: We are requesting funding to support all of the administrative expenses that go along with hosting the Relay for Life fundraiser on UK's campus. The money that we raise through funding like this will help more of the money that participants raise go directly to cancer-related programs instead of covering overhead of the event. We will not use the UK's Managed Print Services solely because we do not require any print materials for the event. Purpose of Event/Project: The event the Iota Sigma Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc is requesting funding for is the 80th Central Regional Conference. This is an annual conference that delegated members must attend in order to receive proper training concerning the chapter and its future endeavors. If delegates do not attend this conference and its workshops, the chapter risks loosing its ability to continue on the University of Kentucky's campus.

Org funds used: The members of our organization are required to pay dues each calendar year. The dues that are paid range from 100 - 200 dollars and help to support our chapters community service projects and programs. For example, we volunteer at local schools such as the Lexington Traditional Magnet School and William Wells Brown Elementary School and Community Center.

Our dues also go toward or educational programs that are created on the basis of our national initiatives that range from Health, Social Justice and Human Rights, Economic Security and Emerging Young Leaders. We also make annual contributions and donations to Heifer International.Members that are delegated to the regional conference are required to sponsor themselves, because of such contributions

Purpose of Org: In mid 2012, the opportunity arose for the next step in the evolution of competitive shooting sports at the University of Kentucky. Expanding off of the success of the UK Shotgun Team which has seen tremendous growth since 2009, the UK Pistol and 3-Gun team was founded with support from the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the Scholastic Pistol Program and many local businesses. Our team was created in order to serve the youth of the commonwealth by giving the opportunity to anyone at the University to compete in and learn the art of competitive Handgun, Rifle, and Shotgun. To date our team competes specifically against collegiate competitors in the Scholastic Pistol Program and against open competition in USPSA, IDPA, and 3-Gun/Multi-gun shoots. In 2013, the pistol team took home the SPP National title. Our team continues to expand and will be here for any of those wishing to learn the sport and be a steward of the art that is the competitive pistol shooter.

Org funds used: Member dues are $1500 each semester with club members paying $600. Team members teach lessons to raise money and each lesson is $35 dollars per hour. T-shirt/clothing sales usually raise between $200-$600. Donations from polo members and other clubs across the country amounted to around $2000 this year.

Detailed Description of Request: Both the UK Women's and Mens polo teams are looking to travel to the University of Virginia to compete in the Southeastern Regionals. In order to do that, each team must pay $600 to the USPA which is a burden on our student run club where members already pay $1500 each semester. Receiving this grant would help offset those costs and allow us to use that money to provide proper and sufficient care to our horses.

Purpose of Event/Project: Pershing Rifle Company C-1 started performing color guards and other ceremonial procedures for the University of Kentucky and the city of Lexington in 1931. We still continue this tradition today, presenting the flag with pride at major athletic events and any other event or ceremony on campus for which a color guard is requested. Not only do we serve UK, but we travel throughout Lexington and even to other states to perform such ceremonies; representing the University of Kentucky and the United States Army and Air Force. And never requiring any type of compensation for our services. The purpose of our request is to receive funding to buy new rifles and sabers to replace our current ones which our outdated and extremely worn; so that we can continue doing color guards with pride and dignity.

Event/Project: Doug Jones: The Birmingham Church BombingsLocation: UK Law School and UK CampusDate: 3/4/14Time: 12:00 p.m. and other times

Purpose of Event/Project: Doug Jones grew up during the 1960's Birmingham church bombings. As a young boy he promised to bring justice to the victims. Nearly 40 years laters he prosecuted two of the responsible members. Mr. Jones has spoken across the country about the Civil Rights movement, how he resolved the case, and the importance of public service.

Mr. Jones will speak at the law school and will make one to two public appearances during his stay. Planning for the one to two public appearances is under way; he will speak at the Lyric Theater or Singletary Center for the public event. President Capiluto has arranged a reception for Mr. Jones.

Total Cost: $7,000

Org funds used: The law school and Trial Advocacy Board are working together to pay for Mr. Jones' travel, hotel, and food. The Trial Advocacy Board will help pay part of his speaking fee through fundraisers we have held. Specifically, we have sold water bottles and are holding an event at City BBQ.

Detailed Description of Request: Mr. Jones normally charges a $5,000 speaking fee. We are requesting $2,500 to go towards his speaking fee.
