Type and image: building a successful relationship

Type and image each have their own meaning and their own shape.

Combining them effectively can reinforce an idea, and can make asuccessful composition.

As with Project 1, use your edges!

Q: Image Use

Can we use images from the internet, or is that plagiarizing?

Is it better to take our own images?

Q: Image Manipulation

Is it OK to “mess around” with a photo (alter contrast, saturation, etc.)?

Are filters and effects in Photoshopfair game for this project?

Q: Non-Photo Images

Is it OK to draw?

Is it OK to combine photos and drawings or shapes together?

Is it OK to cut/paste flat materials (colored paper, etc) onto our layouts?

Q: Type Only

Is it OK to just use type? Or is that boring?

Q: Simple vs. Complex

When is a design too simple/too busy?

Is simple “unambitious”?

Q: Technical

Do I have to use Illustrator?

Can I do the whole thing in Photoshop?

Do I have to use both Photoshop and Illustrator?

Q: Critique

Should we have 3 totally different ideas?

Will I have the chance to “explain” my ideas?

Will we present our image research files as well as our cover designs?

Other questions?
