This piece of artwork by the Singh Sisters is absolutely crammed with symbolism. There is a connection to us that only the ‘eagle- eyed’ will spot! It makes a strong statement but has so many hidden messages expressing an opinion. Have a go at the sheet trying to solve the puzzle. Some people would be offended by it, some won’t notice, some would consider it highly political and others would say it’s an opinion expressed through art. What do you think? Add to your notes from yesterday and if someone is free, have a discussion sometime between now and Monday with them about your ideas.

Friday 17th July 2020 - UKS2

Good morning Y5 & Y6. Happy Friday. You nearly made it to the weekend!

UKS2 Reading

Refresh yourself about the ‘Love That Dog’ book and then read the new extract as well as mark Thursday’s questions. Answer the questions about Jack’s response.

UKS2 – Speaking and Listening / Art:

(LI: Be able to debate an issue confidently from a well-researched point of view.) In a lot of our work we have been trying to analyse why things are the way they are. This is a subject that is open to a lot of different interpretations and controversy and so it is good to gather opinions and thoughts about it before voicing an opinion. Did you spot that there was a lot or argument about both the Banksy piece and the sculpture on the news yesterday. The sculpture has already been removed and the Banksy has been washed off. (The

and… https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-53415832) and… https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-53423415 )

Thanks to Sophia for looking at this question

Is digital art still art? What if it is made by a computer? She found this interesting piece of digital art while answering this question and clicking on the link in the question. Thanks to Tristan for sending in this debate that he and his dad had about the questions in the file below. Have a look at their thoughts. Do you agree with either of them or do you have a different ideas about the questions and responses? I have added some extra questions that came into my head while reading what they had said. OK – Now to add an extra dimension! Can art be political? Is it allowed to be offensive? Are people free to express themselves through art however they choose? This piece of artwork by the Singh Sisters is absolutely crammed with symbolism. There is a connection to us that only the ‘eagle-eyed’ will spot! It makes a strong statement but has so many hidden messages expressing an opinion. Have a go at the sheet trying to solve the puzzle. Some people would be offended by it, some won’t notice, some would consider it highly political and others would say it’s an opinion expressed through art. What do you think? Buddy Books: If you haven’t finished your buddy book please continue working on it and email it in as soon as possible. You can see our finished examples here. The original instructions and video clip to help…https://youtu.be/PwlcySra-d8 (About 60 mins in your yellow book or in Word.)

Reading Together Day: Did you read to someone yesterday or take part in any of the activities on the website? If not, have a go at listening to one of the Buddy Books that we have from Y5 and Y6 on our Earth page of the Space Museum website. Can you tell who is reading each story? https://nadeemqureshi.wixsite.com/y5-space-museum/copy-of-cosmic

Or have a go at listening to some parts of ‘Love That Dog’. I have tried to imagine how the poems should be read but perhaps you can do a better job or offer an alternative version and send it in? Both can be found on the same page of the website. The Spoken Buddy Books are near the top and middle on the left and Love That Dog is at the bottom.

AoW: 17.7.20: Celebrate your ability to endure

We are nearly at the end of our rainbow of celebration. We

are looking today at indigo and violet.

This week collect as many things as you can around home –

or your space at school that are INDIGO AND VIOLET.

Why should we be grateful for these things?

Are we thankful enough for all the things that God has given

us?

As we reach the end of term 6, why not make your prayer

one of thankfulness that we have kept calm and carried on.

Write a prayer to accompany the indigo and violet of your

prayer rainbow.

Why not take a photo of your indigo and violet things or

your prayer, if you do, please share it with us. Send it to:

[email protected] and we can create our own rainbow prayer through photos.

UKS2 PSHE: I hope you found the Cribs transition videos and activities useful. Perhaps you did, perhaps you didn’t, perhaps they will become useful in the future. They would really like to hear your thoughts about it. Have a good think about the videos and tasks (as we have been learning how to do) and please give some feedback via this link. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc-

IIBYufxzGWTuI9uClEwUUqj79WKFr_7y8FL94eQ6qTaxNA/viewform Don’t give out any details about yourself except for the school name. It is an anonymous form. (You have to click the submit button when you have finished for your answers to be counted.) We can be honest in order to help them improve the videos and resources but we need to do it in a polite and respectful way. You can be as critical as you like as long as we find a way to also be thankful and help them to make them even better for the next people who use the tasks. It is a charity and Mrs Jones who used to be our headteacher when you were in the infants is also involved with helping them.

UKS2 Computing: For those of you who have made your buddy books and have sent them in already, did you know that it is possible to turn them into real books such as the one that Tristan and Adam have made using a publishing website. Have a look at this guide that is similar to the digital book guide… https://youtu.be/T9tJbnYHaAA

You may like to ask your parents if you can have a go and the website also lets people sell the books they make. To make an account for the website you MUST be an adult but your parents might have a look at this with you if you are interested. It is the website that I used to publish the Chevening books. Perhaps you have already got a copy of the Chevening Book of Hope and Courage that was made using the website? (Did you notice that Elsie’s family’s picture is used on one of the covers for the digital book and Flo’s picture is used as the cover on one of the other digital book covers?) Your only task here is just to find out and listen how to do it. You don’t need to actually do anything. (Here are other books we have made... https://www.lulu.com/spotlight/Chevening)

UKS2 RE: What kind of qualities do we think a great leader should have? Make a fast bullet point list of at least 10 things a great leader should be like. How would you recognise a great leader if you came across one? How would people in the future know whether a person really was a great leader or not? Now have a look at the poem below…

Does the first part of the poem describe Jesus in the way that we might think about a great leader? Does the second? What do you think the poet is trying to say?

Page 8: UKS2 Reading UKS2 Speaking and Listening / Art · UKS2 – Speaking and Listening / Art: (LI: Be able to debate an issue confidently from a well-researched point of view.) In a lot

(It’s another anonymous poem although some people have attributed it to a specific person.) Do you think you can lead people in the future? How would you wish to do it?

UKS2 – SpaG: (LI: Be able to understand how to use questions.) Here’s an easy one for Friday because we have been working really hard and I have been asking loads of questions. How do you turn a sentence into a question? … https://www.educationquizzes.com/11-plus/english/asking-questions/ (About 15mins.)
