As Jesus con nued His journey to Jerusalem, He traveled through Samaria and Galilee. As He was entering a village, ten lepers met Him. They stood at a distance from Him and raised

their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!” And when He saw them, He said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” As they were going they were cleansed. And one of them, realizing he

had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice; and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked Him. He was a Samaritan. Jesus said in reply, “Ten were cleansed, were they not? Where are the other nine? Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?”

Then He said to him, “Stand up and go; your faith has saved you.”

Drodzy Parafianie i Przyjaciele, Ewangelia dzisiejsza ukazuje nam odwiecz-ny problem braku wdzięczności za łaski i braku zrozumienia dla spraw nadprzyrodzonych. Przy-kład dziesięciu uzdrowionych, z których tylko jeden dziękuje za ten dar, pokazuje, jak łatwo po otrzymaniu tak wielkiego daru przejść do porząd-ku dziennego. Pamiętajmy, że uzdrowienie bądź

pomyślność, zdrowie czy powodzenie w życiu nie są sa-moistne, lecz po części zależą od nas samych, od naszej wiary, gdyż Bóg wysłuchuje naszych próśb na miarę uf-ności, jaką w Nim pokładamy. W słowach dzisiejszej Liturgii przeplatają się ze sobą łaska, wdzięczność, wiara i życie z wiary. Nie po raz pierwszy słyszymy, że cuda i znaki, które Pan Jezus czy-nił, wiązały się z wiarą: gdy „widział wiarę”, dokonywał cudu. Przywołajmy kilka cytatów potwierdzających to spostrzeżenie; „Nie bój się, wierz tylko!” (Mk 5,36), „Wszystko jest możliwe dla tego, kto wierzy” (Mk 9,23), „Córko, twoja wiara cię ocaliła” (Łk 8,48), podobnie jak i dzisiejsze zawołanie: „Wstań, idź, twoja wiara cię uzdro-wiła”(Łk 17,19). Z kolei św. Paweł daje nam odpowiedź, jak rozu-mieć i jak postrzegać to, co nas spotyka. W Liście do Ty-moteusza tłumaczy nie tylko Tymoteuszowi, ale zara-zem i nam, jak powinniśmy rozumieć nasze życie. Jedno-cześnie mówi, jak mamy postępować, by doczekać się spełnienia obietnic naszej wiary. „Jeśli trwamy w cierpli-wości, wespół z Nim też królować będziemy. Jeśli się będziemy Go zapierali, to i On nas się zaprze. Jeśli my odmawiamy wierności, On wiary dochowuje, bo nie mo-że się zaprzeć siebie samego.” (2 Tm 2,12-13). Bóg każdego dnia obsypuje nas łaskami. Przez ko-goś uśmiecha się do nas, aby nas wzmocnić, przez kogoś ratuje nasze zdrowie, abyśmy mogli jeszcze coś dobrego uczynić. Wielu zachwyca się pięknem przyrody, potęgą morza i gór, cudami natury, ale nie widzi Stwórcy. To wszystko jest darem dobrego Boga dla nas. Czy mamy tę świadomość, że cokolwiek dobrego otrzymujemy – daje nam to sam Pan Bóg? Czy dostrzegamy nie tylko dar, ale i Dawcę? To już za tydzień spotykamy się z wieloma z wami na Mszy św. o godz. 12:30 po południu, aby pod prze-wodnictwem byłego proboszcza a obecnie Ordynariusza Diecezji Springfield, Jego Ekscelencji Biskupa Tomasza Paprockiego celebrować uroczystość 100-lecia naszej parafii. Pamiętajcie, że Msze święte o godz. 12: 00 w południe i 1: 30 po południu zostały odwołane. Bankiet w sali bankietowej „Chateau Ritz”, będzie okazją do bliż-szego i bardziej osobistego spotkania byłych i obecnych parafian i przyjaciół parafii. Szczęść Boże!

Dear Parishioners and Friends, Today's Gospel shows us the eternal problem of the lack of gratitude for grace and the lack of understanding of supernatural events. The example of the ten lepers healed, of which only one returned to give thanks for this gift, shows how easy it is after receiving so great a gift to go back to our daily agenda. We must remember that the process of healing or the state of well-being, health or success in life are not spontaneous, in part because they depend on our work, but mainly because God hears our prayers, as we maintain our faith and trust which we place in Him. In the Liturgy of the Word, grace intertwines with gratitude, faith, and a life of faith. This is not the first time we hear that miracles and signs which Jesus per-formed are connected with faith: when "He saw faith", He made a miracle. Here are a few quotes supporting this observation: "Don't be afraid, just have faith!" (Mk 5, 36), "Everything is possible for one who has faith" (Mk 9, 23), "Daughter, your faith has saved you" (Łk 8, 48), as well as today's message: "Stand up and go forth, your faith has saved you" (Łk 17 19). In turn, Saint Paul gives us the answer, how to un-derstand and how to see what befalls us. In a letter to Timothy, he explains not only to Timothy, but to all of us how we should understand our lives. He tells us how should we proceed to look forward to the promises of our faith. "(…) if we persevere we shall also reign with Him. But if we deny Him he will deny us. If we are un-faithful he remains faithful, for He cannot deny him-self.” (2 Tim 2:12-13) God every day gives us graces. Through someone He smiles at us, strengthens us, through someone He saves our health, so we can continue to do something good. Many of us delight in the beauty of nature, the power of the sea and the mountains, the wonders of nature, but cannot see the Creator. All of them are gifts from our good God. Do we have this awareness that whatever good we get - it is the gift from the Lord God? Do we see not only a gift, but also the Giver? Next week we will all meet at 12:30pm under the leadership of our former pastor and currently Bishop of the Diocese of Springfield, his Excellency Bishop Thomas Paprocki, to celebrate the 100-year Anniversary of our parish. Remember that the masses at 12:00 noon and 1:30pm were canceled. Our celebration in the banquet hall "Chateau Ritz" will provide an opportunity for a clos-er and more personal encounter of former and current parishioners and friends of the parish. God Bless You!

REGISTRATION FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION The goal of the R.E.P. is to provide religious and liturgical education; develop faith concepts and moral formation; teach prayer to the children. Our program assists the children in their preparation to receive the Sacraments of Eu-

charist (2nd grade) and Confirmation (8th grade). The children are taught by the dedicated catechists. Classes for grades K - 8 meet on Monday evenings from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.

There are several great prayers to pray every day. Like the Our Father, the Hail Mary, the Glory Be. Or like the Guardian Angel Prayer, the Angelus, Grace. Years ago I heard of another prayer that someone favored, but if it’s on the official Catholic prayer docket, I missed it. At the same me, I’ve repeated it several mes since. Call it the Thank You/Help Me prayer. x7. As in, “Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you/ Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me.” Or maybe it’s “Help me, Help me…/ Thank you, Thank you...” I pre-fer the former over the la er, but either one works for me and is always at the ready.

This prayer comes to mind today as I consider the read-ings. We know from the Second Book of Kings that Naaman, a military commander of Aram, is cured of leprosy in drama c fashion. Per 2 Kings 5:14-17, “Naaman went down and plunged into the Jordan seven mes at the word of Elisha, the man of God. His flesh became again like the flesh of a li le child, and he was clean of his leprosy.” Naaman returns to Elisha in gra tude (Help me, Help me…/Thank you, Thank you…), and even wants to give Elisha a gi . But the prophet refuses, promp ng Naaman to ask for two mule-loads of dirt from Israel to take back to Aram so that he might at least worship God on God’s home turf.

Yet all of this has an inauspicious start. From the en re story, (beginning with 2 Kings 5:1-13) we learn that Naaman orig-inally balks at the idea of the Jordan cure. First, actually, he wants Elisha to heal him in the moment. And, in person. Instead, Elisha just sends Naaman a message: “Go and wash seven mes in the Jordan, and your flesh will heal…” This angers Naaman. And besides not ge ng an instant cure…well…the Jordan? “Are not the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar, be er than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be cleansed?” Sheeesh, Naaman! His servants finally convince him, though, so to the Jordan--and healing--he goes.

The Help me, Help me…/ Thank you, Thank you… prayer comes into play in the Gospel as well. This familiar story told only by Luke tells of the cleansing of the ten lepers who come to Jesus seeking a cure. Technically, they shout their request from a dis-tance: “Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!” Jesus responds simply: “Go show yourselves to the priests.” Perhaps like Naaman--who wanted Elisha to invoke God, move his hand over the leprosy, and effect a miraculous cure right there on the spot--the ten are expec ng something more extraordinary. If so, though, they don’t show it, going at once to the priests and being cleansed enroute. Since only the Samaritan of the ten returns in gra tude, perhaps the prayer becomes “Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me, Help me/ Thank you.” S ll, I give the other nine props for their immediate obedience to Christ’s command. Of course, my bigger props go to the Samaritan. Somewhere in Scripture we learn that God loves a cheerful giver. And today, certainly, a grateful receiver. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you…

Discernment Retreat

October 21-23, 2016 Dominican Sisters, Immaculate Conception Province, in Justice, IL will host a Dis-cernment Retreat for single catholic women ages 17-35. The retreat will discuss the issue of God’s call in Christian life (everybody’s got one!) as well as how to find out (discern) one’s individual vocation. Z okazji Roku Miłosierdzia i 100-lecia naszej parafii, założyliśmy grupę Miłosierdzia Bożego, tzw. Koła Koronkowe. Zapraszamy wszystkich chętnych do włączenia się w tę modlitwę! Chrzty w języku angielskim są w pierwszą i trzecią niedzielę, a w języku polskim w drugą i czwartą niedzielę każdego miesiąca. Rodzice są zobowiązani do wzięcia udziału w spotkaniu przygotowującym do tego sakramentu przed planowaną datą chrztu dziecka. Prosimy o skontakto-wanie się z biurem parafialnym, aby zgłosić dziecko do chrztu. Sakrament Małżeństwa… Archidiecezja Chicago zaleca, aby osoby, które planują zawarcie sakramentu małżeństwa zgłosiły się do biura para-fialnego co najmniej cztery miesiące przed datą ślubu. Chcielibyśmy i usil-nie zalecamy, aby w naszej parafii okres przygotowania trwać sześć mie-sięcy. Prosimy, abyście najpierw ustalili termin w kościele, a następnie w innych miejscach.
