Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness
and rivers in the desert. - Isaiah 43
When God freed the Israelites from slavery; he did a new thing. When God led the way through the wilderness; he did a new thing. When God provided rivers in the desert; he did a new thing. When Peter preached salvation of the Gentiles; God did a new thing. Throughout the life of the church we are witnesses to a God that reshapes and remakes the lives, and communities of His people. God is always doing new and wondrous things. When I was appointed here in 2016, Tarkio/Westboro had their first female pastor. God had done a new thing. In 2017, we began a joint Lenten service with Fairfax and Rock Port. God did a new thing. Last year, for the first time the youth experienced Champions 4 Christ in Branson. God done a new thing. God calls us to trust that he is leading us.
Once again, God is making a new way. Over the last few years, our church has had a vision to reach the youth in our community. We have been praying to find ways to reach out and engage them. Our conversations have been about finding a way to focus on the assets of our communities and work in collaboration within our communities to bring more ministries to our rural area. And God has made a way. Now, we are excited to say that in partnership with Fairfax and Rock Port UMC’s we are bringing Eagle Lake mobile camp to Atchison County.
So, what is mobile camp? A dynamic way of reaching youth ages 6-12. This is an opportunity to bring a high energy level day camp experience to our own backyard, at the cost of $75.00 per child. There will be a huge waterslide, 35 ft rock wall, bungee rope, Ga-Ga-ball, Archery and many other activities. They transform lives through one-on-one interaction with trained camp counselors, fun and engaging learning times, dance parties and dynamic speakers. Working with the No Hunger Summer Program we will be providing lunch for all the campers.
So, why would we want to be a part of this new thing? To transform lives, teach our youth about Jesus or continue to teach our

youth about Jesus. It will bring the communities together, build character, boost confidence, and strengthen bonds. They will make new friends since this is all of Atchison County and we will continue to build bonds between our towns through the collaboration of rural communities.
Where is it at? In order to make sure that mobile camp comes to every community, we cast lots just like they did in biblical times when making a big decision. We posted it live on Facebook for anyone interested in watching. Tarkio UMC will host it this year. Then, Rock Port UMC next year and Fairfax UMC for the third year. It is our hope, with plenty of support, to make this an opportunity for years to come.
What is our part? To be in prayer for the camp staff, the kids, and the volunteers that are dedicating their time and effort. Consider being a volunteer yourself. Be sure to INVITE, INVITE, INVITE. Our goal is to have 150 kids involved to maximize the spiritual impact on Atchison County and that is only possible if we INVITE, INVITE, INVITE. Lastly, if you have a youth between the ages of 6-12, talk to them about this opportunity and register today at eaglelakecamps.com/AtchisonCounty
It is up to us to follow Gods lead so that He can show us just what this new thing can do, how lives will be shaped, and bonds will be made. So, behold friends God is doing a new thing in our midst. - Pastor Julie
