First Steps…
Write a Bio Make it interesting and write about who you are, what you do and
maybe why people should follow you.
Post a Picture Make it a picture that is interesting enough to make people want to
follow you. It doesn’t have to be personal… just interesting.
Connect If no one is following you, then no one is reading your tweets, then what’s
the point?
Tweet Are you reading an interesting article? Share it! Cool video? Link to it! A
funny picture? Tweet it!
Navigating Twitter…
Reply (@)
– If you are using Twitter on the Web and you want to reply to someone, simply type @ and then their name, then type the reply. The Tweet will be public and displayed on the Twitter feed.
DM (D)
– Want to send a private Tweet? Direct messages are not viewed on the Twitter feed.
Retweet (RT)
– This is like forwarding an email and giving the original person credit for it. If someone tweets something that interests you and you feel it would interest your readers, you retweet it for your readers.
Hashtag (#)
– Enable easy categorization of tweets for effective future searching.
Campaign Hashtag (#)
– Use #keywords when commenting about your company or brand or industry
Making the Most of Twitter…
Twitter Programs You can Tweet, DM, RT, shorten a URL, and share a
picture without ever leaving your desktop. The most popular programs are
TweetDeck, Hootsuite and Twirl.
Phone Applications On the go? There are several applications available
that make Tweeting from your phone a breeze.
Who Do I Follow? Use a directory like Twellow or WeFollow to search for
people that interest you. Seek out people with similar interests or industries.
Upload Photos Have photos you want to share? There are several
applications that make that a snap. Twitpic is my fav.
URL Shorteners Don’t waste precious characters on long URLs. Use a
shortener like bit.ly and tinyurl to make your links manageable. You can
also track your clicks on bit.ly
Twitter Outreach…
Monitor and analyze conversations
What are people saying about your business or industry? Is it good or bad? Do they want to know more?
Post information about your brand, business, industry?
Share links, data, events and resources with your followers.
Don’t forget to follow local citizens, local elected officials, related businesses and industry leaders – they will follow you back
