Types of Sports MountsThere are two types of sports mounts: the traditional sports mount

and the newer digital mounts. Both are used to enhance the

pictures and help the photographer justify their pricing.

Traditional mounts hold dual prints. Standard size traditional

sports mounts are 7x5/3 ½ x5-4x5, 7x5/5x7, and 10x8/5x7.

Larger traditional sports mounts are used by photographers to

increase the overall profitability of a package.

Digital mounts add the finishing touch to a graphically enhanced

8x10 or 10x13 digital memory mate.

Digital mounts help the photographer justify the increased cost of

a digital memory mate.

Envelopes and bags are tools used to organize and ease the

delivery of sports packages for the league management and

coaches.

‘soccer mom’. Why are soccer moms gaining a foothold in

the sports photography industry? Here are some common

characteristics of what soccer moms are doing.

Contrary to popular belief, soccer moms do not work for

free. In most cases, soccer mom’s prices are competitive

with the local studios.

Soccer moms are attuned to packaging and

a league. This isn’t how the studio ‘packages’ their pictures this is the actual ‘delivery’ of the

finished product.

Sports leagues are run by volunteers that feel pictures are a ‘necessary evil’. As the

photographer, you need to make picture delivery as simple and painless as possible.

Each individual team should have their own box with each child’s order bagged

in the hey-day of photography the

photographer’s most effective advertising tool

was previews. previews with referrals

accounted for 80% of a studios advertising.

while admiring the subject, a prospective

customer also views the photographer’s work.

this is especially true of senior photography.

Why a Studio Should UsePreviews…• customer’s love previews!

• in a non-scientific study it was found thatstudios whose businesses are holding upthe best still use previews.

• Studios that eliminated previews andprojected their images had the biggestorders per client but had fewer newcustomers every year. Studios that projecttheir images also need an exceptional sales staff.

• Studios that web proof were very unhappy with theirresults.

• Soccer moms use previews to showcase their work.

Proper Ways to Show Previews1. previews need to be presented on a professional level.

previews should always be printed on photographicpaper. low quality previews can harm a studios image.

2. previews should never be smaller than 4x5. Smallerimages are difficult for a customer to view.

3. package your previews properly. handing a customer astack of previews rubber banded together ruins yourprofessional image. always present your previews inprofessional photo packaging products branded withyour studio logo. here are a few products ideal forshowing off previews:

5. narrow down the selection of previews. remember it isquality not quantity. always edit your previews. Onlyshow your best work to customers. let the size of thepackage determine how many previews are presented toyour customer.

What Previews Do For Your Studio1. previews create the wOw factor. the photographic

industry is a vanity industry. customers want theirphotographs to make them look better than they reallydo. Successful studios capitalize on this concept. yourcustomers want to experience the wOw factor whenshowing off their previews. Simply put – your customerwants to have their ego stroked.

2. your work will be seen by an unlimited number ofpotential customers.

3. if the customer purchases the same folio they got theirpreviews in, they would receive two additional freepreviews. this costs the photographer approximately.60 cents.

example: a customer can purchase one preview for$10.00 or 12 for $100.00. the average cost for a studioto print a preview is between .20 to .30 cents. if a studiosells just one preview this is a profit of $9.70. the cost ofpreviews are covered by the sitting fee.

A Word About Copyright Laws…The Copyright Act protects photographers by giving the author of the photograph the exclusive right to reproduceyour photographs. This includes the right to control the making of copies. It is illegal to copy or scan for reproductivepurposes any photographs without written permission, and violators of the Federal Law will be subject to its fullcriminal penalties. In addition, when a copy is made, it is always of a poorer quality than the original. When you handout cheap copies of our products, you damage our reputation, and deprive this company of its livelihood. We haveinvested in you our time and our talent.

3. after your customer purchases a package they will receive low resolution images. these images

can be used to post their images on their mySpace™ or facebook™ accounts.

4. hand crimp each of your previews with a copyright seal. this seal states that the preview is

copyright protected while taking nothing away from the print.

5. enclose a letter with their

previews stating that the

pictures are copyright

protected. this makes your

customers aware that copying

of prints is unethical. Below is

When Spraying Prints, Always Apply Light Coats

Spray several light coats when applyingwater-mat from aerosol cans or spray guns.if necessary, use a hair dryer to speed up thedrying process. if heavily applied, the materialwill run and look blotchy on your prints.
