REGULATIONS

EligibilityCandidates who have passed BPT degree from institutions where the mode of study is a full time program, with a minimum 4 ½ years duration from this university or any otheruniversity in India or abroad as equivalent with not less than 50% of marks in aggregate and have completed 6 months of compulsory rotating internship in Physiotherapy.

Candidates who have passed BPT through correspondence or Distance Education program are not eligible.ORCandidates who have passed BPT through Bridge Course or through Lateral Entry after completing their Diploma in Physiotherapy from institutions where the mode of study is a full time program from this university or any other university in India or abroad as equivalent with not less than 50% of marks in

aggregate and have completed 6 months of compulsory rotating internship in Physiotherapy. Candidates who have passed BPT through correspondence or Distance Education program are not eligible.

INTAKE OF STUDENTSThe intake of students to the course shall be in accordance with the ordinance in this behalf. The guide student ration should be 1:5DURATION OF THE COURSEThe duration of master of physiotherapy course shall be extended over a period of two continuous years on a full time basis. Any break in the career, power of extension of the course and the fixation of the term shall be vested with the University.I year: MPT Part-I 0 – 12 monthsII year: MPT Part-II 13 – 24 months

REGISTRATIONA candidate admitted to this course shall register with this University by remittingthe prescribed fee along with the application form for registration duly filled in andforwarded to the University through the Head of the Institution within the stipulated time.

PHYSICAL FITNESSEvery student prior to admission to the course should submit to the Head of theInstitution, a certificate of Medical fitness that the candidate is physically fit to undergo the course.ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATECandidates who have passed any qualifying examination from any other Universityequivalent to B.P.T. not less than 3½ years shall obtain an Eligibility Certificate from theUniversity remitting the prescribed fee along with the application form.MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTIONThe medium of instruction for all subjects shall be English.CURRICULUMThe Curriculum and syllabus for the course shall be updated by the AcademicCouncil from time to time as per the recommendations of the Board of Studies inPhysiotherapy.

ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION TO EXAMINATIONS(a) No candidate shall be permitted to appear in any one of the parts of M.P.T.degree examinations unless he or she has attended the course in the subjectsfor the prescribed period and produces the necessary certificate of study,

attendance, satisfactory conduct and progress from the Head of theInstitution.(b) A candidate is required to put in a minimum of 75% of attendance in theoryand 75% of attendance in clinicals separately in each subject.(c) A candidate lacking the prescribed attendance and progress in any one of thesubjects, in theory and clinicals in the first appearance shall not be permittedfor admission to the entire examination.CONDONATION OF LACK OF ATTENDANCECondonation of shortage of attendance upto a maximum of 10% in the prescribedeligible attendance for admission to the University examination rests with the discretionary power of the Vice-Chancellor. For valid reasons, a candidate lacking in attendance may submit an application in the prescribed form and remit the stipulated fee 15 days prior to the commencement of the theory examination.The Head of theDepartment and Head of theInstitution should satisfy themselves on the reasonableness of the candidate's request whileforwarding the application with their endorsements to the Controller of Examination whowould obtain the Vice-Chancellor's approval for admission of the candidate to theUniversity examination.RE-ADMISSION AFTER BREAK OF STUDYCandidates having a break of study of five years and more from the date ofadmission and more than two spells of break will not be considered for readmission.

Candidates having break of study shall be considered for readmission provided theyare not subjected to any disciplinary action and no charges are pending or contemplatedagainst him/her.Readmission of candidates is subjected to the approval of the Vice-Chancellor.The candidates having a break upto five years shall apply for readmission to theRegistrar of this University. The candidate in such circumstance shall be granted exemptionin the subjects she/he has already passed.MARKS QUALIFYING FOR PASS IN THE EXAMINATIONSThe minimum pass marks in each subject (Theory & Practical separately) shall be 50% of the aggregate of Internal assessment & Annual examnation marks.CLASSIFICATION OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATESFirst class with distinction – 75% & above in aggregate provided the candidate passes theexamination in 1st attempt. First class – 60% & above in aggregate provided the candidate pass theexamination in 1st attempt.Pass – 50% of maximum marks in theory aggregate and 50% of maximum marks in clinical andViva-Voce aggregate.

DISSERTATIONEvery candidate pursing MPT degree course is required to carry out work on a selected researchproject under the guidance of a recognized postgraduate teacher. The results of such a work shall besubmitted in the form of dissertation.The dissertation is aimed to train a graduate student in research methods and techniques. It includesidentification of a problem, formulation of a hypothesis search and review of literature gettingacquainted with recent advances, designing of a research study, collection of data, critical analysis,and comparison of results and drawing conclusions.Every candidate shall submit to the Registrar of university in the prescribed proforma a synopsiscontaining particulars of proposed dissertation work within 6 months from the date ofcommencement of the course on or before the dates notified by the university. The synopsis shallbe sent through the proper channel. Such synopsis will be reviewed and the university will registerthe dissertation topicNo change in the dissertation topic or guide shall be made without prior approval of the university.Guide will be only a facilitator, advisor of the concept and hold responsible in correctly directingthe candidate in the methodology and not responsible for the outcome and results.The dissertation should be written under the following headings.1. Introduction2. Aims or objectives of study3. Review of literature4. Material and methods5. Results6. Discussion7. Conclusion8. References9. AppendicesThe written text of dissertation shall not be less than 50 pages and shall not exceed 100 pagesexcluding references, tables, questionnaires and other annexure. It should be neatly typed in doubleline spacing on one side of paper (A4 size, 8.27” x 11.69” and bound properly. Spiral bindingshould be avoided. The guide, head of the department and head of the institution shall certify the

dissertation.Four copies of dissertation thus prepared shall be submitted to the Registrar (Evaluation), threemonths before final examination on or before the dates notified by the university.The examiners appointed by the university shall value the dissertation. Approval of dissertationwork is an essential precondition for a candidate to appear in the university examination. Thedissertation shall be valued by the evaluator (Examiners) apart from the guide out of which one isexternal outside the university and one internal from other college of the same university. Any one evaluator acceptance other than the guide will be considered as a precondition for eligibility to takeup the examination.GUIDEThe academic qualification and teaching experience required for recognition by this university is asper the criteria for recognition of MPT teachers for guides.Criteria for recognition of MPT teacher / guide1. M.Sc. (PT) /MPT with five years teaching experience working on a full time position at arecognized institution.2. The age of guide / teacher shall not exceed 62 years.3. The guide student ratio should be 1:54. Relaxation for the criteria one and two no with standing above in view of acute shortage of teachers, the person having three years post MPT teaching experience working on a full time basis may be considered as P.G teachers. Similarly persons with maximum age of 63years may be considered for being guide and examiner in cases of acute shortage ofexaminers until further amendments by the university in this regard.Change of GuideIn the event of registered guide leaving the college for any reason or in the event of death ofguide, guide may be changed with prior permission from the university.

SCHEDULE OF EXAMINATIONThe University shall conduct examination for MPT course at the end of each year. Theexaminations shall be known as MPT Part-I Examination and MPT Part-II Examination.A student shall register for all the papers of a year when he/she appears for the first time.If a student fails in the first attempt of MPT Part-I Examination, the student may reappear for thesupplementary examination which will be conducted within 4-6 months of declaration of results.If a student fails in the first attempt of MPT Part-I Examination, or the supplementary examinationfor MPT Part-I thereof, he/she will continue the course with his/her batch. However he/she canregister and appear for MPT Part-II Examination only after clearing the MPT Part-I Examination. If

a student fails in the first attempt of MPT Part-II Examination, the student may reappear for thesupplementary examination which will be conducted within 4-6 months of declaration of results.If a student fails in theory and/or practical of MPT Part-I or MPT Part-II Examination, he/she has toappear for all the papers of each examination in both theory and practical respectively.

DissertationCourse code MPT 205Student will select a topic in his/her area of interest, in consultation with asupervisor/Guide qualified for the purpose as recommended by thecouncil/University, and carry out an independent dissertation, which will involvemaking research proposal, conduct of the work as per the documentedmethodology, statistical analysis, dissertation writing. The work will build on theknowledge acquired through study of research methodology and Biostatistics.Each candidate shall submit four type written copies of a dissertation and itshould be submitted well in advance before the date of written, oral, clinicaland practical examination, Acceptance of the dissertation by the examiners
