How to apply
AGEMinimum 18 years of age when entering the Swiss Professional Degree*, 17 for the SSTH Young Talent Traineeship.
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS (one of the following) – Final secondary school certificate/high school diploma in own country
– Professional diploma (apprentice certificate)
Should you be in the final year of secondary or high school and wish to apply, evaluation will be based on pre-dicted grades and/or results from previous years. You can submit the results of your final exams and diploma certificates later, but always before the start of your studies at SSTH.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS (one of the following) – IELTS academic module, with a minimum score of 5.5 – Cambridge Advanced Examination, with a C minimum
– TOEFL, with a minimum score of 87 (iBT) – First Certificate Examination, with a score of A only
Alternatively you can submit evidence that English was the main medium of instruction during your last three years of secondary/high school studies.
HOSPITALITY WORK REQUIREMENTSApplicants without hospitality industry work experience are required to gain 24 months total work experience before the final diploma examinations. During the Swiss Professional Degree*, two 6-month internships are inte-grated into the program, and may be extended to allow for missing work experience. SSTH Applicants with some hospitality work experience are given credit towards the total time required for completing the Swiss Professional Degree* of up to one year (work certificates required). SSTH recommends having at least 6 months’ work experi- ence before starting the Swiss Professional Degree*, and offers to place applicants in Switzerland or internatio-nally through our SSTH Young Talent Traineeship.

1. Student Business ProjectYou will be part of a team providing a consulting service to an external client. The tasks assigned by our clients will be varied, ranging from market studies to process audits to the creation of new catering concepts.
2. ThesisYour task will be to find a solution to an industry-specific problem using qualitative and/or quantita-tive research methods. You will be supervised by an experienced faculty member, who will coach you in the methods needed to successfully complete your project.

SSTH Young Talent Traineeship-On-CampusBe immersed in the world of Hospitality as you join a supportive training environment on the SSTH Campus
CUISINE PRACTICEYou will cook meals for our students and staff while learning the basics of culinary arts from our team of chefs who will teach you how to recognize excellent products and how to prepare them to best reveal their qualities. You will learn basic cutting and preparation methods, how to use knives and kitchen equipment properly, and how to work safely in a kitchen.
SERVICE PRACTICEThrough working in our restaurant under the supervisi-on of senior students and guidance of our experienced lecturers, you will learn the art of serving guests. Table setting for various restaurant set-ups, napkin folding, banquet decoration, different service techniques and more will best prepare you for your first internship.
HOUSEKEEPING PRACTICEYou will gain a basic knowledge of housekeeping es-sentials and learn about housekeeping supplies and their proper use. Under the supervision of our expe-rienced staff, you will practice modern cleaning which fulfill the highest hygienic standards in the public areas of the School Hotel and in the restaurants. You will also learn proper handling of equipment, textiles and linens in the laundry.
FIELD TRIPSYou will visit local producers of vegetables, wines, cho-colate or cheese and take part in behind-the-scenes tours of hotels, restaurants or spas, gaining a solid understanding of how suppliers and hospitality pro-fessionals work.

CUISINE PRACTICEPrepare food in a variety of styles together with a team of industry professionals. Develop and practice foundational culinary techniques. Start by learning the basics of safety and sanitation, and move into more detailed knowledge and skills training. Knowledge and understanding of food preparation will help you immensely throughout the rest of your career.
SERVICE PRACTICEWork in different Food and Beverage outlets throug-hout the hotel. Discover the unique service style of restaurants, bars and banquets. Practice the roles and functions of a service professional with the guidance of the associates and mentors you have around you. Learn service essentials like equipment preparation, guest relations, service techniques and side work. Feel the satisfaction that genuine customer service can provide.
HOUSEKEEPING PRACTICEPractice and understand the critical role that house-keeping plays in keeping the ‘heart of the house’ alive. Learn about the machines, equipment and supplies that are utilized in the housekeeping department. Learn about the hygienic and cleanliness standards of industry leaders and how to maintain a pristine facility. Witness the vital collaboration between the Front Office and Housekeeping, a great example of team-work. Understand the importance of first impressions and how appearance communicates the image of a brand.
GUIDANCE AND SUPPORTEven though you are far away from school and Swit-zerland, you can face challenges head on with the support of a strong and capable team of professionals. Your local supervisor will support you with any hurdles, but you can also rely on SSTH for help and guidance. Identify problems and develop solutions in a modern and real job environment.
