3. Design

Vertical, volute pump casing with in line suction and discharge flanges. Single stage, closed impeller with single or double suction depending on pump size (check table below). Equipped with renewable wear rings in pump casing and cover. Pump is for vertical installation.

6. Components

6.1 Shaft Seal

Single mechanical seal acc. to EN 12756 (DIN 24960) is supplied as standard.

6.2 Drive

As standard, surface cooled IP-55 IEC frame electric motor with standard construction IM 3011 (IM V1).

6.3 Bearings / Lubrication

The ILN series with single suction (see point 3) impeller incorporates a bearing bracket with two bearings greased for life.

The ILN series with double suction (see point 3) impeller incorporates one bearing greased for life and a friction bearing bush lubricated by pumped media.

The ILNC series (compact) has a bearing bracket with one ball bearing greased for life.

6.4 Coupling

The ILN series with single suction impeller (see point 3) incorporates a flexible coupling with a spacer.

The ILN series with double suction impeller (see point 3) incorporates a flexible coupling without spacer. For this case the option of coupling with spacer is available (option marked with D letter).

The ILNC series (compact design) includes a rigid coupling.

Coupling Guard: Metallic protections are supplied as standard.

The efficiency of a pump with a trimmed impeller is usually lower than that of a pump with the full impeller diameter. The trimming of the impeller will adapt the pump to a fixed duty point, leading to reduced energy consumption. The minimum

efficiency index (MEI) is based on the full impeller diameter.

The operation of this water pump with variable duty points may be more efficient and economic when controlled, for example, by the use of a variable speed drive that matches the pump duty to the system

As standard epoxy primer of 125 microns thickness and polyurethane finish coat of 60 microns. Final coat colour blue RAL 5010. Painted surface maximum temperature 120 ºC. Other coatings upon request.

16. Priming systems

16.1 Priming system by auxiliary pump VAC

The electrical control devices of the auxiliary priming pumps are not within the

scope of supply of KSB ITUR, except for the case of being expressly requested (see recommended electrical layout)

Operation

When starting up the unit, the auxiliary priming pump starts up and electrovalve

opens, beginning to extract the air existing in the suction pipe. After a period of time T1 the main pump starts up, with both operating simultaneously.

When the water reaches the main pump, the pressure increase is detected by the pressure switch, switching on a second timer, which switches off the auxiliary priming pump and the electrovalve after a period of time T2

In case a depriming happens in the facility, the pressure switch detects the pressure drop and starts up the auxiliary priming pump (the main pump remains in operation).

The start-up time (T1) of main pump depends on the volume of air to be discharged. During priming tests it must be adjusted experimentally to the minimum.

T2 shutdown time depends on any instability which may come about during start-up

The VAC auxiliary pump is not designed for continuous pumping of water without air. That is

why if T2 time is excessive, the motor of the auxiliary pump may be overheated. Thus adjust T2 to a few seconds (≈ 5 sec.) or to star-delta start-up time. In any case, the total time that the auxiliary pump works only with water shall not exceed 15 sec.

Installation

The discharge of the auxiliary pump (mark 5) should not be closed or impeded.

When the pumping liquid is water, the maximum installation height on the lowest level of the liquid must not exceed 6 m, minus the dynamic losses of the suction system.

Start-up

Bear in mind the following points when starting up:

- Check all the connections and the pipes to ensure seal tightness.

- Prime the auxiliary pump, if it is first start-up

- Check all the electrical connections.

T2 ejector shutdown time depends on any instability which may come about during start-up and can be taken a value between 10 and 30 seconds.

Installation
